no I am not part of the crows medical staff however I do work in the sports injury industry and if you check my previous weeks postson selection I have said Goody would strugglefor selection for the past 2 rounds, it's my opinion that he is at least 2 weeks away

so you work in "sports injury" but don't think you need actual information/case notes/examination to be able to diagnose him? that's 180 degrees arse about. the more people know about a given field, the most circumspect they usually are about making statements without all the info.

sounds like you're relying on a wing and prayer to make that statement.

Of course the jury is still out on James he has played 2 games and when assessing he you need to take in to consideration the opposition, lets be honest he did not set the world on fire

On SMACK, I am aware that he did not ruck last night however he has the tools to play in various roles including in the ruck

he did not ruck AT ALL. its a little premature to just assume he'll step in.

Today's footy you need to build flexibility into your sides I just like the fact SMACK can play CHF,CHB or Ruck, yes somewould argue the same case for Sellar however IMO SMACK's verticle leap, his engine and his competitive nature puts him in front of Sellar in my books

i'm sorry where is the evidence yet that SMACK can play all these roles effectively? he looked absolutely too light and thin to ruck last night.

of course I dont have the clubs medical info on Goody I only read what the clud releases regarding his injury and when many people on the board was selecting him over the past 2 weeks I continue to say that he would not play and that was based on my knowledge of the injury type not Goody's case and thus far I haveproven to be correct. Its no different to Healy on the couch making an injury observation, he makes the observation based on his knowledge of the injury type and his history of treating so many similar cases

on SMACK, he played TAC cup and the National Championships in all 3 roles, Matt Rendell, Craigy, Nobel, Matt Clarke, Clay Sampson have all come out and said he has the athletic capabilityand versitility to play all 3 roles and we did not need to see SMACK in the ruck last night to know that one day he could develop into a ruckman

FFS read Clay Sampsons comments regarding his ruck work and his ability to play both ends

its up to you if you want to base your opinion on purely on his first afl game of footy

The nickname 'SMACK' has already become incredibly annoying.

I think the competitive nature of the lad is what has won everyone over ......and had him as a preference to Sellar

I know of late I'm drawing a lot of player comparisons but in the early years Rutten also received vast criticism from this board .........a common phrase was built like tarzan plays like Jane

Rutten was not known for his competitive nature or speed .......but he had a great footy brain and we needed a FB to release Bassett
Experience, oppportunity, and club confidence in Rutten has produced a fine player.

I just see so many similarities with Sellar and the slow developing Bock & Rutten ........ he just needs time in the SANFL, further developing by our coaches, opportunity, and we'll have IMO a good tall player

I like your attitude ! If we get someone anywhere near Rutten well be in the plus. Let's hope it plays out way in practice. Rutten... he doesn't really prefer tarzans does he ?

Are you saying Maric's position is cemented ........because he's far from getting my confidence going into a finals campaign

Not sure Adel will push Tippett back into the ruck .....which is what you are suggesting

Can see Goodwin, Walker, Reilly and Burton coming in .......although I have always seen Burton replacing Walker THIS YEAR

Can't see Petrenko coming back in .....not this year anyway

Douglas and Symes I think are safe
Rucking in a concern, given we are a better side with Tippett up forward. Maric is safe for now. Hopefully Sellar or McKernan find themselves at this level. Griffin should be doing everything to play well & make his way back as a huge opportunity. Need 2/4 to find some decent form. Having said that, no change to talls this week. Walker needs a few weeks to earn his way back & give Sellar/McKernan a decent crack.

Smalls under the pump - in order - Shirley, Symes, Douglas.
By - Goodwin, Reilly & Burton in a few weeks (as I think he will enable Porps to move in midfield - rather than being a threat to Walker/McKernan). Expect either 1/2 changes this week.

would ideally like the forwards to be tippett/walker/burton/porps/stevens and a resting midfielder.. i think thats a good mix..

No changes for me unless Goodwin is back and then I would say Shirley or Douglas to make way. Reilly needs to play well a few weeks in a row to get back for mine. Similarly I don't think the club will belive Walker has had enough time to work on whatever it is they want him to work on.

Burton will be treatd cautiously and will play at least one more in the SANFL. Two more would be perfect as an Eagles supporter.:D

so in other words... nothing.

one day, not next week.

