HAWTHORN has given a rare insight into the science behind building its "premiership model".

Chris Pelchen, general manager of player personnel and strategy, outlined the Hawks' exhaustive player rating system at a function in Canberra this week.

A detailed summary of the talk was posted on the internet by one of the 50 fans who attended.

Pelchen revealed the Hawks rate all 640 players in the league three times each year, with the formula showing which clubs are in the premiership window.
He said Hawthorn's premiership window was the next five to six years - with West Coast, Collingwood and Geelong the other main contenders.

Just like to say congratulations to the Hawk fan who posted that stuff on here a couple of days ago. Something that was supposed to have stay in house has now be put out there and you can bet that if things go wrong in the next 12-36 months that the stuff leaked will be brought up by just about every media outlet. Hope it was worth it matey.

*Unfortunately I can't find the original thread but do hope that someone else might be able to link it into this thread.

Uh..you do realise that ANYONE was allowed to attend that meeting that pelchin talked about all this stuff, that has been stated by people attending this meeting, was open to the public, wasnt like you had to flash your membership cards to get in.

+the article was on mightyhawk before bigfooty, if any club was serious about finding infomation, its not like its top secret stuff.
anyways, mark stevens obviously has stolen an article from big-footy, congrats! im glad out members can do your work for you.

Clearly not one of the Hawthorn fans here, because all they do is embarrass themselves and their club by posting idiotic troll threads about teams better than them like North and Geelong.

There is a board for sniping and that's Bay 13. This board is for informative posting only. Troll where it's appropriate mate.

Now on the subject at hand, Pelchen has already discussed his system in the past. This isn't anything really new but is an interesting read. Also note that he presented ratings for mid-year and past teams. Unless you can link player's names to their relevant category, it doesn't offer too much sensitive information.

:confused::confused: In house?

Unless this was an in house function I think you need to be a bit more realistic in your assessment

Gee, we just can't EVER seem to do things as professionally as that football juggernaut Richmond. Oh well, one day we'll learn, and we too can be as powerful as the mighty tigers.

The thread was closed - thankfully the HS article didn't mention the more sensitive info.

It was open to the members of the public.
Those invited were not from the "inner sanctum"

Do you really think that posting that on the internet hurt or disadvantaged the club?

Seriously, if there was anything confidential brought up in the talk, Pelchin would have either:
A) Not said it in the first place
B) Got everyone attending to sign an NDA

Seriously kiddies, nothing else to post about over school holidays?

You seem to take a keen interest in Hawthorn-related matters.

Anyway, didn't a Richmond poster a few years back post info from a 'secret' meeting where Greg Miller outlined his stategy for the upcoming draft?

It is hardly 'Top Secret' you idiot! All clubs (except probabl;y richmond) rate players and possibel drafties.

I think it is very funny indeed that you think "oh my good the whole world knows":eek:

Richmond could probabley learn from it but even at my Amateur club we rate opposition players.

Geez mate you must be really really dumb

I cant believe they need science to work out this formula?
Way too much money wasted on this trivial crap!
They would be embarassed by this, not for it getting out, but for what they actually do!!

From a supporter of a club that wasted top ten picks on Ryan Fitzgerald and Jarrad McVeigh. :thumbsu:

So it was open to the public yet not one reporter managed to go to the event even though it was held up in Canberra during draft camp where a host of football media would be.

Also what is the difference between the Hawks realising this and Wallace releasing the same info about Richmonds list last year, stating that he saw Richmond entering their window of opportunity around 2011. Pechen has stated the Hawks window of opportunity is in the next 5-6 years.

Do you guys who have had a go at me realise that this will be brought up in the media time and again over the next few years if the Hawks are struggling to make the 8.

Im not trying to have a go at you 'Tiger', but I dont see what all the fuss is about?
After conducting all thier science and using complicated formulas, they have concluded that the Hawks have a finals 'window' of opportunity, within the next 5 or 6 years??
Hold The Press!
You would hope all 16 clubs have this goal!

We didnt pick them from using science!!
Fitzy got injured, McVeigh would be in the first 18 at Hawthorn, whats your point?

Precisely. :)

Sorry I'm a tad baffled by this thread.

How does this info getting out hinder the hawks chances of winning/help other teams work us out?

Are the other AFL teams going to get their players to play like cr@p so we rate them lower thus giving us a false sense of security with our chances?

Some people think so!

That was purely to protect his FIVE YEAR contract!

Seriously go win some games of football, get a real coach, get a real recruiting department, get a real forward line and then come back on here and start running your mouth.

P.S Congrats on a great year. Love the Autosignature too - Richmond to make the 8 in 08. Is that 3008 - part of Wallace's millenium premiership window?

He rated his top 5 in the draft, we have pick 12: Gave away a lot there....

Said we still had three positions to fill in our list: Didn't say what, or how, or why.

Rated other teams premiership sides, and gave his opinion on how many A graders we need etc.

It all went on like that...... was a good read but nothing more, and Pelchen spoke pretty well from all accounts.

What a rubbish article.
