I saw Perrie on Channel 9 sports and got the distinct impression that he wants to go home.

He's out of contract at the end of the season, and he gave the old Stenglein, Johnson, Crr, Stevens line of we'll have a look at that at the end of the year.

Dillon then said that we'll have to get him an Adelaide girlfriend to keep him here, and waited in vain but got zero response.

Personally I read it that he wants to go home. He is about that age when they do want to.

If that proves to be the case then we should move heaven and earth to involve Perrie in a trade for Pav. Obviously we'd have to balance the deal up.

Whatever Adelaide come up with as a deal I'd like to sweeten the deal a little more by chucking in Smith as a freebee. ;)

1st Rounder, Ian Perrie, Set of steak knifes, Bottle of Vat 69, Matt Smith.

I can't comment on any of your West Aussies - including Perrie. But it would have to be a very chilly day in hell before Freo would consider trading Pav. Seriously. He's contracted till the end of 2007. He's our captain in waiting. I hate to deflate your fantasies, but really, Pav will not be playing anywhere but Freo until at least 2008. We have made some pretty serious trading blunders over the years, but Pav? I mean he's the heart and soul - he's one of the few things we can hang our collective hats on... Pav pretty much is the Freo Footy Club. The likelihood of him being traded is zero. For at least the next couple of seasons, anyway.

Didn't Port say the samething about Josh Carr - so we should think about dusting off the welcome home mat.

Put in order of trade value too.

Seriously i wudnt trade Butler/Waters jockstrap for Ian Perrie, never mind Pavlich. Ian Perrie at best is worth a 2nd rounder or a fringe player (ie. Rowan Jones). This is typical Adelaide supporters talking up there junk. Eagles wouldnt need him neither would Freo. If you expect any more then a 2nd round pick you need to come back down to earth and actually wake up and see what a dud he is. Both teams have a better CHF, and with a kick like Perries youd prefer him to be as far away from goal as possible. Unlike the Stenglein trade if Perrie asked to come home you couldnt demand anything from the clubs cos he isnt a good enough player to get that sort of attention.

In other words, stop dreaming

Heard the same story this time last year about Stenglein, but now he's the best tagger the planet has ever seen, right?

I agree with your sentiments, but doesn't he have something in his contract aout Freo playing finals footy? Also, you risk losing him for much less if you wait till his cotnract runs out.

Having said that, I think you are right. Pavlich is a fine young man and is very principled.

I think we'll keep perrie as a depth player. Even if he's not in our team. We don't have many tall KPP players and i think we'd try to keep him, but i'd trade him if it was a good enough deal.

Perrie might decide he wants to leave to Perth, but in the end those clubs won't want him, regardless of how cheap he comes, and he will remain at Adelaide.

Maybe - but he was out of contract so Port had to deal. Pav's contracted till 2007. You may have a shot at him for season 2008, but before then... it is highly, highly, highly, highly unlikely. If there was someone in your squad that Freo were interested in, you may have a chance at Schammer (also contracted to 2007), but Pav would be the only "off-limits" player in our squad I would think. Once his contract is finished, it may be a different story. But before then... I'm not trying to be a cow / smart@rse and talking him up or whatever... but really, the earliest you could hope to see Pav in an Adelaide guernsey would be 2008.

Having a think about this it is extremely difficult to see it. A lot of other factors come into it.Lets take personality out and lets do the deal..we see that Pav has 2 years of contract at $400,000 a year which Adelaide has to pay, Perrie leaving frees up estimated guess $150,000 a year? VB as well $60,000 we come up with Adelaide in minus territory of $380,000. BUT wait M Clarke is retiring and at an estimated $200,000 freed up the figures look better.

At $180,000 + a new back ended contract which starts to climb after the 2 year Fremantle payoff finishes would see the deal done

What Adelaide then need to look at is Pavlich as our golden pick and then recruit/draft rookies. And also possibly go with a smaller list. The other factor is other players contracts etc. BUT McLeod and Roo by 2008 may not be around ...oh this is getting hard :p

Bottom line in any deal is what value Perrie/VB/2nd round draft pick? Also what clubs want to deal?

Possibly, but as I wasn't there when he signed ( ;) ) I can't confirm or deny that. There's always speculation about the exact contents of contracts of the game's bigger players.

Also, you risk losing him for much less if you wait till his cotnract runs out.

True - but I reckon they'd risk it. And unless AFC are planning on finishing last in 2007 (or PAFC for that matter), then he can't really play the "deal or I'll walk" card as he'd likely end up in Victoria for a couple of years anyway. Not that I think he would do that - not his style you wouldn't think. Anyway, I reckon Pav would make his wishes known at least 12 months prior if he did plan to go back to SA, to ensure the club got the best possible deal out of it. Like you said - he is a fine young man, highly principled.

Having said that, I think you are right

For our sake I hope so. It would gut our club if he left - and lets face it there's not a whole lot there to gut right now as it is. :o

Pavlich is a fine young man and is very principled.

Absolutely he is. See above.

We missed our latest chance at securing Pavlich in 02 when we decided to make a play for Wayne Carey.

Realistically though the only way we will see Pav in a Crows jumper is when he is in his late 20s or if the Dockers see something they like at the AFC, in either case we will have to pay above market price for him & that would be as i said before an arm & leg & probably Stiffys left & right testicles. :)

Sir Brady Rawlings :D

How about we give you Perrie, Massie, Schuback, Smith, Ladhams, Bode.. ya Doughty's, the kitchen sink , hell we will even throw in M Clarke as well for the Pav.

:)

Spot on ****. I know Freo have had a history of bad trades but Perrie for Pavlich or Polak - you would have to be joking. Why would any club be interested in a slow key forward who can't mark and can't kick.

But at least I expect the Crows will make the finals with him playing as a forward ("who can't mark & kick") & I can collect another bet Mitch.

Why would you sacrifice Van Berlo is the deal? Playing league footy in your first year is quite uncommon, especially considering he was taken at pick 24. Although he's only averaging a few touches a game, give him time.

Give him time? What for? If Pavlich is anywhere near the table at the end of the year then we have to make a deal that may make Fremantle say yes.

Van Berlo, as a highly-rated Western Australian rookie, is the bleeding obvious first cab off the rank in any such deal.

You can't tell me you'd prefer to have a raw and unproven Van Berlo over Pav.

spot on. if you want something good, you gotta give something that hurts.

Or we could always give Matt Connell a ring. Hell, I'm tempted to SMS Brendan Logan ;)

Bockchoy67 said:
Given how highly the AFC rate Van Berlo there's NO WAY we'll be seeing The Count in a Freo jumper anytime soon. ;)

But this is it. The days of recruiting a superstar with magic beans are long gone.

Regardless of how highly the match committee rate the prospects of NVB, Pavlich - still just 24 and a half - is worth a damn sight more. If we expect to bring him home, or any other AA-standard recruit, you have to make sacrifices and NVB is the most obvious start.

I'd say Port would like him right now. He's better than any of your current tall forwards bar Tredrea. :)

Supertramp had a song which sumps up getting him here DREAMER

Wasn't so fanciful back in 2002 when we chose to throw the house at Carey was it?

And it's not as if the shambles that is the current day Freo are as attractive as they were back in 2003 when Connolly boasted about the F-word, "Finals".

They've gone backwards while we're surging.

Given he's an unabashed Crows fan the only roadblocks between Pav and West Lakes are his contractual obligations and his price - we're not talking about Stephen "Brunswick forever!" Kernahan.
