The bolded bit is the crux of it. The team is selected on merit. If you need to include a qualifying statement like that, then you aren't justifying his selection in the team.

If you'd left it at "his work in the middle has been outstanding", then his position would be fine. Being good, for a kid, is probably not good enough to justify keeping his position at this point in time.
If we're looking at positions purely on merit then he shouldn't be close to the axe.

Dare I say he's clearly out performed our glorious leader playing a similar midfield/flank position?

I can barely be bothered bringing up Porplyzia. Clearly a flicker of form every five weeks is enough to ensure his place.

Its disgraceful. Until we rid ourselves of the gold pass system we will continue to wallow as the great under achiever of the AFL.

We have a player who has been made to do more than earn his spot over almost 2.5 years. He comes in last year shows some good signs and is dropped. Then this year he was outstanding against GWS, very good against North and ok last week. FFS.

Im over the rubbish served up by selectors and the players that clog our best 22.

No too unhappy with the team.

Hendo to have a go on Goodes?

Porp's NEEDS to be the sub. He has been blameless in that role this year.

Good weather this weekend. Looks like we want to go with pace.

I dare say thats why Hendo is in. So he can stay forward and Danger can play in the middle more. If we kept Lyons in as well as Crouch thats just too young a midfield for mine and we would get slaughtered. I dare say Lyons is feeling it after the freo match.

Is Lyons an in for Glenelg?

I'm with you on this.

With question marks over Mackay and Thompson there is no way Reilly and Porps are being dropped. It's not a gold pass. Our 1st quarter vs North Melbourne saw the younger players knocked about a fair bit. We can't afford that vs Sydney.

We all want to see our kids played, but we can't just drop all the experienced guys and bring in kids...... We might get accused of not tanking like Melbourne. .... .... and we'd get thrashed.

Getting thrashed doesn't help anyone develop at all.

If Richmond can win by a lot against Sydney, then they will go into the Richmond game with a lot of confidence and moral. Good luck!:)

No, its far better we keep the gold passes going so we can hold out for 8th this year. We can then launch an assault on 6th next year.

Sorry but thats far too measured to be posted on here. You shouldnt make the angry children in here worse.......

What a load of crock. So it was just the kids who were belted in the first quarter against North? No it wasn't. But do you want to know one player that got us back into the game with a ripper second quarter? Lyons.

Porps will play as the sub. He said he was going to be against Freo until the late change. So how is exactly is Porps experience going to help in this game? And it's not as if Porps played well last week.

Yep I'm thinking this too. We're already, what, the 4th youngest side? There needs to be a balance. It's not like we dropped Lyons for Johncock, it's a pretty straight forward kid for kid swap.

If Mookay misses then I reckon it's Lyons that comes in. If it's Thommo then I reckon it might be Wright.

Why is it inaccurate ?? We need a mature side against Sydney and whilst Lyons has been ok im guessing stronger bodies are required. just cant get over the hissy fits in here.

Well it was a poor post as is yours.

We have just played a top 4 side who are renowned as a dour, contested side and almost beat them. McKay was subbed out anyway and Martin contributed nothing. So you, and the poster you support, think that if we dropped McKay and Martin for McKernan and Crouch, then all of a sudden we go from a side that lost by 7 points to Freo....to a side that is too inexperienced and will be thrashed?

Its a just a ridiculous assertion.

Martin has been dudded by this club over the last couple of years. Honestly, the poor guy has been given next to no chance to show his strengths. I know his disposal stunk last week but he needed to be given at least a couple of full games in a row. As it is, I can't honestly see where his next opportunity can come from. Shame. Think he's now done for at this club. Should have been given Porps' role and Porps dropped.

Mixed reaction. Stoked for Crouch in and Hendo in is good as he is versatile but I am pissed off about Lyons being dropped ahead of underperforming senior players like Porps and Mackay (maybe not senior but he is very close to 100 games). As a previous poster said, he's been our better clearance players in the last few weeks and we drop him against one of the best clearance sides in the comp...

Yeah when we were getting utterly smoked in the second quarter against North our senior midfielders really stood up and turned it around.

... Oh wait, they moved Lyons onto the ball.

Not to mention Sam Kerridge basically pulled that game out of his butt.

I don't agree with kids getting a game just because they're kids - especially when your team is in finals contention. But don't give me the merit argument when you have senior players holding a spot by flickering between useless and serviceable.

He ignored Porps shit form and he alluded to the kids being blown away in the first quarter against North whilst ignoring the failures of the senior players as well.

Strong bodies are require if they are in form, personally I'd prefer a clearance player who has been in good form against a side who are clearance kings. How is Porps going to help?

Very happy Crouch is in. He needed to come back in, regardless of SANFL form.

Glad that Brown wasn't dropped on form (because he didn't deserve to be), although whether the calf injury "saved" him from being dropped anyway is unknown.

Smack in makes sense and I like Hendo but he really needs a role to play instead of just being a little bit of everything.

Lyons out is awful, but if he's back in a couple of weeks for a longer stretch of AFL games then I'll be more okay with it.

Not sure why Mackay isn't being "rested".

Oh and Porps is incredibly lucky.

No but your post ranting and raving about being a rubbish club for so many years reeks of class.........

Mckay should be dropped and IMO wont play Saturday anyway, that im not arguing because hes been largely awful. What ive never understood is jumping to conclusions about certain decisions. Porps hasnt been our worst this year and in fact as sub has been influential, even last wek he was part of our late surge. Lets just wait until 7pm Saturday to make decisions on certain aspects of selections.

Porps plays as a sub which he has been effective in this year, including said North game, and Crouch and Danger play in the guts. Yes Crouch is young but both he and Dolph are very solid bodies

Hey, if your happy with continued failure masked as "the value for money team" then by all means...enjoy.

So we need strong bodies against Sydney? I'd hardly call Porps body a "strong" body at the moment given his dodgy shoulders, shot confidence and complete inability to lay a tackle. He may be a solid unit but that will count for naught due to the aforementioned issues. Meanwhile, we drop one of our better clearance players in recent weeks against a contested ball-focused side:rolleyes:. Lyons isn't a skinny 18 yo, he's got the body to go for a few more weeks yet.

I do take some solace from Phil Harper on FiveAA saying Lyons should be back in a couple of weeks though (won't hold my breath).

More hopeless selection. Great

I'm sure Mackay and Porplyzia will provide plenty of intensity at the contest

Otten will have a magnificent time guarding fresh air too I'd wager

If Lyons comes in for Mackay this is pretty much my preferred line up.

If he doesn't it's very harsh. Reckon he'd be up there with Thommo/Danger for clearance rate.
