News DBJ, Hayes & Marshall Sign On

The Marshall signing feels like a great get. Kids just emerging, and weve been able to lock him away before and major performance rise, and after the tragedy he went through last year. Hopefully its a good sign he intends to be a 1 club player.

DBJ is a stunner!
Marshall has a long way to go, but promising.
Don’t know much about Hayes.

Happy days.

Brilliant news. So excited to watch Marshall develop because I'm loving what I've seen so far. To start the year I had DBJ out of my best 22 but if he plays like he did on Saturday for most weeks, he will be one of the first picked. His sweeping of the midfield and crashing through the contests coming off the back was superb.

It's good that we've noted that Hayes needs time to develop. We have had issues developing rucks recently with the failures of Harvey and Shaw (even though Shaw was more a KPF), not to mention that if he showed anything over the next 12 months and didn't re-sign, a bunch of Victorian clubs would have been ringing his manager trying to bring him back 'home.' Given we're re-signing him before he's even played a game, his salary will be next to nothing which is a positive. Additionally, for hypothetical's sake, let's say he did want to leave in 2 years time, we'd have put in 2 years of development into a long term prospect without getting a return. Keeping him for 4 years will allow us to make a 100% determination as to whether this kid is going to hack it as a ruck in the AFL, and if he is, there's no way our footy department will let him go.

So who’s left to re-sign this year? Ollie is the big one obviously.

And Atley. Though with our inside mid depth he might need to seek greener pastures.

I could definitely see him linking up with his brother at Norf next year.

Both Robbie and Travis are on the wrong side of 30. Given a few games last year and obviously there's wines that has to make a decision. He's already had a few games last year and it's not often 2nd year players want out especially on a team contending.

Boak is old, robbie is old. There will be a spot in the side for atley soon enough

Neither Boak or Robbie are true inside mids anymore though. They spend the majority of their time up forward. Atley is a true inside mid, and would be playing a completely different role to Robbie and Boak if he came into the side.

I would say Atley is competing for a spot against Ollie, Ebert, SPP, Rockliff and Barry (only Barry if they want an inside mid over an outside mid for matchup purposes). Doubt Atley plays much this year unless there are injuries.
