Prediction Changes vs. Brisbane

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

What I'd do:

In: Eddy, Atley, Monfries, Palmer, Howard.

Out: Hartlett, Westhoff, S Gray, R Gray (inj), Toumpas.

Actual prediction:

In: Young

Out: Toumpas

Howard is serviceable in the SANFL, has yet to star in a game. Has yet to kick 3 goals in a game.. He is still learning his craft, he is a player of the future, unfortunately not right now
He is the Chb. Has played well all year, until last week when they moved him forward and he got 1 touch in a half, while the defense folded without him.

He comes in and plays in his position, the Chb.

I'm not usually one to go overboard with calling for changes. In fact I'm usually the exact opposite. But after that disgraceful performance and with Brisbane at home coming up next week, this is the perfect time for it.

Out: Hombsch, In: Eddy. Trengove goes down back.

Out: Hartlett, In: Whichever of Houston or Bonner earns it tomorrow.

Out: Toumpas, In: Atley.

Out: S. Gray, In: Monfries. Should've been done a month ago.

Out: DBJ, In: Palmer. Not like for like but we're playing too many defenders anyway. DBJ is having a terrible year.

EDIT: Wouldn't be at all opposed to 'resting' Robbie Gray either, but right now I'm more worried about his heart than his groins. In which case one of those outs would get a reprieve. I suppose that would be Hombsch due to runs on the board. But my god he was awful tonight.

We are all in on our gameplan so I think we will again tinker around the edges.

Out Toumpas
In: Neade or Palmer or Young

Much as the melters and my frustrations want it don't think it would be more (unless injuries).

With respect the wholesale changes people are calling for won't happen. We are in the eight and Ken is not going to disrupt the gameplan now.

Clock is ticking though. Can you hear it Ken?

Not to shabby, not sure about Hombsch though, i know he's having an indifferent season but we know he can play.

I wouldn't mind squeezing Austin into the side for some genuine height although he's not tearing it up at the Magpies.

I'm a huge fan of Hombsch but his game tonight wasn't just a little bit under par. It was (IMO) quite clearly the worst game a PAFC player has played all year. Essendon were playing through his man like he was a traffic cone.

As it says in my edit I'd probably prefer to give him a reprieve and rest Robbie instead, but if he loses his spot after that performance he has no right to feel aggrieved.

"I'll back them to respond "

Coool

Out: Toumpas
In: Neade

Confirmed

Hombsch looked every bit a player with pulverised hips. He's had them operated on that many times. Was so slow.

To be beaten like that was uncharacteristic of him though. He's better than that. However we've been playing him all year as the loose intercepting defender. Essendon just played through his man and Hombsch was too loose. He would have been so out of touch with lock-down defending that he would have been exposed and unprepared.

Outcoached.

I said this in the gamethread but he starts off every game playing very very loose on his man. When he gets goals kicked on him that's when he plays tighter. I don't know whether it's right or wrong from Hombsch (I think he should be playing tight if he is actually up against capapble forwards) but it just screams Russian Roulette for me. The entire backline crumbles or we get some good intercepts/rebounds.

Yeah, I'm a bit the same. But tonight was utter tripe and people need to be put on notice.

OUT - Hombsch, Toumpas, Impey, Hartlett, Byrne-Jones, Pittard
IN - Austin, Atley, Monfries, Palmer, Houston, Bonner

Despite what happened tonight, I think wecould go into next week unchanged and still pump out another 10+ goal win against crap opposition. That shouldn't be the point of our selections this week. The point should be a) to put a rocket up these guys that their positions in the side aren't as locked in as they thought, and b) to try to make sure the guys who benefit from the expected confidence boosting win are newbies with potential like Atley, Palmer and Eddy rather than known quantities with limited ceilings like S. Gray and Toumpas.

Hombsch's game was worse than under par old son, on tonight's performance he would have carded a bogie 10 on the easiest par 3 at your local pitch and putt. ;)

I don't expect Ken to make many changes against Brisbane its not his way. We might have 3 injuries and he will use that as an excuse to not drop underachievers and under performers.

I want us to make 2 or 3 changes a week so we get to a side that looks something like the one below.

