For starters, that 2017 would smack the current one in the midfield.

This year's team has won when beaten in the midfield.
Thats very true, but the 2017 side is as solid in defence and IMO better forward of the ball

Need to compare the whole side though.
In 2017 we had a better ruckman & better high end midfield.
Sloane, Laid, Matt and Brad Crouch is effective but I don't think it is particularly dynamic...

So, what does that have to do with the price of eggs?
We still had a better ruck & top end midfield in 2017.
That making an AA team doesn't indicate an elite player, just means they've had an elite year.
We will just agree to disagree, I'd fancy this team in a few years to crush that 2017 team.

Our 2017 midfield had a better record than our current side as it stands.
I'm not saying our current midfield group can't improve though.
But we are comparing them now, not potential.
Still better than what we have now

You could say the crows current side could beat the 2017 tigers too.
But in comparison. I wanna see how this current crows side would of faired In 4 certain years.... 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2012. Yep these are crows sides that lost in preliminary finals.
2002. Crows would beaten the magpies at the MCG with a forward line of Tilthorpe, Fogarty, Walker, Rankine and Rachele. I don't know if this current crows side would beat the 2002 Brisbane team in a grand final.
2005, crows lost narrowly in Perth vs eagles in WA. The current crows side would narrowly beat the eagles despite the eagles superior midfield.
Swans Forward line in 2005 wasn't great. Hall, Michael O'Loughlin and Nick Davis and Adam Schneider were ok forwards. Crows current forward line and defence would hold firm.
2006.... Crazy how West coast kicked 2 goals by half time and won. I still think crows kicking 13 or 14 goals in a preliminary final in Adelaide would of been enough to win that night.
That means the swans again... Similar squad to their 2005 grand final side.
2012.... Crows lost narrowly to the hawks. Crows had the 2 talls in Kurt Tippett and Tex Walker up as Kpfs. Lack of quality smalls cost the crows a flag in 2012. Ian Callinan was solid but not elite.
Crows would of faced the swans in the 2012 grand final. The swans Forward line wasn't great either
Specifically in this year vs 2017? Not sure I agree. I’d take 2017 walker over Fogarty and lynch over 2025 Walker as the third tall. Agree thilthorpe is ahead of Jenkins but Jenkins was a consistent 40-50 goal player and not too bad. Fogarty/TT will end up being a very good forward line duo but I think we are getting ahead of ourselves a bit with the comparisons to 2017.

Feel like the ceiling of the 2025 midfield is higher, but the floor of the 2017 midfield was better
Jenkins was a 40-50 goal player largely due to coaching, though. Outperformed his talent (not to say he wasn’t a good player, though)
RT has much better contested marking, around the ground qualities, and field kicking than Jenkins ever had. Difference between the two talent-wise is night and day
I’d also argue 2017 Lynch was closer to the Keays role than the current Tex role. Both Lynch and Keays tended to play higher up the ground. Different type of players, and each effective in their own ways. Probably best comparing Tex to 2017 Gov

Interesting, but would definitely disagree with ANB > Douglas and Keys > Lynch. At worst they are equal, but I would probably prefer to have 2017 Lynch and Douglas over 2025 ANB/Keys.
On reflection, you’re probably right on ANB vs Douglas. Forgot Dougie was as much of an accumulator off a HFF as he was
I’d still take Keays over Lynch, though. Lynch was an excellent disposer of the ball and connector, but for pure footy traits, I’d take current day Keays’ ability to find the goals + defensive pressure
Keays is on pace to kick 40+ goals. Lynch kicked 31 in 2017
