Multiplat Fallout 3

I've done a few more Quests now, just played it for 'a bit' and noticed 3 or so hours simply disappeared. Even though I'm an RPG n00b I'm getting the hang of it ok, just have no ****ing idea how to level up certain skills as I need them to do a few missions.

One of the biggest choices you need to make is the assigning of skills; some people try and allocate them all over the shop and be an all-rounder.

Personally, I started off doing that, getting them all to a decent base, but now I'm concentrating on a couple of them and pumping them up as quick as I can.

Also - the perks; make sure you get the ones that either give you more experience or additional skill points to allocate as early as you can; the sooner you get them, obviously the more you benefit from them.

I'm a reasonable way into it (I think), got laser rifle (shit), plasma rifle (haven't used it yet), minigun (awesome) - but my two favourite weapons are still the Combat Shotgun and the Chinese Assault Rifle.

I've tanked the VATS system, the small arms skills and the +damage, +crits, +gib, +2 handed vats perks, and I get a lot of single shotgun critical headshots now (which = them exploding).

A bit like you - I started playing it at about 7 last night; next thing I knew it was midnight

Bloody great game - I've always been an FPS fan over RPGs, this might change that.

You are right about the Chinese Assult Rifle and Combat Shotgun, fantastic weapons. The Laser Rifle is good if your energy weapons is high, where did you find the Plasma Rifle?

The hunting and sniper rifles are fantastic if you can get a head shot in stealth. I'm level 13 at the moment, I just read that the level cap is 20.

Cheers for the tips boys.

Kingy, I've also been a fan of FPS and never really got into (understood??) RPGs but this seems to have an element of both which is brilliant. I will be getting stuck into this again shortly and hopefully can get past that bomb with the tips in this thread.

I can't see myself finishing this game for a long time as I'm pretty keen to get stuck into the side missions which are apprently a lot longer than the main story.

I did the main quest up until you can learn to wear power armour, since then I've moved to the side quests to explore more of the map.

Deathclaws hurt, I don't recommend fighting em anytime soon.

As soon as I get too far from Megaton I get r*ped bad, I have no ammo for my guns except that pissy laser thing. I tried to take on 3 pickpockets (well they attacked me first) and I didn't manage to even injure one with that piece of shite.

The laser weapons suck balls at the start - your best bet is either the 10mm pistol, or the Chinese Assault Rifle that the Sherrif drops.

Probably best to play the storyline for a little while - it'll help you get new stuff, as well as increase your XP pretty quickly; and then wander off and do the side missions.

Yeah I might do that. Didn't even touch the storyline last night but found an old school full of Raiders. I decided to knife them and that worked a treat, chopped a few heads off in the process which was very awesome.

That was on the way to
delivering the letter to the West family, pity they were dead when I got there. Now I have to find The Family (I did have a bit of a laugh about that name). Not sure whether I should go after them or just do the main story for a bit to boost myself up.

i completed this the other day. I found the main mission a bit.. small. It probably only 10/15 hours worth there.

I started it up again and wil try and do more side missions. I found if you accept Burkes request to blow up the town you get the marker for that hotel. Even though i turned him in i went down there. Robbed the place and accepted a mission to clean out some ghouls. Got me about 700 caps for it and some decent guns/ammo.

If you are charismatic enough/have some ponits in speech you can end that mission peacefully very easily. If you want to go in all guns blazing theres quite a few people in the family in a big open room, not sure how tough they are. if you do it the friendly way you get a schematic for the shishkebab, an awesome flaming sword :)

I got frustrated and slaughtered the entire village.

Serious question for XBOX users:

Has the game freezed on anyone yet? It did for me last night. I was only playing for an hour, questing in a dark tunnel. No problems at all to speak of, then the disc made a short spinning noise then ..... Frozen. Pretty pissed off. Only went 20 minutes without saving, but that's not the point. The sooner we can install these massive games the better. :(

Not yet mate thankfully. I had about 3 on Far Cry 2 tho.:thumbsd:

Pain in the arse. Same deal, just hear the disc spinning and then it stops, and the game either freezes or you get a disc read error.

The only other game i ever had an issue with this was Bioshock last year. And they fixed that with a patch, so here's hoping

Only had one problem with it on the 360 where I somehow ended up being inside a rock, was trying to attack some raiders when I fell in. Could move around inside and see the raiders outside, just couldn't shoot them and they couldn't see me.

I accidentally went found Vault 112 and finished the Tranquility Lane part to find dad. Missed out on going to Rivet City after the Galaxy News Radio quest. Anyone knows how that affects the Scientific Pursuits quest?

Ah geez, bad luck mate. Yeah i'm not sure how it affects that specific quest, but Tim on CtrlAltDel gave exactly this warning out last week. ie,
go into Vault 112 early
and you miss a big chunk of story.

Only way to get it back is to return to a previous save unfortunately:thumbsd:

How long does it take to finish?

Again, from Tim at CAD. I find he's a great source of unbiased game info...

I have played Fallout 3 for thirty-two hours, according to my play clock, obviously not counting reloaded saves, etc.

My character is level 15 (out of 20), and I only just completed the GNR.

I have still yet to explore the entire northern/northeastern section of the map, I'm not even done exploring the southern areas.

At this rate I am going to hit the level cap long before I get around to finishing up the main quest (which I hear flat-out ends the game, so I'm avoiding it for now).

I'm starting to question whether I should even bother attempting to experience the entire thing in one game. I don't think the game was designed that way, and that makes sense... none of the previous Fallouts were designed that way either.

I'm worried about the possibility of boredom setting in once I no longer have any avenues to advance my character. Perhaps I should hit level 20, finish the game, and then start a new character with which to explore the other, new areas.

Hmmm...

I attacked a trading caravan and a few other enemies turned up....when I killed them and searched their bodies they had warrants for my arrest. I can only imagine this is a result of bad karma?

That has been reported alot from Far Cry 2 360 users, alot of freezing once getting above 50% completion.

Well I am bad so I know its because I did bad things, but correct me if I am wrong I hear that they go after you if you are good. Pretty sure I have read that

Yea, if you're either quite bad or quite good, they'll come after you.

I'm evil as **** at the moment :(

Accidently did two things which absolutely wrecked my karma just before tranquility lane (whish trashes it), and from then of have struggled to get it anything about 'evil.'

Good = A bounty on your head.
Bad = Arrest warrants.

Also as dumb as this might sound where the hell are the family can someone give me a highlight to reveal, cheers. I have done heaps since the letter drop and don't want the game to end so I might do a stack of the side missions and this one is still active.

when you go to the train station, you'll meet that ghoul making a super chem. In a room next to his office there is some radioactive waste, there is a grill on the floor. You go through there. It will lead you to some railroad line and you just follow it around.
