Not knowing the intricacies of this draft makes this somewhat moot, but bundling up 17, 24, 38 (1777 points) to Gold Coast for Pick 7 (1543 points) makes too much sense to not do it.

Hitting a draft with 1, 2, 7 is too good of a platform to turn down.
1 2 7 looks good - we get Duursma Sharp and Cumming. Solve our midfield

Alternatively we split 2+17 for 5+6 then bundle up the Ryan F2 from Saints with Chesser plus 24 and 38 for 10. Hit the draft with 1 5 6 10. Gets us Duursma Sharp (fallback Robey), Schubert and Cumming.

Or we split and stay put. 1 5 6 24 38 gets us Duursma Sharp Cumming Curtin and hold 38 if needed on Tyler or bank forward on draft night and we have future value in Chesser and Ryan trades.

Each year we get out bid on the Suns picks. I’d like to trade up but not for their usual premium. Besides, it will depend on the Petracca deal.

Unless you want CDT (and I’ve heard Bomber do), the draft looks pretty even from 3 to 10. There will also be some decent options in the 10-20 range and another grouping in the 20 to 30 range.

All over 350 -500 points?

That's what the Lions are holding out for here.

We bid 1 or 2 on Annable and we wipe out those points.

That's all the Lion's need to work out and stop being dicks.

They already know this. But are being dicks.
This post made me think of the dicks, pussies and arseh*le scene from Captain America. Not sure if West Coast is the pussies or arseholes in this scenario, but hopefully we ain’t getting ****ed by the dicks.

He used the same lines last year right before he dropped the baker bomb. We've got the worst negotiator in the comp - trade period is scary.
Do people actually think negotiating is like haggling over the price of potatoes at the local market?
That Clarke walks into the negotiating room and gets sweet talked into a bad deal?

More likely what happens is Eagles & Brisbane reps go into the meeting with what they want to give/receive in a trade, which would have been discussed and agreed in consultation with a larger team (Clarke, Massey, Shepard, Mini, Pyke, Woosha).

Unless their expectations align, the reps walk away from the meeting and consult with their team. Back & forth it goes.

For all we know, Brisbane asked for a guarantee that we don't bid. We refused to agree, so Brisbane are demanding better draft picks instead.

It could be us that are the d*cks in this?

If I was satisfied Sharp would be there at 5 I'd be talking to the Bombers, but it seems unlikely he's the one that slides.

Parking the Allen stuff for a moment...

If you could choose between trading up for GC first pick or trading down to grab Bombers first two picks, which are you choosing?

The former for me. Duursma, Sharp and a slider, even if it's CDT. Think if we put that pairing together at 1 and 2 we can afford to go speculative with the next pick.
Should definitely be prioritising trading up, we have more than enough picks as it is. However I'd go for another mid and leave CDT, there's every chance he takes a little while to develop and then after 3 years gets impatient and requests a trade back to Vic. I'd rather go for Walsh the WA boy in a couple of years who sounds like a better long term prospect anyway.

life is like a rodeo

Clarke said yesterday pick 23 is around the mark and Twomey has said 23 has been "tabled"

Indicates to me its been offered. Why are you saying it hasn't?
Twomey said West Coast offered their second round pick, not the priority pick.

Which is what I’ve been saying all along.

I’ve tried avoiding the actual number, because the picks keep moving out as more compensation picks are given out.

It's one pick difference.

So Saints yesterday.

"We haven't had any discussions with West Coast RE Ryan."

So they approached a contracted player.

Got him over for a medical.

Both player and Saints stated they want to do a trade.

But haven't bothered talking to the club that has him under contract until 2026?

Sounds like something Brisbane would do.

A tad rude IMO.
Not with you on pairing the SOS/Gubby duo with Brisbane.

SOS in particular is in a league with Dodoro. Look where the Carlton and Bombers lists are at. They try to play the bigdick game and actually do their clubs a disservice.

Gubby was caught out on day 1 saying they had not talked with Geelong and Andrew stated the opposite.

I was very happy to hear Matty say it’s got to be a deal we like as we are very happy with Liam playing for us next season.

Saint Blunders - it’s up to you.

Personally I see the offer for Flanders more appropriate at 17 plus later points compared to 8 with something coming back. 17 + Ryan + what for 8? We could pay some of Liam’s salary as part of what. Could it be 24? From 8 - Saints get 24 Flanders (using just 17) plus Ryan.

We just need Walter to want to join the exodus (and want to move back to Perth)
Give me a good mid over Walter any day. What he'd cost vs what he's accomplished isn't worth it at this stage of our rebuild
Take Curtin with an early second rounder if you're desperate for a kpf
Rogers would fit our midfield perfectly

It's not quite comparable. They don't have a second round pick, which is what would be needed to get Ah Chee in the door.

Brisbane would want more than 47
And Brisbane don't want future picks because they need points .

Adelaide would do well to keep their first rounder . There will be some very good SA lads still on the table at their pick

Fine mate we'll offer you pick 22 then, happy?

Brisbane’s concern is if we lodge the Allen paperwork first, West Coast can the turn around, wait for the compensation to be granted, then say, “we are only going to offer pick 37 for Starcevich, it’s take it or we walk him to the PSD”.
Have you heard the offer West Coast given yet? I thought they have offered pick #23 (I could be wrong)?

If so, that would allay any Brisbane fears of the pick turning into pick#37.

In which case, what would be stopping them from doing the deal for pick #23 yet?

EDIT - I just read the last few pages of posts so just ignore the first question and focus on the last question in this post.

That's already overpaying for a guy witb his concussion history who would also go for free to any other club and especially when we hold pick one in the PSD and the ability to bid on Annable at 1. Brisbane should be taking our 2nd and running.

Lol Walter won the GF sprint he is a beast we would be set for 10 years with Walter and shanahan. Like Hawkins and Cameron

Curtin would still be running he is jack williams MK2

Happy to take Rogers but he is a tiny 172cms mid like kosy without the forward craft

It's not compulsory to trade it, and we have the pick immediately after it. Also we need to do what it takes to improve our position more than Brisbane do. You get that right?
I do. And I’ve said similar on our board.

My club is trying to do the best for my club.

Your club is trying to do the best for your club.

Ideally we’d prefer to keep both Starcevich (and Ah Chee), but we can’t afford to match the offers of other clubs.
