Perhaps the '96 win was a good omen, I was born a few hours after the game.

I obviously haven't experienced a premiership yet and by God I ******* wanna win one!

I'm feeling Neanderthal reading that RB. Having sat in the mighty 'G for all four of our premierships, I can assure you the wait will be worth it.

98 GF. We'd bought our first house. Entire place had its floorboards ripped up to re-stump. Piles of dirt all through and inside the house. Shit everywhere. Sleeping in the very back room (shoebox). Downed tools, got a beer and watched on a tiny portable TV sitting on a mattress on the floor........I don't need to mention the goal kicking accuracy. Flattest day of my life.

It was also the time of the Longford gas explosion, for those who can remember that. For those who can't, Melbourne had no gas (or hot showers!) for a few weeks. I worked for one of the oil companies at the time, and got a phone call in my seat at the 'G during the half time break, advising that LPG rationing was being introduced immediately. I spent the next half hour phoning ten million servos, instructing them to infuriate their gas customers for the next month.

And then the second half happened. Truly shit day.

Bloody oath I remember that CG. I'd been living in my then new house for a few months and had forgotten the little details which become major ones in a time of crisis. It was a freezing cold late Winter and the very early morning showers with ice cold water was torture. Then things were back eventually and we had some family over one night. We were chatting about the arctic showers we'd all been having to endure and my cousin, a sparky, wandered off to the bathroom. He returned with a grin and said "You f***ing idiot, you have electric hot water and could've been having hot showers all along you dickhead!"

WAT?

He was right. F***!

Then the GF happened (apparently), but I've erased that horror from my bonce for good.

Classic lol

I rigged up a copper coil that ran through my BBQ to have hot showers. Worked a treat, but showering in the back yard was a campaigner.

Used to have real showers when hungover though. Nothing blows out the cobwebs like a freezing shower on a freezing day.

Holly shit I'd forgotten about all those cold showers.

What a basterd that was

I still can't remember it. I'm still getting over the '94 prelim and the '98 grand final. My psychiatrist assures me that I'm "doing well" and "coming along nicely".

Interesting response from Dal on the Footy Show when asked who wins the Grand Final?Emphatically said he can't see how Hawthorn can lose. To be honest the way he said it, led me to believe he was a bit pissed and bitter about how West Coast got there (umpiring ..... cough...cough)?

Maybe I am reading something into it more than it was, but you would normally think he would have been complimentary to West Coast since they had just beaten us?

I have a feeling that like us the players might be a bit miffed at the shenanigans that took place last Saturday night.
I believe that if I am as pissed off as what I am over last week then the players must be absolutely filthy on it. It should stick with them over the break and drive us to bigger and better things next season.

Classic TT!

I remember that also - my parents filled up the kettle about 50 times, tipped it in the bath and that was how you got clean for those few weeks.

'94........Cats fans had G.F. in the bag. Ahem....
'98........We backed up '99.

( thinking of it that way helps :) )

You sound like my psychiatrist. How much do I owe you?

Rebound 50 I think.

Makes sense, thanks.

Of all the regular defenders, Sam Wright and Spud were very good rebounders, Thompson, Tarrant and JMac were good and Atley was relatively poor - if I'm reading it right.

Never mind the umpires, I am still shitty about some of the kicking of our forwards. In particular drew, but also Waite and browns marking. That game was a real lost opportunity. I hope the players weren't too forgiving too early and stuck it too them a little. Better set shots and we are right in that gamw.

Black Bastinac and Mullett played "integral" roles in 2014..umm that would be a no.
Higgo, Waite and Garns this year were massive upgrades.

I agree they have been upgrades, but it's rewriting history to say Black, Bastinac and Mullett weren't a big part of the team's performance in 2014. They were. Good, informed article.
