Multiplat Fallout 3

Just picked up the GOTY edition on Steam for like $11.

Says it isn't compatible with windows 8 but once you edit the .ini file it works fine.

Still one of the most immersive games ever, the animation hasn't aged well but everything else is still fantastic. I'm a fan of good writing mostly, so never got into NV as it just didn't grab me like F3 did.

NV was about the weapons.

Eh, bit of an oxymoron there. You say you're a fan of good writing then prefer 3 to NV lol. Both fantastic games but Bethesda don't hold a candle to Obsidians writing team.

Really?

I find Obsidian definitely inferior. FO3 really feels like a living world where random shit is happening. NV felt like a video game.

You'd be in the absolute minority thinking bethesda are better writers than obsidian. Obsidian are pretty well thought of as one of, if not the best group of writers in the industry.

Not saying you're wrong at all. Opinions differ, but its the first time I've seen someone prefer FO3 for its writing.

Well when I say writing I am also referring to the artistic vision for the overall world/game including the expansions.

Obsidian games are almost always good copies of the original (they mostly make sequels). But Bioware are better writers by far (and they have a very close working relationship with Obsidian and share a lot of staff, I know) in my opinion. I doubt that opinion would be considered controversial either.

I very much think it'd be controversial they're neck and neck. I recently made a topic on gamefaqs about best writers in the business with a poll. Obsidian and Bioware were tied. I'd be placing those two as my top two for sure with Bethesda, Naughty Dog and Telltale not crazy far behind! A lot of good writers doing the rounds these days :)

New Vegas was a good example of how not to port a console game to PC. I though the story was better in NV and the items were pretty sweet but the immersive wasteland of FO3 was just a million times better. Also FO3 had more super mutants and brotherhood of steel which really made it for me.

Both the BoS and the Enclave have small parts to play in New Vegas as well. I've got the horribly-plagued-by-framerate-issues PS3 version - the one thing that keeps it from being my favourite game of all time.

OF ALL TIME!

Bethesda are responsible for great-looking games, yet the adaption to console is pretty poor sometimes.

NV was set after Fallout 2 so the Enclave had been all but wiped from that area and then NCR had done a number on most of the BOS getting control of the Power Station.

I'm replaying NV again at the moment and as good as it is I can't help but prefer Fallout 3.

I really want to start NV from the beginning but I just don't have the time, after hours and hours of gameplay I delayed doing part of the story and ended up being so hated by the Legion I couldn't go to Caeser's base without everyone trying to kill me

Fallout 3 is pretty close to my favourite game of all time.

The first time I played it I got stuck at the start, and stopped playing for about a year. After coming back to it and going further into the story I was hooked from start to end. Would love to see a remake on next gen consoles.

The first time I played it, I wandered too far away from Megaton after leaving Vault 101, and was torched to death by some maniac near Arefu.

I ignored it for about 8 months after that, but about midway through 2010 I gave it another go, and I've finished it 3 times since. Brilliant game.

You get a pardon when you start the casino stuff.

Yeah........ I ignored that for a while and did side missions :$
I did pretty much everything possible and delayed going into Vegas including killing a heap of Legion. Start your game back up, you won't regret it. :thumbsu:

I'll see how I go, I don't get much chance to play games any more, and I've already got the latest Borderlands, Far Cry 4, and Skyrim on the go, and a couple of games I've half way through for ages like Mass Effect 3.

My biggest problem with NV is that you can too quickly and too easily get a heap of powerful weapons. The best part of any Fallout game for me is the equipment struggle and scrounging early on.
