Tas, further to your post ^^, I agree with BTrons assessment.

Considering how you are thinking, who would you have picked instead? Would you have kept Keys out and gone another mid do you mean? (not saying you are wrong, just asking)

I thought with Jpod being suspended it was okay to replace Grima with someone smaller, because it would be tall for tall that went out of the side. But, it ws not just Jpod, they also dropped Brown, a tallish defender leaving them one tall short in the back line which might result in their surplus ruckman dropping back.

2 tall forwards + 4 small forwards vs 4 tall defenders + 2 small defenders doesn't seem like something that would work in our favour.

Given the matchups, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Delaneys was a late out. Who would come in? Well, we have Daw, Wright and Greenwood as emergencies, I would imagine Greenwood would be the best option. In a pinch we could push Jacobs and/or MacMillan back to cover smaller forwards. I can't see Geelong having more than 3 tall forwards at any given time and it may be no more than 2 for most of the game.

Geelong's Josh Walker has been upgraded to the senior list, and is set to debut tonight with Tom Hawkins rumored to be a late withdrawal according to the sun.

surely greenwood comes in for delaney now?

Josh Walker is a 6'5 forward...

You would think so if its true...

Out: C.Delaney In: L.Greenwood

he aint no hawkins though. We have to play to our strengths and we have players to cover already.
Which defensively has recently meant getting Lachie loose. They will still have the potential to play three tall forwards at one time out of West, Vardy, Walker, Biclavs and Taylor If they do that all day then playing Lachie loose is off the table without Keys.

and we just need to run run and run. we are good at setting up our goals from defence. Huge opportunity to use this to our advantage.

Hence get Lach loose because he runs all day but can also have serious impact aerially. Going in with one less tall removes this strength.

Wow - Pods and Hawkins out?? That would be massive - they were both in good form.

Also, one reason he's been so effective loose is that opposition teams would need to effectively sacrifice an extra tall to match him up.

Which gets me thinking, if Blicavs is an undersized endurance freak backup ruck, would Lachie be a sensible extra ruck option this week? Or is that robbing too much from the backline?

Who is going to pick up our 3 tall forwards, Stokes? :p

I suspected they would make this call also with Pods and Brown out. But as teams are named at same time it may be you are right and a late change "adjusts" it to more how you are saying - who knows.

I personally would rather drop Delaney Jnr and put in Greenwood if I was in charge, purely on match up and the kid would be unlucky but think Keys can go to Hawkins to match the big body (hopefully).

As you say Thommo/Hansen/Next tall most probably will be enough with their fleet of small forwards who they appear to have tried to accommodate against us - I personally wouldn't want Jacobs/Macmillan taking on a key defensive post if we can help it.

Oh sh*t... watch this kid become the next nobody to kill us and kick a bag.

This is the last round you can elevate rookies, not sure if he is going to play or not, Geelong might just be getting him ready to play if required over the next few weeks.

Yeah, Brown was an unknown, with him out it makes it less likely that someone like Taylor will go forward, unless they roll the dice hardcore. They might back themselves to play a smaller guy on Black because he isn't that tall, but he is dangerous overhead.

Geelong still have talls on the emergency, they might change their side as well, don't really know. They seem too short down back.

Yeah, I think Cam has more natural talent than Car Keys and has better disposal skills but in terms of matchups, you would have to say someone who can play full back is a better fit.

Yeah, neither are my preferred candidates either. Hopefully guys like Mullett, Hine and Atley will likely get the job done.

While I have a romantic ideal of Atley playing in the middle, he isn't exactly setting the world on fire up the ground either, might be better off just having him run with one of their quicker players who are defensively not as accountable and try and burn them on the rebound.

Not sure how you separate the posts like you do Tas, but put it this way - I agree 100% on all points.

Well it seems a change has been made to bring in Wright for Spare Keys - not sure if right call, I've exhausted my bag Scott posts for the week so that's all I will say.

As you you say hopefully the lack of defensive accountability can be turned into a positive for rebounding - as BTron said that is also depended on the accountability and competiveness of the midfield, so will be tough but hopefully they can uphold their end so that weakness is not so obviously exploited as it has at various times this season.
