I think O Allen could play better than Schofield down back at the minute. Calls for Rotham to play Schoeys role have not watched him play as a keyback during 2017 and 18. He was getting slaughtered and didn't get to play his natural game.
Bring in Rotham to play Coles role. Maybe he could play Schofields role briefly while Will rests. Give him some experience. Will be important later.

It seems very unlike us to say "Oh the Optus broke my Willie" and then bring him back for his first hitout in what - two months? - on the deck we are accusing of breaking him.
We play on that deck every other week - he was always 50/50 chance of coming back at Optus.

The alternative is put him on a flight for an away game. Which is better ?

Optus Stadium outfield looks more lushious then previously , I think they are trying to soften the surface it will be a slower wicket but leading into winter they need to cut grass higher rather then lower ....it looked good or different in the Freo / Richmond game . Playing a WAFL state game prior might have cut it up a bit too .

OUT

Cole, Waterman

IN

TBC

Forget the ins. Just play the match down 2 players. The last team who did that at Optus had a convincing win.

It did indeed look magnificent but I think that's mainly because of which team was being pantsed across all areas of the ground.

Bit of an analysis of how the teams are faring this year:

1557823343949.png

Summary: both sides have struggled on offense, but we've at least been pretty efficient with our forward 50 entries whereas Melbourne are far and away the least efficient - only scoring on about every third inside 50 (33.5% - only one other side is below 40%).

Our backline has stood up well, conceding very few goals despite the club being bottom-four in inside-50s conceded. By contrast, Melbourne's defence has leaked pretty badly.

Conclusion: even with a bad inside-50 discrepancy this week, we should still be able to get over the line.

Can't believe they're not going to give him a run in the WAFL to get match fitness, they'd better be 110% confident in his foot and his fitness.
Was thinking this, but then again, the same risk of injuring the foot probably exists at WAFL level anyway. He's still been running, jumping, kicking and tackling at training so you'd assume it's good to go.

Two main issues for me:
1. They’ve identified Optus Stadium’s hard surface as a concern, so it seems overly risky to bring him back for a game on that surface.
2. If they want to manage his minutes, it’s easier to do that in the WAFL.

Oh and a third: it’ll probably mean Waterman gets dropped after just one (reasonable) match back in the AFL side.

Why not rest Kennedy or Darling and retain Waterman to play alongside OAllen? (if Rioli is an in). JK and JD look cooked and a rest would be beneficial.

Hope Waterman doesn't get dropped. Needs to be a tall like Allen.

I think Allen goes as well. We’ll need the two rucks to double team Gawn, so Hickey replaces Allen.

Can't be comfortable with any of our games at the moment. But if we beat Melbourne...

The Adelaide game feels like a game changer for the rest of our season. That game is huge.
