What's the point of naming him as the emergency then?

Seems to me there's only 2 reasons people get named emergency...1 is that you might need them to play. The other is to tell them that they're close to selection.

It's annoying since Ryan is coming off his best game but I wouldn't dwell on it too much - they're just kids at the end of the day. I'm just going to be happy because we have Deluca back in the side and hopefully McCarthy is feeling more refreshed and can have a good return game!

I seriously doubt Ross is thinking of bringing Tabs in if it is dry. There is a 10% chance of rain from 11am-10pm in the current forecast. He wouldn't have picked a wet weather side as the starting point.

It was pretty clear from the presser after the derby that Ross was not going to play Taberner this week (and perhaps never again).

I think this wasn't clear at all. He just said you have to look at more than just the goals kicked. Ruck hitouts, running patterns? He didn't specify.

Agreed. + to give the emergency an opportunity to travel, not that is relevant in this case.

I hope that when Taberner gets back in the team he gets a run at it. I'm guessing that the reason he was dropped in the past needs to be completely obliterated during Peel games before he is recalled.

It doesn't help when there are so many binary opinions on this board.

The only reason I can think of is that Kersten has only been dropped once. Taberner has been dropped multiple times. So maybe Lyon has not lost his patience with Kersten yet.

He's certainly been trying hard to get dropped. But Lyon won't drop him despite other forwards on our list clearly outperforming him.

Tabs is clearly doing or not doing something he shouldn't/needs to. Lets be honest, he has dominated for Peel before, come in and shown a little bit and then gone to complete water more than once before. I am fairly sure I have seen one of the anti-Lyon pro-Tabs brigade from this thread use the
"doing something the same way over and over and expecting the same result is crazy"
adage on another thread. Perhaps this is the exact phenomenon we are experiencing with Tabs. Clearly he hasn't put it together at AFL level and maybe they are making him change something fundamental to give Tabs and the team the best chance of being successful.

There is no way we can know for sure what the problem is, but I'll be blown away if any of you try to tell me Tabs doesn't have significant flaws. I also personally don't care if the forward structure is not perfect yet because we are not trying to win the flag this year. The forward line is the last thing that clicks generally.

I actually also think that playing a smaller forward line should *theoretically* force our players to lower their eyes. They have enough trouble doing this as it is. Imagine if they had 1 or 2 200cm blokes to plonk it on.

I like Tabs, but something for him needs to change. I am backing Ross and the coaches on this one.

Still a structurally senseless forward line, which is in essence a senseless game plan.Over it.

Either
1. Tabs has bonked someone he shouldn't have
2. It's the easiest way to attempt to legitimate your tanking (no forward structure, but citing issues needing correction in a junior league on your current best option for fixing that structure).
3. Yeah, can manufacture a 3, but WAFL output by Kersten compared to Tabs and there isn't really one.

If it's a tank and I'm inclined to think it is, I am not happy about it. Player management is one thing, but to deliberately reduce your chance to win to get a more advantageous draft is against the literal and spirit of the rules.

I seriously hope not, Geelong wasted 5 years patiently trying to develop him - we can't give a nothing player that was getting picked behind JOSH WALKER at one point another 3 year chance. He's just collecting pay checks at this point.
