19 touches and a goal in 60 percent game time is definitely carving it up, but if he does come back he will be rusty

can someone explain to me the point of rushing scully back in? So we throw him back in underdone and he does a soft tissue injury.. and we still lose. Would we not look kinda stupid then?

Why not give him another run for casey to let him get at least a couple of games of match fitness? Then he'll get a long rest for the QB game (10 day break - almost a bye) and be primed to go for the pies and be at less of a risk of doing a soft tissue..

They really stuffed up at the selection table against Carlton. We had a really good chance to play some youngsters but went for the same olds except Nicholson who was a sub, another wasted week by Bailey.

B: Nicholson, Frawley, MacDonald
HB: Strauss, Rivers, Blease
C: Scully, Moloney, Jones
HF: Sylvia, Watts, Green
F: Jurrah, Howe, Jetta
FOLL: Martin, McKenzie, Trengove
IC: Evans, Gysberts, Gawn
SUB: Petterd
EMERG: Maric

If Bartram isn't out for 3 weeks, drop Petterd and put Evans in as the sub.

Out: Evans, Nicholson, Warnock, Newton, Maric
In: Scully, Trengove, McDonald, Gawn, Dunn

Evans: Very rough
Nicholson: He came on and got 7 touches in 30% of gametime when we were getting smashed. What were you expecting exactly?

In: Scully, Trengove, Gawn, Dunn
Out: Newton, Bate, Bennell, Morton

How is Gawn's ability to run games out? i dont watch a lot of Casey, but for those who do, is his fitness at afl level? I guess he couldnt be worse than newton, I just dont want him getting injured.

Not just that I think he had 4 tackles as well. Pressure on the ball carrier is something we massively lack. He stays in IMO.

Add Warnock out McDonald in and I reckon this is what will happen. Failey has already flagged McDonald as a possible in, and Warnock couldn't have had a worse night if he were high on acid Friday.

Dunn won't come in, he had a shocker and got ripped into by the coach in the game he got suspended.

Nicholson was the 22nd man, the fact he didn't get much gametime/didn't do much wrong shouldn't get him another game on its own.

The best twenty-two players we can put out next week don't include either of them IMO. For the economics students, LIFO.

Bailey already said he'll return in this article http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/114959/default.aspx
He also says Mcdonald and Gawn could debut and Scully is a chance and also Davey is a possiblity, that could be 6 ins with Trengove as well

Out would be
Evens and Nicholson, harsh but they aren't the guys turning this team around, they would be better coming in the team when we are playing better
Newton, Gawn takes his place
Warnock, Mcdonald replaces him
Bate, I don't think we'll ever see him again
Jetta, doesn't do enough for the team at the moment, he will get better with time but someone has to go

Davey and Dunn both need form back, if Davey plays he'll come out firing but not sure about Dunn but we need his experience, he needs to play well or he is out.
Lucky players are Petterd, Bennell, Morton and Maric
I think petterd is overated, plays one good game and we all think he's a star but then goes missing for the next 3, only safe cos we need people who can take a mark
We need Bennell's speed and spark, needs to do more though
Morton needs more time in the AFL to get back to his best, he will be fine in the end
Same with Maric, could be a very good player, needs to get more consistant games

If Gawn plays he would do more ruck work than what Newton does, this would allow Steffan Martin to spend more time in the back line, this wont happen but i wouldn't mind seeing Rivers play in the forward line, from memory he was drafted as a CHF, he took a nice mark on the weekend and went back and kicked a nice goal, if i was the coach i would try him up forward

well i wanna know this, are we gonna play that shit style of footy with everyone but one forward back behind the footy??? if so then we need more running types and dump some useless marking forwards so i would go

out- bate, petterd, newton, warnock
in- scully, trengove, gawn, mcdonald

this side is far more balanced with a genuine ruckman, martin can play out of the goal square swapping with gawn, and we also have to more smalls to help with the outrageously top heavy side we had in last week

both dunn and davey should have to earn there spot back, davey and dunn were both terrible in their last games and if there names were warnock and morton they would be dropped.. they play at casey until they show form

I dont think Scully should come in before playing a Full VFL match.

He only played 60% this round which essentially only translates into less than half a game worth of intensity at AFL level.

So that would mean he needs to more than double his output over a course of one week. And that's the easiest way to do a soft-tissue injury.

Scully sub perhaps?

gives him re-exposure to AFL intensity, though probably not 100% game time. Also could come on and give us a spark.

The only downside is an injury in the first 10 minutes, meaning Scully becomes more susceptible.

In; Bartram, Trengove, Scully & Gawn

Out; Warnock, Bate, Newton & Petterd

In the week before we played the Saints, all the talk from the coaches & players was, "we have to take the game on", so what happened to this being the way to play against the Blues???

This week we must get as many runners in to our team that we can, Martin & Gawn change at Full Forward... I would also alternate Scully & Trengove as a deep forward (both really know how to compete & keep the ball in the area)....

I would leave Gawn/Martin & Scully/Trengove as the only players inside our forward 50, with the other forwards running back with the flight of the ball when we get it inside 50...

Forget this crap about playing a extra man behind the ball, make every player accountable for an opponent, beating a guy one on one will allow our players to develop a better work ethic than what they are learning currently...

I know it's a bit harsh to drop them, but we need to field our best 22 players that are available and Scully and Trengove are better then them.
They performed well and probably deserve to remain in the side, but it's just bad luck.

B. Frawley Warnock Nicholson
HB. MacDonald Rivers Strauss
C. Jones Moloney Morton
HF. Sylvia Watts Green
F. Maric Jurrah Petterd
R. Martin McKenzie Trengove
IC. Gawn Jetta Gysberts Evans

IN. Gawn Trengove Strauss
OUT. Bate Newton Bennell

Forward line looks slow, back line has a couple of rookies that could get torched.

The positive is that our defensive problems will be fixed when Bartram and Tapscott come back in, and our midfield depth is going to be awesome when Scully and Jamar come back in. It really just leaves the forward line with issues... no crumbers, not enough pace from our smalls, no power forward, no defensive pressure.

C. Jones Moloney Morton
HF. Sylvia Watts Green
F. Maric Jurrah Petterd
R. Martin McKenzie Trengove
IC. Gawn Jetta Gysberts Evans

IN. Gawn Trengove Strauss
OUT. Bate Newton Bennell

Best yet, I agree with those changes... Possibly with Blease and/or Howe coming in as well.

B: James Frawley, Tom McDonald, James Strauss

HB: Joel MacDonald, Jared Rivers, Daniel Nicholson

C: Sam Blease, Ricky Petterd, Nathan Jones

HF: Colin Sylvia, Jack Watts, Brad Green

F: Addam Maric, Jeremy Howe, Jamie Bennell

FOLL: Stef Martin, Brent Moloney, Jordie McKenzie

I/C: Jordan Gysberts, Max Gawn, Liam Jurrah, Jack Trengove (Sub)

IN: Mcdonald Strauss Blease Howe Gawn Trengove

Out: Warnock Morton Newton Bate Jetta Evans

Gawn and Martin to alternate between ruck and forward, with McDonald to also pinch hit. Jones to play on a wing to utilise his speed, ditto with blease. Petterd in the midfield to get him involved in the game and build confidence.

Jurrah to play in the middle for the 1st half, I wanna see him chase, harrass! using his speed and agility, making the essendon players as witches hats and deliver the ball to our forward line.
