Out: Sheridan, Spurr, Suban and Kersten.

In: Langdon, Nyhuis, Fyfe and Balic if available. (Keep Kersten if not)

FB: Nyhuis Hamling Logue
HB: Ryan Johnson Crozier
C: Weller Mundy S. Hill
HF: B. Hill Fyfe McCarthy
FF: Walters Cox Ballantyne

R: Darcy Blakely Neale

I: Langdon, Deluca, Tucker and Balic.

Not sure on Fyfe as a permanent forward. This year aside, he looks great as a midfielder drifting forward especially ghosting from the side of packs. He is not as impressive when stationed permanently with the No.1 key defender. Definitely holds his own which is a great effort as he is undersized but not where I think we get the best out of him. If it is just a structure issue then I think the team is better off with Tabs there and Fyfe in the middle.

Reckon Balic might be short of a gallop but would be happy to see him in if fit. Suspect they will send him through Peel though.

With Spurr, I am sure the leadership factor plays a huge role. I suspect that they think the onfield direction etc outweighs his individual performance. Quite possibly is true too - really hard to quantify as a supporter watching on TV. I actually didn't think he had been that bad this season. Also no way that Kersten played better than him today.

I have never seen Nyhuis play but between the reports on here and his stats according to WAFL he probably deserves a gig soon. Just don't think (for right or wrong) he is getting it at Spurr's expense.
New to bigfooty and trying to steal my buddy away? Nobody is meant to defend Spurr except me! Haha

People remember the two or three spud moments he has, but forgot the other 15 good ones. If he comes out, it only leaves MJ with some experience down there. Nyhuis can get a game by moving Blakely or Weller off half back.

You'll need to queue up to join the Spurr fan club... shouldn't take long to get to the front!

Good buddying MRash. I reckon you're right though. He wasn't too bad. He fluffed a few times, but he's still doing quite a few things right. I don't think you bring someone of his hardness and leadership out too quickly even if we're going the full rebuild. It's about balance and there's a few that would be dropped ahead of him.

It would be a lot easier to predict ins and outs if our weekly injury list wasn't typed by 1000 monkeys on 1000 typewriters. Who really knows if Fyfe or Sandi are fit?
We just have to push on with youth. We only need one of MJ and Spurr to play for the experience factor. Drop Spurr and bring in Hughes. Or drop MJ, play Cox back and bring in Balic.

While I think the Sandi/Darcy combo would be too slow it's worth a crack to see how they work in tandem.

The Sandi/Griff combo didn't work because together they were too slow and Griff really struggled to impact up forward and in the ruck. We didn't get the chance push Sandi forward much because as soon as he was off the bench it was more beneficial to get him back in the ruck to give us an edge.

If we went 50/50 with Sandi/Darcy firstly Darcy would be more effective for longer and secondly we would be able to leave Sandi forward for greater periods being comfortable with Darcy in the ruck. We need a big boy up forward that demands Carlisle to cover them. Frees up McCarthy to get an opponent that isn't towering over him.

I would love to swap Kersten for Tabs aswell just so we can get McCarthy into the 3rd tall role.

Walters - Taberner - Deluca
McCarthy - Darcy - Ballas

1 of Tabs or Darcy/Sandi will get a good mismatch.

I like that lineup as well but it means we'd have to drop Cox as well as Kersten.

It really comes down to whether or not we are willing to play both Darcy and Sandilands in the same team.

You have it basically exactly backwards.

The quality of our forward 50 entires looks shocking because we have no forward structure. You can't expect every entry to be a lace out pass to a lead. Most entries are going to be to a contest. You need people in the forward line who can win those contests.

Or at least bring it to ground for 3 of the better crumbing forwards around in Ballaz Walters and Croz

I would also like to see the Darcy/Sandi combo next week but acknowledge that we already have a lack of pressure problem in the forward line and the selection would not help. Really don't know how we will go after the continual Sandi/ Griff failures.

At this point Sandi would only need to take two marks inside attacking fifty to be our biggest target and a huge improvement.

