Don't mind the idea of moving T Mac back, I think he might benefit from the change and we should be open to it. I feel it would make our back 6 more stable. If Richmond do play both Lynch and Riewoldt, then it would be necessary for us to move him back I'd say.

Come on Melbourne brains trust show some balls and bring in Garlett and Lockhart to put some forward pressure on the Tigers defence. As stated previously T’Mac has to play down back on either Lynch or Jack R. Lewis’ last chance otherwise wind him up and make him a line coach. Spargo back to the VFL, but I think he’ll eventually be a good player for us.

Full forwards - Lockhart. Preusss. Garlett

Hunt and Stretch on the wings and tell them to spread and run like mad.

Problem is that you can’t make significant changes to a game plan in 4 days and expect the players to do it properly.

I'd like to think the players spent time on more than just our current patently outdated game plan over summer.

Having said that, I'm not even sure what are game plan is. We fluke goals and then let the opposition kick 5. If we're trying to achieve something beyond that I have literally no idea what it is.

Goodwin was asked about playing McDonald back in the post match on Saturday.

He said he tried to put Tom on the wing to "get him into the game" (should have given him a run in the ruck) but then said Tom's best football was as a forward and he won't be played in the backline and seemed adamant he'd get through his form slump as a forward...

Really can't see Simon eating shit on that one.

Wouldn't put Petty in this game, think that would be quite harsh as this is such a big game and he did struggle in his first game last year. If his good form continues and we want to bring in a tall defender, I wouldn't be against bringing him in next week against Hawthorn or the week after against Gold Coast assuming May is still recovering and O Mac is still in the 2's.

I suppose back then our only leaders were Jones and Bern, given we'd just traded Dunn and delisted Cross. These days, Viney and Gawn should have theoretically become better on-field leaders and we shouldn't need a cooked Lewis to tell our players where to run.

That’s 17 of close to our starting 22 that have played less than 100 games or a bit over. Of the 6 others;

McDonald - 151

So essentially right now, irrespective of what you think of Hibberd & Jetta, we have a core group where 5 players that have played over 100 games (Gawn, Viney, McDonald, Melksham, May)

I expect another 50-60 games into that core group before they are ready for a crack at the flag, that’s 2-3 seasons away. Jones, Lewis, Hibberd, Jetta wont be there, but hopefully Melksham & McDonald will be. Richmond played 3 finals series in a row before dropping away then winning in 17. Hawthorn went through some changes after 08 (5 year gap) before the next flag, WC played a PF in 2011 before floating around a bit and playing a GF in 15 then the flag year last year. Geelong built their list from the 99 and 01 draft before playing finals in 04, 05 then missing in 06 and playing 4 GF in 5 years winning 3.

What have we played? One finals series? Man, we are WAY off a shot at it. I am tipping 2021 could be the year IF;
1. We recover something of 2019
2. Play finals in 2020
3. Address some list management issues: retire who we need to, trade and delist etc
4. Keep the core group together
5. Address the assistant coaching issues and game plan issues and target a really gun assistant coach

I am happy to concede 2019 is a write off if we can salvage part of it and be ready next year with a shot at it in 2021. That will be Goodwin’s 5th year - not unreasonable given how it worked out for Hardwick.

We will probably need two ruckman against you though. One of them will need to get back quite a lot to try and interfere with Riewoldt and Lynch, particularly if we keep McDonald forward and only play Frost.

Should Riewoldt and Lynch play, then yeah we'd need another tall down back I reckon. T Mac would be my pick to switch back but Goodwin did say in his press conference that they were going to keep playing him forward.
