With the draft going as good as it has this year it has me wondering: Do we go with experienced players that were out of form for most of last year (JJ, Pev, Bolton, Heffernan), or do we simply use them as depth players and use our younger guys. IMO, we should use the NAB cup as a platform for the younger guys and take it from there, but I don't think we should play them all in every game. Just give them a taste of football this year and give them a year to develop while protecting them from the full rigours of senior football. I was just wondering what others think.

they should all play in the nab cup with older players being rested such as hird. jj wont be dropped, the rest will probably come in and out of the side for young blood. i dont think any of our draftees will play all next year but hislop seems to be the closest to it. gumbleton will need a year to develop before he comes in and starts playing some afl. the main reasonswhich will decide if they play or not next year will be how they go in the pre season and nab cup and how good of form they are in at vfl level.

Well, you play youth to gain experience....bit like the chicken or the egg really.

Whats wrong with playing the best available ?

That's what I'm trying to get at. Are the best available the new draftees? we won't know until they have had some game time but i dont think we should play them all at once. It is kind of a catch 22. I believe by 2008 most of this years draftees will be getting plenty of game time, but i think 2007 will be a tricky season for Sheeds to balance experience and youth.

Play the best 22 every week IMO, young or old. We need to regain a winning culture, and there'll be enough youth rotating through it anyway to get players AFL experience. Sheedy knows when players need games and when they should continue development in the seconds

Our best 22 wont necessarily win us games. The injection of youth will provide insurance that we will be able to at least keep up with the champion sides.
Our best 22 of the past 2 seasons haven't provided the winning culture we thrive on. Theyve played in winning eras, but have lost their way. The list needed a shake up and as the PM would say...'its a recession we had to have...'
Our recent emphasis on youth, whether it be forced or experimental needs to continue to ensure our longevity as one of the leading Victorian clubs. Reputations should be out the window now.

Our best 22 will give us the best shot at winning games, if the new guys can brake into it all the better.

If say Campo isn't playing well, drop him, but no use dropping him if he's going to be more usefull in winning a game than the kid we bring in just for the sake of youth, no harm in developing at Bendigo if they're not ready for senior action.

teddy richards, maybe if he got same game time he wouldnt have left the club he had spent his whole life barracking for. Don't ask anyone from the Richards family what they think of sheeds

He pretty much played the whole second half of 2004, he was never going to get a game in our forward line like he wanted.

If his family are still crying about it they wouldn't want to know what I thought of them.

Teddy was hardly on the ground. He may have been in the team but sheeds wouldnt leave him on for long enough. Sydney have done well with him because they have given him a spot abd let him do his own thing.
They aren't still crying about it because Teddy is happy at Sydney. There are some stories I wont go into but they have a right not to like Sheeds

I've stated this before, and it's been touched on above.....I think it is crucial, from the word go (Rd 1 NAB cup) to play our best side every week, regardless of ladder position, media scrutiny etc....

Playing the "kids" has its positives, but it's time they were taught that they will not have an easy ride into the seniors....work ethic has to be huge, and rewarded accordingly....Ever senior player should have there hand up come February to play....and more importantly, to WIN....

Ted's biggest problem is that he, and a lot of his fans all think he is better than what he is.

Seriously limited footballer.

We did very well to get rid of him for a first rounder.

It still sounds like such a bargain the more you think about it. I mean, the only other player that fits his type would've been Bolton and I wouldnt imagine we wouldve gotten close to a first round pick.

Not more of Richards. I am quite sure Teddys family do not agree with Sheeds and his decisions. At the end of the day i dont have a problem with how he was handled.Once he had his body ready to play KP he was given a good go and it was only his own doing that cost him a few games last year. If he didnt sqib it against the Lions he would have ended up playing 13 or so straight games to finish of 2005 and cement his spot.
Doesnt matter anyway Ted got what he wanted and played 20 odd games. I am dam sure he isnt too worried at all now.
