FREMANTLE

ANDREW SIEGERT (out of contract)
DYLAN SMITH (delisted)
TROY COOK (out of contract)
SHANE PARKER (out of contract)
DANIEL GILMORE (out of contract)
*Two other players out of contract

Are the two others:
DANIEL HAINES
DION WOODS

And does this suggest that Woodsy has not yet been given the chop?

Has official word been given that Dylan Smith has actually been delisted, and what is the "official" word on the elevations of "Killer" Crowley ( ;) ), Michael Warren and Paul Duffield?

Are the changes to the list all just speculation so far?

Seems most other clubs are well into the culling process, but so far we have yet to get into it - probably the trip to England has stopped them from cutting guys who are out and about with their mates... well at least stopped them from releasing their names to the media.

Dion Woods was one of the only fringe players to not get a run over in the UK. I'd assume Woods has been given the chop, or extended leave to sort himself out. One of those two. I'd be leaning toward the first one.

The rest of the fringe (or uncontracted) players got a run in the UK.

I would read into it that the club was letting them play for their contracts, and prove to the club who should be elevated, who should be retained etc. 1 performance to really stand up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Luke Webster still out of contract also? I'm not sure but I don't think he got a gig in the London match either.

The club wouldn't want to leave players in limbo too long. The announcement would have to be made soon. Freo already have a bad name for the way they handle players.

I'd say you're right - he was elevated after he did his knee in 2003, so you'd think he wouldn't have got more than a 2 year contract at the time, and I don't recall having heard he had been re-signed at any time during this past year. I think he's on very thin ice - the club showed great faith in him by elevating him and keeping him on after his 3rd knee reco, and was considered "best 22" early in the year, but never really set the world alight during his time in the seniors (before getting dropped and then injured again IIRC)...

Not sure about Browne Rip, but I reckon that list from The Age has more than just two players missing from it.

It was reported Schofield hit the gym with Peake instead of going on holidays, hoping to get his body right for next season. I think it's ridiculous to suggest that they'd force him and/or Macca into retirement, as if they'd do it. I think they both feel they have unfinished business and want to go out on their terms. Whether they can succeed doing so is unlikely, with the club looking to back it's young talent. The proof here was them not participating in trade week.

Why is Cookie still out of contract, he was one of our best players this season? I can understand Parker not having signed yet, cause he may have not decided if he wants to play on (hopefully he does).

If not I think he would make a decent assistant coach.

How do you figure that? I suggest you have a look at the B&F results.

He put his head over the ball all season and did all the hard things without regard for his body. Ask any Freo fan on here and I'm sure they'll agree that apart from Pavlich and Bell, Cook was the only player that put in no matter the situation.

EDIT: Have a gander at the 2005 player of the year thread at the top of the Freo forum.

Obviously we, as supporters, have different "KPIs" than those on the coaching staff (surprising but true... ) - but we appreciated his hardness, tenacity and never-say-die attitude all year... when other more talented team-mates were perhaps not putting in quite the same effort week in week out.

Final results of the FFCBFPOTY award for 2005.

Oh you're absolutely right!!! He was equal with that no name hack of a kid David Mundy. How on earth will he get another contract?

On a serious note, your hero Daniel Kerr who came 2nd in the brownlow came 8th in the Eagles best and fairest. I thought he had a great season but yet he polled quite a bit lower than expected by his own coaching staff. I'd suggest to a large extent the same has happened to Troy.

Cook was solid as a rock this year. He turned the momentum of several games around with his bumps and agression, when he was putting on hits it was infectious throughout the rest of the team. He's still a required player and the young guys can still learn a lot from the way he goes about his footy. He may be near the stage where the club will only want to offer 1 year contracts however. The team at this stage in their development could very quickly outgrow a player like Troy and I doubt he will be offered any deal longer than 2 years at most.

He came in at 17th. Just goes to show how badly you over-rate your own players. The fact the coaching staff gave him 0 out of 4 for 9 out of the 20 games he played and 1 out of 4 for the other 11, shows he is clearly a dud and the coaching staff don't think very highly of him!!!

Wouldn't expect you to give a millimetre coasting, so really what you have said falls right in line with what we would expect you to say... so status quo is obvioulsy maintained on our board.

And by your logic - does this not mean we also under-rate Shane Parker and Scott Thornton and Antoni Grover and Paul Medhurst and Des Headland and Steven Dodd and Luke McPharlin and every other player that we placed lower than their placings in the B&F?

And does it not mean that the umpires must vastly over-rate Daniel Kerr, where they could see a guy who only comes 8th in his club B&F come 2nd by just one vote in the Brownlow?

All I am saying is that he is not one of your better players and your coaching staff clearly agree with me. I find it mind-boggling that you folks rated him as your 2nd best player for the year. It should come as no surprise that they aren't rushing to sign him to a new deal.

Almost as mind-boggling as the umpire's rating Daniel Kerr as the second best player in the competition for the year... but then we all agree that the umpires don't really know what they are doing anyway, don't we? ;)

No-one is disputing that Cookie is not the most skilled player going around, but for hardness and the indefinable, intangible "pride in the jumper" quality - Cookie, along with Bell, are the clear leaders. Maybe that is what we were rating him on. It's not always about skill and talent to a supporter.

And anyway, "17th best" will still get you a game most weeks... and considering they didn't trade this year, I think it won't be long before Cook is signed on for another year or two.

The only reason you'd find it mind boggling because you're talking without thining. You've obviously missed all the posts where we don't rate our coaching staff. Or the posts where Freo supporters would prefer Kerr over either Judd or Cousins.

I'm not surprised he isn't signed. He is probably gadding about Europe or eyeballing the talent on those beaches in southern France. He might even be checking out that beautiful Croatian coast. I'm reliably informed that not only is it a beautiful part of the world but Croatian women are incredibly attractive.

Anyway, Cookie is a favourite player because we know that when he runs out we get nothing less that 100% every week. We are willing to overlook that he second grabs almost every pill, and can't kick to save his life. We do notice he's a tackling machine, an awesome mark for his size and never takes a backward step. How hard is that to understand that we love him?

I agree you are reliably informed Dr Dagg. I spent a year there and they are amazing specimens. Not the most approachable though, well not the ones i approached anyway. But over here you might get 1 in 40 young females who you may say is super model material over there they are everywhere. Ones of a rotund nature are non existant over there.

The Doc is laying the groundwork for a gag with IP I sense. :D