FFS read Clay Sampsons comments regarding his ruck work and his ability to play both ends

FFS observe Neil Craig's actions regarding his ruck readiness.

besides, Clay Sampson is dead to me after he vetoed the trade with collingwood in 1998 for pick 4.

its up to you if you want to base your opinion on purely on his first afl game of footy

up to you, if you want to get confused between a thread talking about next week, and passing comments on what someone might eventually be able to do.

I doubt they will make any changes, considering who we are playing.
I think they rolled the dice with playing MacKernan and Sellar by playing what they perceived as a easy opposition with Richmond and will probably feel the same with Freo.

If MacKay doesnt come up with his injured arm, then either Goodwin (if fit) or Reilly (shouldn't be) will come in.

On the Symes debate, he's starting to remind me a lot like Matty Connell with his hospital balls, but Mat was twice the player Brad is unfortunately.

Did anyone else notice Sandilands hobbling a bit today?

Anyways, I have doubts that Goodwin will be right for this week. It's a medial ligament and they want to be absolutely sure before putting him back in. I think they'll err on the side of caution.

I'd leave Tex for one more week in the SANFL. Make him hungry to get back with the boys. I'd also leave the two talls in (depending on weather conditions).

No changes for mine unless Goodwin comes up and then I'm not sure who I'd drop.

It seemed fairly clear to me that McKernan is still not ready for the AFL, but I've no doubts he'll get the extra game next week just to be certain.

Setting the world on fire Sellar was not, but he certainly looked more at home on the ground than McKernan did.

i thought the opposite to be honest, with the competitiveness for someone so young i'd leave him in for the rest of the year.

Sure he competed, but he was quite obviously too light of frame to compete effectively. At least Sellar has the necessary frame to do it, which is exactly why he was second ruck all night, and McKernan never went near the centre circle.

I think he'll have his 2 sighters, like Jacky, Dangerfield and Otten last year, where he has looked very much out of his depth, as Jacky, Dangerfield and Otten did last year, and then head back to the SANFL for the rest of the season (barring an emergency) with a better understanding of where he is at now, where he needs to be, and how far away from that standard he is.

oh ok, yeah body wise he probably is a bit light for the ruck yet but considering he was just replacing walker theres no a lot of difference and he certainly didnt look out of his depth. I dont think craigy will keep in him for long but i'd like him to and if from all reports he's dominating at SANFL level already so some AFL footy might do him some good. Same goes for walker.

Well if Walker comes back like we think he will, one of Sellar and McKernan will have to go - and with Griffin and Moran both injured, and Tippett far too important in the goal square, the survivor will need to ruck. McKernan is certainly not physically ready for that, whereas Sellar is, even if his ruck work is not A grade.

Aside from that, I think he really did look out of his depth. His best work was a couple of instances where he kept an almost dead ball alive on the deck, by making the most of his long arms to keep it away from the defenders and the boundary line. Good work, but hardly what he's in the team for. He lacked any real physical presence at marking contests, giving away a free kick at the only contest he won.

fair point about the need for a ruck as moran was the one who went out, i'd just like us to find a way to squeeze him in somewhere. He is almost mobile enough to play on a wing really.

Walker should come back in. As much as I like Mckernan, Walker is a better player at the moment. With Tippet at FF we have a much better balance with Walker in the team rather than Mckernan.

Sellar probably has to stay in as second ruck. Its no coincidence that we have won six games straight with Tippet playing FF for most of the game. Craig would be very reluctant to change that and not pick a second ruckman.

Goodwin if fit will come in. Shirley, Symes or Douglas will miss out.

McKernan is too light to ruck at AFL level yet. Give him another big pre-season in the weights room. Given Craig's track record of giving players a few games once selected, I'd think they will both play against Freo.
On Symes, he gives us a bit of run in last qs when he comes on with fresh legs. Also, his hardness at the ball is great. Given that, I guess it is between Symes and Shirley to make way for Goody. And Reilly is knocking on the door as well. Great problems to have!

in a development year and with the balance of probabilities meaning we wont win a final imo, another couple of youngsters will debut. starting with armstrong this week for either shirely/douglas.

one more week for mc kernan then walker/burton to replace him

sellar and griff to fight out the ruckspot. ditto for symes and reilly

i dont think we can assume goodwin will be back this week. has he played his last game?
