No love for Hendo? Surely now that Thommo is being rested we will need more experienced players.

A reunion of Mackay and Hendo?

If CEY doesn't come in for Thommo this week he should rightfully feel very disappointed.
At best he's 4th in line for a call-up. Those ahead of him are Walker, Henderson and Wigg. Could happen, if they want to give Walker & Henderson another week off to be completely over their injuries, and don't want to debut 2x players in the same game (O'Brien has already been announced).

I'd like to see him spend more time around stoppages. Keeps him in the play and he's very creative in tight with his hands. He's also one of the very, very few who can get himself through traffic which results in getting clean ball outside the pressure area without the need to go backwards. But we've got players who we can't bring ourselves to remove from that area and that can't be played anywhere else. We're a team in limbo at the moment, effectively waiting out the year.
I agree but then we start playing guys like Mackay on the wing which weakens us terribly

We need more guys capable of playing outside ( wigg / Milera) to push for games ASAP or bring in guys they can so we can get Atkins more inside as he's a nice little point of difference in there

Do you think Wigg is ahead of CEY for the sole purpose he was the emergency last week?

He would be ahead though, he's travelled with the team a few weeks as well as being held back last week. Line ball though, but I reckon they have marked Cam's card already.

CEY'S game on the weekend surely makes the decision harder, he destroyed Port.

Will be very interesting to see which way they go ...

Sauce injured - ROB in, great to see ROB get his chance to show what he has learned.
Thommo rested - CEY / Wigg / Grigg in?
Tex needs another week?
Seedsman came in and performed last week, Mackay is rated by the selectors - but Dmac is surely the first out ahead of Seeds.

So if no Tex ... Sauce, Thommo for ROB, one of the mids.
If Tex comes up ... Sauce, Thommo for ROB, Tex? Surely not? I reckon they will drop Mackay and bring in one of the mids along with Tex and ROB.

And the fact that they've been talking him up. CEY... not so much.

** Note that this is how I think the selectors see them. Not a discussion of their actual merits as players.

I don't think we'll play two debutants this week, regardless of the opposition. We already have 1 debutant confirmed.

That would mean Harry has missed 2 weeks. We spoke last year about how Lyons/Grigg and Mrouch were poorly managed with the sub but this would be even worse.

That is definitely a consideration. They played two debutants in R1 (Milera & McGovern), and the Brisbane game is a perfect opportunity to do it again. Whether they will or not is the big question.

There's a difference between round 1 and round 20. We can't just go crazy and make 5 changes or something, team chemistry is vital going into finals. I know CEY hasn't played this year but he's played plenty of games with the group overall.

To be fair to Mackay he's played worse games before without being dropped so it's not surprising he's expecting to play.:p
ZERO chance Mackay will be dropped .....don't confuse what people want & what will happen

Watched the game again and if anyone couldn't see Mackays important role in scoring chains and link in plays .... They simply don't know footy - FACT !

It was a joke Wayne, wasn't meant to be taken seriously or to start another discussion on his merits.;)

I haven't suggested that we're going to "go crazy and make 5 changes". If you're implying that I have, then you're building a strawman, and you lose the argument immediately. We know they're making at least 2, and it's highly unlikely that they'll make more than 3.

Assuming Walker & Hendo fail their fitness test, then it comes down to a choice between Wigg & CEY.

In Wigg's favour is that he's been talked up by the coaches & selectors in recent weeks, and we know they're looking for an excuse to play him. Resting Thompson could provide that excuse. Unlike CEY, he can kick the ball reliably - he has excellent foot skills. He's in good form, and has a higher ceiling than CEY, so it makes sense to select him from a player development perspective.

In CEY's favour is that he's in the form of his life. He's played a handful of senior games (12 in total - none under Pyke's coaching) - not enough for this to be a decisive advantage over Wigg. If he's going to have any opportunity this year, then the Brisbane game is going to be it.

I think there are a lot more (and better) reasons for selecting Wigg, and I think that's what the selectors will choose to do.
