Regarding the fuss about home games - and I think someone earlier in the thread may have alluded to this but I’m not sure - does anyone else not think that this is the sort of ‘us vs them’ thing that can actually galvanise the team? I mean looking at our finals performances, attitude hasn’t exactly been a major positive for us. For decades the Queensland origin side - even during their 8 consecutive wins - would find a way to ‘manufacture’ a storyline in which they were somehow the hated underdogs with the world against them and routinely it saw them win. They did the same thing when they had bog ordinary sides and were still able to conjure wins.

I don’t really see how this could be a negative for the playing group. All they will see is an opportunity to ‘stick it up em’ as EJ would say

No totally agree on siege mentality. Everyone is against us. The reality is they are though. The AFL would prefer to see us lose Friday to go along with the three interstate finals. Perfect.

Yep- agree- can’t beat ‘em ( re venue etc), so may as well join them by embracing the whole ‘us v them’ thing. It’s heaps of fun once you go down that path!

Didn't see it, but have read his comments in the latest article on Fox Sports highlighting our woeful finals record.

It's hard to understand the nuance of the written word, but his comments do seem to have a 'sameness' about them..... He's defiant, different team, we're 'working on things', etc.

But, for my own enjoyment, I'm going to watch this game with a positive sense of anticipation, and a large dash of hope.

If we win, I'll respect what Scott has done with the combined talents, foibles and limitations of this playing group.

But on the flip side, I'll be immensely disappointed, and somewhat angry internally if we yet again bow out without a whimper.

No matter right now though..... The die is already cast, and virtually nothing will now alter the outcome. So sit back, buckle up, and smile....... Cos it just could be one hell of a ride

Mixed message from Chris Scott here; on the one hand he speaks of the club 'trying to live in the moment' and yet he can't help but forecast that 'we'll be a better team next year'.

I don't like it. Giving himself a bit of a loophole to sneak through if the club fails to impress (again) this September.
I can almost hear him saying it now: "I always thought we'd play our best football in 2020 as opposed to 2019."

Also, quick reality check Chris: yes, the club will be defined by what happens over the next month; people will 'choose' to do that.

I'd rather he focus on winning a GF this year from the position he's put them in. At the end of 2014, after having blown another top 4 finish and gone out in straight sets, he also boldly proclaimed that Geelong's best was still better than the grand finalists'. The following year, Geelong did not make finals at all. It's a constant cycle of underselling the here and now, anticipating failure, but then selling hope for the future to keep people buying in. No one at the club or outside it should care about next year right now. Flags don't come often, and now we have another shot at one. Next year we could be bottom four for what anyone knows. We've blown four top 4 finishes under him; let's see if the fifth yields anything more. He's here pumping people up for his sixth look at it since 2011 already, though. At what point should we actually expect a top 4 finish to pay off?

Sorry but I must have missed the announcement of Kelly being traded - thought that was still only speculation on a slow news day

And as for the other bunch of players retiring, whom are said players - I haven't seen any official annoucements of Geelong player retirements.

While that group of players going into their 30s, we currently have 5 players who will turn 30 either before or just after the start of next season - but there's a good chance only 2 or 3 of them are even on our list next year. As it stands, only 2 of them have actually been regular players so far this year, so not sure it's a major issues actually

If you watch Scott and selwood’s interviews this week-they both look calm, relaxed, comfortable in themselves. No arrogance or overconfidence-just in a good place. Like what I am seeing for what it’s worth. Reckon they think we have a really good chance.

Scotts has had enough finals campaigns that he has bombed us out in spectacular fashion - if he hasn't learnt something then he is worse than I thought. The guy talks in riddles but fails to produce - the worst type. We better smash the Colliwobbles.

This could be possible.. but IMO much like the TK leaving "news" its poorly timed, this is too and while I like the enthusiasm is it really necessary to be talking 2020 now?

Its a hiding to nothing. We lose and its the "eyes not on the prize speech" or the "CS is already worried about 2019 and has moved on"

If we win this week he gains nothing by the comment, only to have it be brought up if we lose the week after.

Just seems like no gain from it and downside aplenty.

I have posted also that I agree that the comments about 2020 are unneccessary and of no value at this time.
