It's probably going to be wet so we will need a smaller team and good ball handlers. Can't go in too big so I lose a big back and Roigh can cover that.

OUT
Jong - not good enough go away
Roberts - as above

IN

Wood
Stevens

also, talls tend to do very well in the 20m test.
It might be too short to accurately gauge how fast a player is
Its probably the most important speed for AFL players though. We all love JJ sprinting 80m down the wing but that first 20m is the most important IMO. Allows you to break from congestion and once youre in space its quicker to move the ball accurately by foot anyway, for talls it allows them to get seperation or close down players on the lead.

That burst speed is extremely important to the way we play and we definitely need to inject some more in the middle I reckon. Once weve got the ball on the outside were so dangerous at spreading and have lots of forwards who do their best work running back towards goals. Just think because we get sucked into the contest a bit too much we sometimes struggle to find that space to get going. Its why Stringer has been so effective in the middle, having someone like that who can break the initial lines out of no where changes everything.

doesnt take much to change the whole speed of your midfield either, like if Jong could bring his VFL form to AFL and Stringer spent just a little more time in there thatd be enough I reckon.

When Dahl comes back id also like to see him transition to a more inside receiver type. I know the way he plays he throws himself at the contest every single time but ideally we want the likes of Wallis/Picken/Libba/Koby to be getting the first hands on the ball type, with Dahl keeping his feet and being that next in line option so he can either close down opposition players or use his elite speed/agility to burst from congestion.

It takes years to develop a standard of depth that some clubs have today and for that you'll need to go back to the drafting strategies in the 2000's to see how its paid off for teams such as Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong. We were never going to be in a position that gives us depth without some pain of tweaking the list, letting some go and getting new blood. The main point is that it takes time to develop.

I'm all for turning over the players who cant reach the required standard however it should be noted that we have nowhere near the standard of depth yet to cover for more than 2 or 3 important/key players being out at a time. We need to have some faith in Dalrymple's drafting strategy who which he's done alright so far. It really hurt our situation in 2012/2013 when GWS were given so many concessions and top players and in a perfect world we've have a number of their current in form players on our list.

Unfortunately we're going to have to continue on the current trend until we're recognised as the "destination club" that the media is starting to call us and frankly, IMO that wont happen until we land a flag. Catch 22

It also hurt during that period we carried players like Ayce Cordy 3 years too long

Agreed. Not sure if many people notice, but Dahl is very clever. If he knows a turnover is about to happen, he will stop it by getting a ball up (by fumbling it and creating the ball up) or out of bounds.

Very clever imo

Stevens has missed too much footy imo. He'll need a stint I n the twos.
I would like Webb to come in instead. He played there last year and I think he more than deserves to be rewarded.
I also think he needs a go in the seniors to truly see how his VFL development is going / has gone. He certainly won't disgrace himself or be a liability.
Clay is probably another two VFL games away from being in contention for selection.

Need to get Bont outside the contest a little and get Suckling up onto a wing.

Hunter to play more behind the ball.

I think we need to keep Jong in the side. He was one of our best players when we beat Sydney at the SCG last year. He even broke his hand on a crucial smother. That game was wet too so we know he is a good wet weather player.

Yeah Stevens wont come straight in. Has to play VFL.
