I think our team would make a lot more sense with Trengove or Young in the team. Thought Trengove was quite reliable last year despite some real dodgy foot skills, Young showed really good signs in the last month.

Players have struggled as much as Gardner has early in their career and turned out to be pretty good players. Just don’t see it happening with him but I hope he plays a corker. Must be showing something in training that he hasn’t brought to the table so far. Don’t watch enough VFL to know how he went there.

I’m content with the side we picked though. Bit risky and I don’t trust all the players but think there is enough guys that show something. Hope Richards plays off half back again, hope Vandermeer plays well. I like what I’ve read with him and we need more players with leg speed to bring the pressure.

Yeah I’m actually really keen to watch Sunday’s game. Good on Vandermeer- hope he has a crack. Bit of pace with him and Richards both running around!

I actually like the injection of speed and a bit more grunt, but there are a couple of guys that are questionable AFL standard.

Gardiner is a massive question mark but the MC must see something that the rest of us are yet to see.

Gowers is a bustling and aggressive player but do not think he is AFL standard.

Jong has his critics, but I like his speed, line breaking toughness and strong hands so can forgive his semi regular poor decision making and turnovers.

Having said that, if we are to be a legitimate 4 - 8 side we should comfortably have this saints team covered.

Gardner selected over Cordy is a disgrace. If Cordy is injured, then say so, if not he should have more than enough credits in the bank to be selected above someone who should have a large negative sign in front of his credit balance. In fact Gardner's selection is just inexplicable, and highlights our main problem;
"Match performances do not equate with selection decisions."

The continued exclusion of proven performers like McLean and Dickson is also a problem, particularly in a side that is sadly lacking in settled seasoned performers.
I still hold out some hope for a win (not sure why) but this is a long way from the best side we should be able to field, and if we lose it will be another tough pill to swallow.

Gardner getting another game reminds me of his second game after his debut. An alright first game against a tough opponent, then a break, then a game against an easier opponent. Last time it was followed up by a awful effort. If he can avoid that we can at least say he's making some inroads.

Curious to see who on that bench plays where. Suckling almost certainty plays defence which is good. Jong probably wing. Expected Vandermeer to play wing/forward but that's how we usually use Richards. Somehow doubt we're changing Richards' role at this point when we've avoided it for so long. We named Smith and Lipinski on the wings but surely we need them inside.

Never been Cordy's biggest fan but he and Wood are good zone defenders. Keath is as well, but I think Crozier and Williams will need to take a step up if this is going to work. If it doesn't I hope we're less hesitant than last round and try swinging Naughton back.

Williams having to play more defensive is a very real possibility and it worries me because I think that is the biggest thing that stunted his development.
Offers alot more when he has more freedom and doesn't have to focus on a specific defender.
