Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

And for the record, I don’t like that we look set to hand over our end of R1 priority pick when the Hawthorn R2 pick (probably 38) should be sufficient.

But it’s a free pick quite possibly/probably given on the understanding it would be handed over for Starcevich - it’s the AFL’s solution to us requesting an exemption from FA compensation being diluted

If we’re lucky we might be able to get back one of the late R3 picks Brisbane hold (they have 4) which have zero points value which could come in used with other deals or matching a bid on Banfield
What if we give Brisbane the PP for starcivich + 45 then trade 45 for young 🤔

That way the PP has got us 2 x best 22 players exactly what the afl would have wanted

I saw one talking about pick swaps but didn't see anything specifically talking about Ryan for an F3

Thats crazy. Just keep him disgruntled if thats the offer. Won't believe it till it happens
I don't know why you think it is so unbelievable that that has been St Kilda's starting point or openning offer.

Doesn't mean we have accepted it or will accept it. But when you look at who we are dealing with (Lyon and Silvagni), how little draft capital they have left, how many players they are still chasing with that very limited draft capital such as Flanders and Aleer (both of whom will be higher priority targets for them than Ryan) it is very believable that that is what they are trying to offer us.

They know they probably can't get all the targets the have left. If they have to leave one they would probably prefer to leave Ryan. But after sweet talking him and waving the cheque book at him they can't just withdraw the offer to him and walk away. So you make an offer the other side can't possibly accept and then you can at least try and pretend the falling over of the trade was the other sides fault. That looks better than just walking away. And maybe, just maybe the other side does grudgingly accept for whatever reason and you get the player for basically nothing.

2025-2026 Jack Steele is not better than Harley Reid, he’s not even better than a half fit Elliot Yeo.

I don’t blame any of you for barely watching Saints games, but trust me he’s absolutely useless for the majority of games, he’s reactionary not proactive, he’s slow, he can’t kick, he doesn’t hurt you, he’s useless outside of stoppages and not even very impactful in them.

His own club has stripped him off the captaincy and is forcing him out just as they finally look like fielding a competitive team.
"Stripped him of the captaincy"?
Ok

Why are we adding a pick for a washed limited midfielder whose club wants rid of?
Two clubs with vastly different needs. Saints clearly looking to try and push into the 8 and or top 4 and are going all out to try and achieve this.
West coast looking to develop young players.
Steele is a perfect fit for us and not necessarily for the Saints any longer.
Apples and oranges the needs of both clubs.

If Steele doesn't want to come then he doesn't want to come. If the club already spoke to him and got shut down before they even got to first base in making a pitch to him then that doesn't sound like that something that is close enough to the line to be able to be pushed over with more sweet talk or money.

Maybe he has a business over there. Maybe his wife refuses to consider any interstate move. I know i have mates in Melbourne who want to move back to WA but they married a Victorian bird who doesn't want to move away from her extended family. Maybe he has elderly parents at the end of their life who he doesn't want to move away from.

At the end of the day if the answer is a very hard but polite No (which it sounds like it was) then we just need to move on.

Because there's "initial" offers and there's taking the absolute piss being borderline insulting

A single F3 is the latter. We simply walk away and dont even engage if that's the case

Like I said I havent seen it reported anywhere other than "pick swaps" have been discussed.

Too true.

Tim English for example wanted to come back and play for us, but his partner wouldn’t have any of it. Literally started crying every time the topic came up.

Exactly. Ryan Steele straight swap. They're pushing him out and chasing a contracted player.
Steele doesn't want to come to us unfortunately.

He would be a perfect fit for a couple of years .

Doesn't mean we should give ryan away for **** all if all we can get is saints F2 then we package that up with our other later pick and try a 3 way trade with saints and GC.

Wce Out ryan 23 37
In pick 8

Saints out 8 f2stk
In flanders ryan

Gc out flanders
In 23 37 f2 stk

Values flanders around pick 11 - 12

Brissy want pick 16 for Starcevich

Eagles but expected to pursue Steele.

Starcevich not worth that.

I expect Brisbane will settle for a second-rounder. Otherwise, we should just let Allen go to them as an FA and forget about Starcevich.

They can **** right off, pull the PP offer. Starcevich stays there or comes via PSD. They know we’ll match a band 2 offer for Oscar so they’ll make sure it’s band 1 if they genuinely want him. His name has been dragged through the mud over this, will piss off his management and other managers will take notice.

Give Coxy a call at the Swans and maybe even see if Collingwood have the space to make him a band 1 offer.

Then bid on Annable to force Brisbane to pay top dollar for him.

I reckon Ramrod would love to take OA, if they’ve been keen on Curnow then why not take a player he knows for nothing?

Starcevich thing looks like a pretty weak bluff from the Lions to me.

I doubt they could afford to keep him even on his current salary given the money they have to find for the free agents coming in plus other players wanting a pay rise. And he is obviously worth more than what they are currently paying him.

Starcevich could help us out by telling the Lions if they don't strike a deal with us he is still leaving as a free agent to whichever club offers him the most money. In which case they will get nothing. A bit less grating than threatenning your old club with PSD. But Brisbane will get the point - take pick 21 from WCE or get nothing.
