Speaking about rucks,...

Can some explain to me why Giles is killing it for gws and not us?

I don't know what happenednthere

Sliding doors moment.

Had we given him an extra year, he still would have been at Central, still would have been behind Griffin, still would have been sitting on the bench and we'd be in the same situation as we would have been in at the end of 2009.

Bit harsh on Pfeiffer. 15 possessions and not many of them cheap. Got a couple of turnovers attempting to be aggressive and one of which when he received a handball with three players around him. Did some unselfish things which did not show up on stat sheets that lead to goals.

Also did anyone notice how he was given a tagging role on Sloane and did well to stop his impact. Played a similar tagging role for a period against Pendlebury as well.

At least Pfeiffer is competitive and doesn't give up. With more games under his belt he will be valuable.

Let's remember, a rookie pick and in two games is averaging 18 possessions. I'm not saying he is Ablett but I have been impressed given his two games have been against Collingwood away and a Showdown. Any player would have a few nerves in their second game for a Club but certainly worth persevering with.

Well said.

I'm willing to give Pfeiffer some time to become accustomed the pace of the game.

I was more disappointed with things like Kane Cornes passing from 25 metres out on his own (which Westhoff goaled from his arse, but shouldn't have had to), and Cassisi's form. Those guys have played enough AFL.

You mean Sloane, who many were saying was best on ground in terms of impact? Oh.

And he's not just a rookie listed player. He's 24 at his third AFL club. He doesn't deserve more of a chance. He was woeful.

They showcased that on On the Couch last night. You could see Primus lose it in the coaches box when Kane did that. Im not sure ive seen a stranger thing happen in a forward 50. 25 metres from goal and you dish off to a 2 on 2 in the goal square. Bizarre. Between that and the Hartlett brainfart which cost a goal, our players really do some damn stupid things with the footy at times. Primus looks equally as frustrated as the supporters do at these things.

Yeah Sloane who was absolutely dominating until Pfeiffer started tagging him. Not like Pfeiffer was tagging him all game.

You mention third club like he's played 100 games. Fact remains he's played two tough games for Port, still finding his way and is averaging 18 possessions.

If the expectation is 30 possessions a game at 100 percent efficiency then I suggest they be revised as Judd wasn't available in the rookie draft.

No I mention third club as in he wasn't good enough for his first two. Why should we play him ahead of players that are younger and on their first chance and aren't in love with turning the ball over? If we wanted a tagger, we'd make Kane our tagger. We need some run and penetration in the midfield, which seems to be the opposite of what Darren wants to do. Should we have also given Jay Nash more of a chance?

Edit: I'm not saying we delist Pfeiffer straight away, I'm happy to have him as depth, I just see no reason why an opposition supporter would come in and try and convince me of a 24 year old, 3rd clubber who had a terrible game. That's just frustrating as hell.

It's his leg speed a and disposal that worries me to the point others should be played in front of him.

Cassisi seems the real worry to me....
Lets face it in the last when the game was to be won, the captian of all people should have been seen to step, show the way etc but our midfield disapeared without a wimper. Scott Thomson now i think he stepped up!
Can you drop Cassisi? Maybe. Would they? Doubt it.
In saying that hes signed on again for next year?
Who would we appoint skipper anyway? Boak?

We are really lacking spead and skills at the stopages. Its time we throw caution to the wind and make hartlett start in the centre. Put the guys we are pinning our hopes on where they need to be and see what happens.
Boak, Hartlett, Ebert in the centre. Jacobs, pearce even Sal on the wings / rotating through the heart of the midfield.

I agree. Pfeiffer has been very harshly judged. He needs a couple of games to pick up the pace and then lets see what he can do.

There is certainly a lot to like about the way he plays. He is a big solid body and he runs in straight lines. He hits the body hard and when he gets it he looks to move it forwards towards goals. He isn't playing it safe trying to preserve his DE% like some others seem to.

Updated:

Out:

Schulz - I see nothing, noooothing.
Renouf - Not in our Top 2 Ruckman. Bass > Renouf.
Cassisi - "Rested"
Wingard - Injured

In:
Redden - I wasn't played due to Primus having less idea than a Frozen Thawed Shrimp
Lobbe - Comes in, rested up forward.
Salopek - I like you Sal. Play like you did in Round 24.
Hitchcock - To replace Wingard.

