Two very different players.

Ellis is more versatile and has greater skills. Murphy is a running midfielder with lots of attacking intent.

Alright...now this is just getting ridiculous. I realise the polls board is simply a forum for Hawthorn and Richmond supporters to bait Carlton supporters, and byenlarge you guys do a good job.

Fact is Murph is at present head and shoulders the best player from his draft. After Pendlebury, Ellis would be a long way third. That said, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and will be a great player for the Hawks, but both players were taken at the right number in the draft.

I put Ellis. Most disposals in the 2008 premiership team, very efficient user of the ball. Good in close and out wide.

How is Ellis more versatile? Because he is taller?

Ellis can only play HBF or wing. Murphy in the guts or HFF.

Murphy by a fair distance.

You clearly don't know much about Ellis. He's an inside/outside player who plays half back at the moment and rotates through the midfield. He is better overhead and in defence than murphy and has an impressive leap and good acceleration and speed.

He will overtake Murphy in output next year, he's only played two seasons of AFL to murpy's 3 :thumbsu:

So what you're saying is, you'd prefer Walker to Cooney, Myers to Palmer and J.Morton/Grigg to Selwood because they're faster, taller, a better mark and more versatile?

Clueless.

Murphy by a long way.

murphy by a fair bit. they are pretty different players but i think murphy is much better because he can find his own pill, get it where it hurts the opposition and use it really well. he is also much better around goals and better defensively.

i think carlton made the right choice in picking murphy however i believe we got more value out of ellis given he was pick 3 and murpy was pick 1.

Murphy has already shown quite a bit in his short career, but Ellis has definitely closed the gap over the second half of this season & has clearly demonstrated why he was expected to go #2 in the 2005 draft. A blessing for Hawthorn that he slipped to #3. I am still happy that we took Murphy at #1, as he has shown himself to be more than able to compete alongside Chris Judd in the midfield 'stakes'.

cant split em ! both great players
I voted for murphy simply because if he gets
his kicking right he will be a superstar

At their best they are equal

On consistancy Murphy by far. If Ellis becomes more consistant he could become better than Murphy but not right now he isn't.

Good posts, guys.

Not really because you were right, or wrong.. but because you took an objective view.

I think most supporters who reguarly, even occasionally watch both players will have an idea that they will be great players. Murphy has benefited from an extra season from Ellis, which obviously is evident, so at this point Murphy gets the chocolates, but it doesn't really make sense scrutinising the comparison between two players every time they have a good/bad game or every off-season.

omg another thread started by a hawk...

Murphy by farrrrrrrr.... ellis is a cheap posi getter who hasnt done much

This is all a bit premature for Ellis. Even though I think he's a good player, for his sake, give him another 12 months.
