Collingwood are anything but shoe-ins, are they in trouble?

Really interesting to watch what happens with Collingwood's 30 year olds from here.

All of them listed with ages next year:

  • Pendlebury (38) obviously still good enough but if he starts getting calves then the end could come fast
  • Howe (35) wasn't good tonight but still had an ok year when fit
  • Sidebottom (35) had a great year, seems like plenty in the tank
  • Cox (35) is presumably just about done but isn't best 22 anyway
  • Elliott (33) has kicked 60, still seems to have heaps in the tank
  • Mihocek (33) still ok but probably a bad time to be out of contract
  • Mitchell (32) is presumably done and not best 22
  • Hoskin-Elliott (32) already retired but was out of the side anyway
  • Crisp (32) still going pretty well
  • Membrey (31) had a solid season
  • McStay (30) isn't exactly setting the world on fire
  • Cameron (30) is still top quality, has years left
  • Moore (30) not necessarily his best season but still quality
  • De Goey (30) needs to find a way to get on the park consistently

Any opinions on how they'll go from here?

With Collingwood's list profile, they would rank 18th for me, on the list you'd want to have going into 2026 and beyond. I'd rather have Richmond's, North Melbourne's and even West Coast list right now, looking forward for 3-5 years than Collingwood. Surely, they have to fall off a cliff.

They could drop off, or they could refresh a bit around Daicos. I thought the Cats were gone a few different times in the last 10 years or so but they've kept finding kids and topping up with pensioners. Maybe the Pies do the same.

This isn't the NBA though, where a great player is 1 out of 5, and you just build a team around Michael Jordan, or a Shaq. He's only 1 out of 18. They're about to fall off the almightiest of cliffs IMO.

Lost this game at selection unfortunately.

Mihocek, Howe, Pendlebury (Should have pulled out in the warm-up), Sidebottom on Mccgluggae (Horrid from Fly) and playing Cox on Andrews.

I think they push a few out now. Elliott and Mihocek 100% gone and i would say Bobby is 50/50 at best to be there.

Over achieved with this list this year and the two best teams for the year are in the GF.

Elliot the only 30+ I’d keep

The rest were pathetic

Scott Pendlebury has just announced his retirement