Squad Changes:
In Sub:
Rodan
Out Sub: Young

Emergencies: Moore, D. Stewart, Ebert.

In - Redden - OUT - Renouf (he is very underwhelming)
In - D. Stewart - OUT - Schulz (Popeyed)
In - Phillips - OUT - Wingard (injuries to new players continues)

Would entertain the thought of Salopek for Broadbent too.

I think we should bring in Phillips to add some much needed leg speed.

Agree with TSW and Young should start this week. Broadbent/Salopek to start as SUB.

I think Ebert would be infront of Philips for the Winguard spot but I'm on the page with everyone here. Would enjoy seeing Youngy get a full game to, I liked that he went forwards no ****ing aroudn when he got the pill on Sunday.

Not too bad. Leave Young in and give him another chance. We can;t expect him to play amazingly in his first game, give him 2 or 3 games. Hitchcock hasn't changed since he was recruited, I'm over him to be honest.

Lobbe/Redden would prefer Lobbe for his size and 2 ruckmen is crucial
Salopek to replace broadbent or pfeiffer
Hitchcock in good goal kicking form to replace Wingard

Out:
Schulz inj
Wingard inj
Broadbent/Pfeiffer

Rodan to start as sub and then come on for Hitchy. I have a feeling this week could be a real breakout game for Butcher as he seems to thrive on being the number 1 target in the forward line

I saw enough from Pfeiffer to think that he deserves to be persevered with.

Honesty reckon he reeks of the sort of guy who Carlton loaded up on when their draft picks were taken away.

Just a vanilla squad bod to kill time until Walker, Kennedy (Judd), Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy and co got old enough to do the business.

10-20 touches here and there, nothing spectacular, occasionally frustrating - see Daniel Harford, David Gallagher, David Teague, Glen Bowyer, Jordan Bannister, David Clarke, Brett Johnson, Darren Pfeiffer, the list goes on and on.

Unlike Carlton I believe we have better options.

****. Schulz and Wingard out makes me think they'll bring back Brett Ebert. Please don't bring back Brett Ebert.

Out: Schulz (inj), Wingard (inj), Renouf, Pfeiffer
In: D. Stewart, Logan, Redden, Salopek

Stewart direct replacement for Schulz, Redden direct replacement for Renouf, Salopek direct replacement for Pfeiffer. Young replaces Wingard in the forward pocket, Rodan replaces Young as sub, Hartlett/Pearce replace Rodan in the midfield rotations and Logan replaces Hartlett/Pearce in defence.

If we did have better options, he wouldn't be playing any AFL games.

Because coaches always get it right?

I'd throw the team around quite a bit to get some better, more creative players around our midfield.

Logan, Paul Stewart and Surjan to play as the 3 small defenders.

Pearce (having a below average season, so very much on the edge IMO), Hartlett (enough has been said about his last 4 rounds) and Jacobs (gradual improvement) to play on ball.

Salopek could certainly come in to add some composure. Playing him a bit behind the ball to let Pearce and Hartlett play up-field could work.

Hitchcock is the other one I'd like to get another look at for this game. I know people have major reservations about him and they are justified. But we need to find a goal kicking small forward who plays small (and he plays very small!).

Ins:
Logan, Salopek, Hitchcock, Daniel Stewart, Redden

Outs:
Pfeiffer, Wingard, Schulz, Broadbent, Cassisi (sorry skip, time for a rest)

Makes us a bit taller with playing both rucks, but while we lack a dominant ruckman, we have to do this IMO.

Team:
F: Hitchcock........D. Stewart......Westhoff

HF: Young.........Butcher........McCarthy

C: Hartlett.......Boak........Jacobs

HB: Logan........Trengove.......Paul Stewart

B: Surjan.........Carlile.......Chaplin

R: Redden.......Brad Ebert......Rodan

Int: Renouf........Salopek........Cornes........Pearce

I guess that leaves us with a shit looking forward line, but with Gray, Schulz and Wingard out, I think that's a bit inevitable.
