IMO there is no chance of Lyons playing this week against Collingwood

There is absolutely no chance that Otten or Lyon will play on Thursday night (well, except for the Ebola virus going through the squad).

There are 20 players remaining from last week's disaster (the rules did not allow us to drop any of them to the twos this weekend). Add Douglas, Walker, Rutten, Martin and Cameron means that 3 players will miss out. Walker and Douglas replace Lynch and Jaensch so the question are

Rutten, Hartigan or Shaw. Unlike Vader I am far from convinced that Truck is ready to go. He struggled in the pre-season but others said don't worry he always struggles in the pre-season. He struggled in the first three matches and then Sando declares that he was injured and shouldn't have played. (Well why the bloody hell did you play him Sando). After 2 weeks off he has struggled in his two games in the SANFL. Well at least he has been consistent. It will give me no pleasure to be proven correct and I hope he plays a rippa on Thursday night. My guess is that Shaw will miss out (we did play Truck and Hartigan against Sydney).

Pick four of the following; Petrenko, Grigg, Crouch, Wright, Martin and Cameron.

Despite others calling for the head of Brown and Reilly, I just can't see this happening. We can (should) move Laird back into defence to replace Jaensch but who will replace Reilly? Should we use Shaw to share the loose man duties with Smith (gulp)? Move Grigg back into defence? Finally move Pets into defence :(?

My fear is that Grigg will miss out and either Martin or Cameron (surely not) will be the emergency

Out - Lynch, Jaensch, Shaw and Grigg

In - Walker, Douglas, Rutten and Martin

I really hope that I am wrong.

If Martin plays shows our coaching staff have NFI, he is putrid every time he walks out for the Crows.
He hasn't been great with very limited opportunity in unfamiliar positions I'll grant you that.

But what infuriates me is how some players like Petrenko stink it up week after week when better players have never been given a fraction of those opportunities.

It would have to be Cameron for Petrenko, it just has to

Fringe players Sando loves; JPod, Petrenko, Mackay, Reilly.

Fringe players Sando loves not-so-much; Grigg, Lyons, L Thompson and previously Lynch and Kerridge.

Jpod gave nothing for the first month but there was never any chance of him being dropped. Sando has endless patience with Pets, DMac and Radar. On the other hand Mitch Grigg was dominating the SANFL last year but after a long, long time was finally given a bit over a quarter after taking off the green singlet. He was fantastic and demanded more game time as a midfielder. He had an excellent first 5 games in the AFL but during the pre-season he is moved to the small forward role, WTF?

Kerridge was ignored all 2012 after debuting in the green in round 3. His treatment last year was bizarre, needing a couple of months in the SANFL shortly after his break out game against the Kangaroos (has there been a better break out game). He was on the outer in this pre-season being dropped to the twos and after scraping into the round 1 team has been fantastic (is it time for another stint in the SANFL). Luke Thompson has played 2 games since the start of 2012 (both finals and he played well) but despite playing well in the SANFL there is no way that he will replace Reilly.

Cameron for Petrenko? Everyone knows it makes sense but perhaps Charlie is in the Sando not-so-much camp.

To me Brodie Martin's development typifies why we are in the malaise we are.

We're full of players who showed some promise initially but fast forward 2, 3, 4 years and they are no better than when they first came on the scene.

I'd even include Dangerfield in this category, as brilliant as he is. The issue he had when he first started was that he didn't get enough outside ball, relied purely on smashing into packs and got battered from pillar to post as a result. Now? Exactly the same. What he does he does exceptionally but he hasn't undergone a Ricciuto-like rounding out of his game to make maximum use of his talents and to prolong his career.

Others who I'd put in this category:
Reilly
L Thompson
van Berlo
Jaensch
Wright
Mackay
Otten
Petrenko
Shaw
McKernan
Martin
Henderson

Too many. They're not all going to develop into A Grade guns of course but most of these guys are still either in the reserves or having stints in the reserves at stages over the last season.

Selections too reactive. Not putting enough stock into long term player development. Not backing the younger players in through form lapses. Not identifying the players on that list most likely to succeed and backing them in. And of the senior players on that list, not being demanding enough of them - content for them to be inconsistent role players rather than consistent on field leaders and performers.

I think what is depressing is looking at that list, which is such a chunk of our more experienced ish players, and know that there will never be an AA selection or probably never a B&F amongst them

So in light of the players that were kept out of the sanfl match. As well as the returns of Douglas and Tex (how bloody good does it feel knowing Tex is coming back?!) My team selection is as such.

IN: TEX! Douglas, Rutten, Cameron. (Martin emergency)

OUT: Lynch, Jaensch, Petrenko, Shaw/Hartigan/Reilly.

It really is hard trying to guess which one of those 3 will be out. My best guess would be Shaw.

Could we beat Collingwood with a team of? -

B: Laird, Rutten, Hartigan
HB: Brown, Talia, Henderson
C: Sloane, B Crouch, Smith
HF: Lynch, Jenkins, Douglas
F: Betts, Walker, Pods
R: Jacobs, Thompson, Dangerfield
INT: Wright, M Crouch, Kerridge (Grigg)

Collingwood have been playing Cloke, White and Witts at times so you could see all of Talia, Rutten and Hartigan playing.

For mine:
In: Walker, Douglas, Rutten, Cameron
Out: Lynch, Jaensch, Petrenko, Reilly

Unlucky Brodie Martin... misses out.

Turns out the banner for Thursday nights game was made last Tuesday so I am 99.9% certain it will feature Brent Reilly and I cannot see anyone associated with the club even contemplating him not playing his 200th game this week.

It would be rather embarrassing if he ended up being dropped and the players run through his banner without him... in primetime... with a nationwide audience

Not as embarrassing as Brent Reilly running through it to play his 200th game for our club.

No different to every poster on here. Everyone sees something in certain players which suits the way they like to see the game played. We all see players differently to the next guy. Sando is probably no different.

They re-use the same banner every week so it wouldn't be too hard to replace the Radar's 200th message with one of the 3 or 4 standard ones they use for every non-milestone game.

It's time for the 19th Man
To play your role
As we strive towards
Achieving our goal

Or whatever other nonsense they can think of.

That to me is a massive improvement of the team that lost to the Demons.

Not sure if we can play Rutten, Talia and Hartigan all in the same side.

While I hate the bye, the fact that our next game is on Thursday is great and obviously much closer than a Saturday or Sunday game.

It is part of the role of the coach to initially rate players based not only on their attributes but also what they can contribute to the game plan. The problem is when coaches refuse to re-evaluate their views when there is overwhelming information to contradict their initial opinion.

This was a constant criticism of our former coach but nothing seems to have changed.

Will need all 3 of them against Collingwood's talls.