If he took a mark a quarter inside attacking fifty it would be the great moment of reborn hope and if he wasn't so strong in the ruck is where a lesser player would be required to grow their game to keep their spot in a rebuilding team.

Playing the two ruckmen not working is a little bit about Sandi not being much use anywhere else and a little bit about the other ruckman being the same.

Making a choice between 1st ruck would be so much easier if the relief ruck/forward was Sandilands. It would be such a nightmare for opposition coaches.

One can dream.

Play them both I reckon. Most other teams don't play two rucks so our two could give us a big clearance advantage. I don't see how a pinch hitter could handle Darcy or Sandi for that matter. We could have a weapon combo on our hands, we should at least try it.
What we lose in forward pressure (what?, I can't believe I just wrote that), we will more than make up for in clearances and forward line presence.

Darcy isn't Sandilands, not the same type of player, Darcy is so much more mobile. How many times did he do more
than just tap, get a quick kick out of the centre, next time the forwards should be more aware.
As for playing two ruck/forward, eagles have been playing combo's for years and have a fantastic home record.
The real disappointment for me was Sherro, a poor mans BHill, needs a fresh start somewhere else to have some career.
Thumbs up for Suban, have a feeling that some players need to be dropped, kept on their toes, to get them to perfom at
their best. Finding form in the two's with players out of touch, is much better than hoping they will find form.

I not sure about suban , remember how well sherriden perform in his first match after JLT Vs bulldog. We call it the dropping surge

Yes you are probably right, but we need a Suban in the team to tag, slow the game down and help others look
better.
A Suban, Grey, Deluca, do the grunt work, enjoy the physical side of the game.
We are a better team when we fire up, some of our best games were when Balla, Crowley, niggling away at the
opposition.

You most probably right , but I think once grey is back and deluca injury is not serious . The combo of grey and deluca playing FF/mid to rotate with each other will be great. freo need to play suban from now onwards and let go of sherriden and sutty .

The thing that shits me about Spurr is that he seems to go to ground everytime he gathers the loose ball or just aimlessly tries to kick it long and turns it over. I can't question his leadership and organisation down back but his skills leave a lot to be desired. His marking seems to have waned over he years as well.

Not enough being said about Sheridan. He has to go and for good. Absolutely useless. Bring Nyhuis in.

Crozier and Kersten should be in the firing line as well. Logue and Ryan, whilst I am happy to persist with them for the greater good, they'll just need to start showing a bit more.

Just on Logue, did we stuff that pick up?

Too much pressure on Darcy. OK it was an impressive debut as a ruckman to fill in for an injured Sandi, but to be already talking about him as a forward is too much.

Sandilands forward is not the answer either. I mean come on, in 250+ games and 15 seasons, when has he ever dominated as a forward? For all his size he doesn't make many marks, he doesn't read the play well enough and is often caught out of position at the drop of the ball. He averages 3.6 marks per game (less than 1 mark per quarter) over his entire career. He is not the sort of guy who is going to turn our fortunes around by standing in the goal square and playing to his weakness.

If we are going to drop Kersten maybe it should be for a more mobile medium size player, with good skills and smarts. That changes up the structure a bit, but it might upset the balance for a lack of talls.
ummm. Darcy's been playing forward/ruck at Peel for weeks and kicking goals?

He actually kicked most of those goals whilst being in the ruck. Which is kind of more impressive when you think about it :)

If we are willing to throw Cox in the ruck then I don't see why we couldn't try Darcy at ruck/fwd when Sandi comes back, in this rebuild year.

Haha, point taken. Spurr is a spud, should play anyone else instead. Dawson or Tabs to back pocket.

Spurr is definitely down this year, but still better than given credit for here I think.

Zac Dawson has been kicking goals for Peel too.

I just don't think dropping an actual forward and replacing him with a rookie ruck/forward is going to result in any sudden improvement in our fortunes. I think it is asking a bit too much. If a full-time forward is struggling to get into the game and fit into the structure and game plan (if we've even got one) then I don't think that problem can be solved by changing him out for a part-timer.
