Pyke already said wigg CEY or Grigg to replace thommo
Thommo spent much of last week on a wing, so imo we need another outside player for balance. Wigg would be my pick.

Howdy fellas. New to the forum.

Just posting something that perked my attention today.

So my wife told me last night there were a couple of Adelaide players visiting the kids at the school she works at today. Turns out it was Dmac and B Crouch. One of her staff is a member and had asked Dmac if he was playing this weekend and my wife reckons he was 110% convinced he would be getting a game. So I'm thinking he was either being coy about it or he actually knows he's getting a game. I would've thought that a player in Dmac's current form would have been sweating on selection?

Ring the AFL, there's rules about divulging selection information prior to the official team announcements. I'm not sure David has any reason to sweat on selection. He's got the encumbency advantage over Hendo, so given Thommo's rest, Dmac is pretty safe. There's zero chance that either Wigg or CEY would replace Thommo AND Hendo replace Mackay.

I think what Mackay meant was he wasnt injured from Parish's bump.

But it took a week to get over the Sherrin's shirt front. Was terrible the following week. Wonder if the Sherrin got games for that savage front on attack. That kind of aggression is what makes mothers think twice about letting little Johnny play Aussie Rules.

I haven't suggested that we're going to "go crazy and make 5 changes". If you're implying that I have, then you're building a strawman, and you lose the argument immediately. We know they're making at least 2, and it's highly unlikely that they'll make more than 3.

Assuming Walker & Hendo fail their fitness test, then it comes down to a choice between Wigg & CEY.

In Wigg's favour is that he's been talked up by the coaches & selectors in recent weeks, and we know they're looking for an excuse to play him. Resting Thompson could provide that excuse. Unlike CEY, he can kick the ball reliably - he has excellent foot skills. He's in good form, and has a higher ceiling than CEY, so it makes sense to select him from a player development perspective.

In CEY's favour is that he's in the form of his life. He's played a handful of senior games (12 in total - none under Pyke's coaching) - not enough for this to be a decisive advantage over Wigg. If he's going to have any opportunity this year, then the Brisbane game is going to be it.

I think there are a lot more (and better) reasons for selecting Wigg, and I think that's what the selectors will choose to do.
I wasn't implying you were suggesting we make 5 changes, but you did say playing 2 debutants this week is a possibility for the selectors, something I don't think should happen. I just don't think we should make more than 3 changes. ROB comes in along with Tex (if fit) so we should only be making 1 more change (CEY for Mackay)

We need to make up a lot of percentage, so experience over debutants is what I would do.

I agree but then we start playing guys like Mackay on the wing which weakens us terribly

We need more guys capable of playing outside ( wigg / Milera) to push for games ASAP or bring in guys they can so we can get Atkins more inside as he's a nice little point of difference in there

Really haven't had a lot of options this year. Going forwards it could be a strength with Knight, Hampton and Milera being strong options. Plus if Doedee continues his development curve he could easily allow Smith to be released up the ground more. Right now, gut feel is that if all are fit, it's 2 of Dmac, Seed and Hendo with not much between them in terms of selection favouritism. The main difference is that I don't think Dmac is subject to being replaced by either of those 2 if the weekend prior he's played AFL and they've played SANFL.

That would mean Harry has missed 2 weeks. We spoke last year about how Lyons/Grigg and Mrouch were poorly managed with the sub but this would be even worse.
We already did it to Wigg earlier in the year when he played VB ahead of him, but still sent him up to the Gold Coast and it meant with byes in both SANFL and AFL he played about 2 weeks of footy over a 6 week period.

My feel is that the Chisel is currently undertaking the AFC midfielder conversion course. Part of that program will of course be games, plenty of it will be in the classroom at West Lakes as well as the engine rebuild.

I'm therefore not too concerned at the continuity of SANFL this year.

By 2017 Chisel will have graduated and be ready for AFL midfield time.

I think Pyke will go like for like this week, seeing as we want our players to completely understand their roles for September. For this reason, and also to reward his form in the SANFL, Cam Ellis-Yolmen should play his first AFL game for 2016 this weekend.

DMac unlikely to miss IMO, but if Don said one of CEY/Grigg/Wigg is likely to replace Thommo then it seems as though 3 changes are the go.

Structure goes back to normal.

Gym time as well

But like a broken record I think chisel can become the same sort of player as Durea - same height , similar strengths but needs to put on some size . Will prob play more mid minutes with the grounding he's getting

I hope he's signed for next year because he might be open to being poached

Got a feeling tex may have one more week but all depends on he pulls up from his first training sesh today

IMO Jacobs won't be back next week

ROB v sandi will be a good test for the kid !

Luke Power for mine if you can remember back that far. Pure mid.

I think he's in the future plans, is an Adelaide kid with a strong network - lost his father a while back and so can't see him walking out on mum on top of everything else.

Pretty safe imo

Lukey power with a more penetrating kick - deal

I tend to agree

Wigg has been match day emergency on couple of occasions so hopefully the club is keen to have a look at him

I don't think we'll make more than 2-3 changes either:
Jacobs <--> ROB
Thompson <--> Wigg
Walker <--> Mackay

It's quite possible that we'll only make 2 changes, with Mackay staying in the team and Walker replacing Thompson.

The difference in experience between CEY and Wigg is minimal. Certainly not enough to justify making selections on that basis. Wigg has greater potential, so there's more mid-long term upside to selecting him.

Not according to the Don. By announcing the three candidates to replace Thommo this early, the Don might be putting them all on notice that the selection will be based on their training efforts this week.

I think WW dishes out enough that he can take a bit back. And I can assure you that he doesn't need anyone's help, he's more than happy to return serve himself.
yeah .....i can take care of myself, no issues :thumbsu: .......no return of serve though, i have a short tolerance of idiots ......too many on Saturday, but i weed them out

Is taking care of yourself meaning putting people on ignore who challenge you? That's being a pussy.

Surely they'd be the guys most aware of how important training form is.

I don't care who it's aimed at... it's not necessary.
I agree ......i think most serious posters are here for genuine footy discussion ......seems to have been a real influx of late of posters with short posting history, that seem to be keen to stir the pot ......i haven't the patience to even converse with twats