I am sick and ****ing tired of a decade plus black hole where we don't have a proper 2nd KPF in the side. Westhoff isn't a KPF FFS!!! In desperation we have to look to a 27 year old rookie who dominates at state league. Just ****ing play Eddy over some useless fumbles and bumbles type 180cm forward type who cant kick goals and isnt much chop. And if Eddy isn't good enough play Todd Marshall. Jack Riewoldt was a skinny 86kg KPF and played 8 games in his first year. Marshall is already 88kgs.

I love Jacko and wanted him to succeed up forward, he took 4 contest marks in our forward half and 2 inside 50 tonight, but he isn't the answer up forward. He goes out of the game for too long up forward and I'd rather have him go out of the game for long periods down back where he spoils and stops the oppo KPF getting the ball. Plus we need taller KPD's. We put so much pressure on Jonas, Hombsch and Clurey as undersized KPD's that it catches up and tonight the dam wall busted. ****ing Cale Hooker could have kicked 8 goals tonight. A bloody defender who out muscled his shrimp Port KPD opponents. And Daniher the same.

Jonas has been playing out of his weight and height division all year and done a great job. Buy Ken is grinding him into the ground and we were exposed tonight when he got hurt and came off the ground and played the rest of the game injured. Hombsch and Clurey jumped against their bigger opponents and were out muscled and fell over each other and their small forwards crumbed the off the pack balls.

Its time we set up 2 197cm+ KPD's in Howard and Jacko and let Jonas and Hombsch/Clurey be the interceptors rather than the one on one defenders on the KPF's.

The blokes I have put on the bench I don't really care anymore if they come in and out of the 22. They are all expandable. They have all under performed this year, big time. They make too many ****s up fumbling bumbling the ball and burn the ball and cause big turnover goals to the oppo. The trouble is they could be replaced by half a dozen or so other fumblers and bumblers. And a few kids need a bit more time before they become regulars.

We really need White to capture his speed and skill of 2014 and 2015 otherwise he isnt much use to us.

Its time to drop the $500k+ guys to the Magpies for a wake up call. Sydney have done it a couple of times now with spud Tippet and the crows with jerker Jenins. Time for Ken - to paraphrase Keating - pull out the sword and use it, and drop underachievers and under performers.

Jonas........Howard...... Hombsch or Clurey
Broadbent..Trengove.....Houston
Polec...........Wines.......Westhoff
Monfries....... Dixon.......Wingard
R Gray.......... Eddy........Palmer
Ryder........... Ebert....... Powell-Pepper

Boak...........Pittard........DBJ......Impey

I'm really concerned about our footspeed.

Adelaide, Geelong and Essendon really took apart us apart due to our inability to keep up and tackle them.
Yep, that's the big take away I got from tonight at the ground. They were peeling off us all over the park as soon as there was a turnover, and once they got a mark on the HFF, one of their fleet of speedsters would be going past and our mids couldn't or wouldn't keep up.

I think that a big hole in our list/team structure has been brutally exposed by Essendon. With Amon out and White cooked, we don't have any AFL ready quick mids. Bonner isn't ready yet (and is being groomed more for HB anwyay), and Impey does not follow structures well enough to be a midfielder. Whilst I think we nailed last years draft, all 3 mids are more inside types. From what I have seen, Atley has pace to burn away from a stoppage, but does he have the endurance to keep Orazio Fantasia honest all night? Clearly Ah Chee and SPP don't given their TOG tonight.

This is why I reckon Neade should come in and play a Charlie Cameron role getting up the ground more. You could argue he is just as likely to blow up, but like Ah Chee he has been in the system long enough now where underlying fitness should not be a factor. If he can't run out a game, drop him, but give him a chance first.

We know Voss loves his big bodied midfield and it has helped us crush a lot of poor teams this year, but we need a couple who can 'run with the bulls'. Chad back to mid and Neade in could help Polec a lot in this regard.

Out - Where to start

Ah Chee (not AFL standard.)
Toumpas (not AFL Standard.)
S Gray (his finishing in front of goal is deplorable and his defensive is the same)
Hartlett (worst game of his career and has to pay for it)
Cheer Squad - massive cockup at the start for not having the banner ready.

In
Atley
Monfries
Eddy
one of Howard/Palmer/Austin

EDIT

and i forgot

R Gray clearly needs a rest as well and Shittard needs to go and find some sort of form in the SANFL.
Carn. The banner was late because the Essendon players refused to get off the ground. From there, the rest is history.
