i'm assuming a few of these selection or non-selections are to help us with the 5 day turn around. Unless we are super dominant and clinical, I imagine another raft of changes for GWS. I think the pack fixture might mean some players holding on to spots or getting a run to manage fitness.

I think you’re on to it
The 5 day turnaround has them spooked

Very short HB, only 2 talls back might be a problem, I expect Cordy in
Good to see Lipinski selected
Hopefully we can do well in the midfield, around ground stoppages, take some overhead marks and eliminate mismatches

We need to temper expectations on Libbas output for the remainder of his career.

He wont get back to the level he was playing at pre knees. This is why i just dont get why we arent consistently playing McLean. Surely other teams will be sniffing.

If they offer something good I'm up for that. Norf comes to mind as a team who could use him.
Carlton have basically no legitimate mid prospects after Cripps and Walsh. They should be the ones looking for a player the next tier below like McLean. He's not an outright superstar, but he's a very good starting midfielder and would thrive at Carlton

Adelaide and Essendon seem like they could do with a good midfielder too.

McLean, tap tap tap, hooking...you couldn't consign him to Carlton.

Do we have the forward line dynamics right.
Enough speed to go with the marking prowess of the 2 talls and 4 mediums.at medium pace.Even if Richards had a bad game last year. His speed worried teams.
Speed dynamic is important IMO.
That's why I am a fan of Vandermeer's selection kid has some serious jets. JJ off the HB Line and hopefully Vandermeer on the Wing some link up plays could be awesome to watch

That’s why I can see Cavarra keeping his spot.

Another little update :
I have spoken to my friend and he seems not so confident as he usually is! He feels the players have a problem of getting themselves up for games with clubs outside the top teams.
If the round 1 performance was our version of being 'up' against a top side like Collingwood, I hate to see how we'll look this week

Something that really upsets me I will mention briefly- I have an another impeccable source that is across the Libba situation. Libba’s knee is not good as I have mentioned before and will be on a modified program for the rest of his career. Unfortunately Libba’s private life has taken another downward turn! That’s all I would like to say. I only mention this because heaps of us want to see the old Libba back!

Look I appreciate the rest of your post (assuming some/all of it is true), but is it really necessary to post this on an online forum? That could mean anything, or nothing. Plus his private life is his business. If he is struggling outside of footy, I wish him well, but I really dislike this sort of commentary.

I was listening to SEN yesterday and they were chatting to Craig Jennings, football strategist with one of the better footballing brains going around. He spoke about the Broadway effect that has an impact on how teams perform week in week out.
The theory is that some teams are better suited to the big occasion and playing in front of bigger crowds (On Broadway) and others that can perform when there’s not as much outside noise, without the bigger crowds and without the big occasion. (Off Broadway).
The better teams are able to do both.
Interesting theory which explains something that I and others brought up a few weeks ago.
The Dogs, in recent years, have been the type of team that thrives playing On Broadway. Big crowds, big occasion, plenty of outside noise/encouragement.
But when we need to build the enthusiasm from within we can fail on the field.
I think we have seen that from some of the Rd1 matches with the less experienced, less drilled teams struggling a little.
It doesn’t completely excuse our performances but I can definitely see that as having an effect with us and may even explain some of our losses against the lower ranked teams in the last year or two.
Hopfully we’ve grown from that Rd1 loss and with a bit more experience, growth and becoming a better drilled teams we can start handling games being played Off Broadway, as well as On it.
