There's overs then there's ridiculous....

Not sure what is ridiculous about asking for a top 20 pick for a 195cm KPD who is now 23 and was originally drafted at pick 16 in 2006 and has since showed that he can perform at AFL level and has 50 games experience under his belt under the guidance of one of the best fullbacks in the last decade.

How has his value declined in your mind?

The fact that he's been constantly injured, 50 games is a disappointing amount for someone that's been on a list for 6 years, and quite frankly he isn't good enough to warrant giving pick 13 for.

Agree. We should have rested Glass and Kerr more often IMO especially against the minnows. Shame it's come to this.

Brown leaving gives us the opportunity to get a high draft to grab a decent midfielder.

Brown + Stevens for 12 + Cripps?

17 for Wellingham?

3rd rounder for Pears?

I like it, but not sure Essendon will give up Pears for a third rounder...

Just out of interest, what will be our compo pick for Lynch?

No that I rate Dawes (but keeping in mind what he has shown in the past), and given the loss of Lynch and now Brown, is it worth packaging up Wellingham and Dawes for our first pick, a la Melbourne's offer?

I think Brown is a very good player. Just not as good as Glass Team balance means you can't fit him into the side. If he goes I will be quite disappointed; apt replacement for when Glass quits.

OK, so here's a question. You're all saying that he is going to replace Glass, but Glass doesn't play at FB on the "gorillas" any more, does he? Whereas Brown is more likely to be suited to FB from what I've seen (of he and Nathan Brown).

If that is the case, you really only need someone like say Tayte Pears, who could play that "3rd key defender" role that Glass seems to be playing. I reckon he'd be better at that than Brown anyway, wouldn't he? Whatever you get for Brown you could then on-trade to Essendon for Pears, if he is up for grabs, which I imagine he would be.

One thing is for sure and that is that if your recruiting staff are in any way competent, they will find someone else suitable by the end of trade week/s to replace Brown, if he does in fact leave. There are also some very good options looming in the draft that you could target to develop as back-up for Schofield, MacKenzie and Pears. You could also get someone from the state leagues to be immediate back-up for the next year or so, on top of Pears and whoever you get in the draft.

This "if we lose Brown we'll have no back-up" stuff shows very little faith in your recruiting staff.

Lynch is not a loss. His best days at our club were truly behind him and now McInnes can step up as the next generation of KPP players. Dawes would only stifle the progress of McInnes/McGovern/Wilson.

And I'm guessing we would need our first pick to secure a midfielder - certainly a more pressing issue. The loss of Ebert, Stevens and Swift and hence our flailing midfield depth needs to be rectified this year - Cripps and pick 18 will help offset those losses. Our recruiters would have to be geniuses to sign Kane Lucas too without us trading away pick 18. We can only hope.

Shame he's nominated StK, the only was I was open to seeing him traded was for mini-draft pick no.2.

Huge loss given the word that he might have been Lynch's replacement up forward for the short term.

Mitch Brown is still Mitch Brown. It's been 6 years and he's not a regular. He's had one decent patch of footy (late 2009) and a few decent games, which weren't good enough for him to retain his spot.

If he wants out send him to the Saints for Cripps and their 2nd for Brown and our 3rd (or the Josh Fraser pick).

Glass doesn't play on the gorillas - but the 'third tall' is a myth.

Glass takes the next best forward, the resting ruckman or if there are no other tall options, may even take a Eddie Betts or the like - though that is rare.

The only other person we have capable of taking a taller person is Will Schofield - who just isn't tall enough - and is better as a running defender.

Mitch Brown will take the Glass role and be our 2nd best key defender

Schofield is the third tall, Glass and MacKenzie rotate through FB / CHB generally. Brown would have stepped into CHB if Glass was gone.

If they aren't willing to stay and fight for a spot in the 22, I don't want them. The idea of giving fringe players games simply to keep them here is not a good one when we're pushing for a premiership.

Usually a fairly good indication of what someone is worth is going by what the "neutrals", who have no interest in pumping someone's tyres up, have to say about them. Suggestions that Brown is worth a pick in the teens are being laughed at mercilessly on the trading board by those who don't follow West Coast or St Kilda and don't care either way. They're the same ones laughing at the suggestion that Dawes is worth pick 13.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out, though.

The fact that none of them were good enough to secure a spot in a team that didn't make a prelim probably tells you they aren't the stars that some on here rate them as.
