Seeing as my whole game plan is sneaking maybe I should tell mine to stay home then. Is there any downside in not having one? Like will I miss quests or anything?

You can get quests from them when they like you.

Take the Lone Wanderer perk for when you are being sneaky or have dogmeat as your companion.

Need Charisma 3
When adventuring without a companion
Rank 1 - take 15% less damage and carry 50 more
Rank 2 (available from L17) - take 30% less damage and carry 100 more
Rank 3 (available from L40) - do 25% more damage

I have only got the "Companion x dislikes this" notification when they are actually there witnessing it.

They aren't god like and know everything you do when they aren't there as far as i can tell.

I saw a great suggestion the other day, which was you should be able to tag locations in game with a "come back here" message.

Like when you find a master locked door or safe that you can't open until you get the perk. Unless you kept a list there is no way you can remember them all.]

Also with companions, the map should show their current location. It shows you where power armour is, why not your companions

I just added the leader of Goodneighbour as my companion, he is a ghoul who wears a red pirate jacket and hat, I don't think he'll have issues with anything I do.

He loves it when you use chems, but dislikes when u murder randomly & be an ass in dialogue. Cait is the best campanion I've had so far for blindly murdering & pillaging

I got done by both Preston and Codsworth at the same time.

They got put to the bottom of my companions list.

So defeated a Legendary Radscorpion last night and had Idiot Savant 5x proc in the same second that the bastard's poison took the last of my health as I'm fumbling for a Stimpack.

I also reached maximum affinity level with one of my companions and you get a nice 15% XP bonus after resting instead of the standard 10%.

One thing to note, if you like preston as a companion don't activate the quest

to take back the minutemen base

.

He nicks off to the far south to wait for you and you basically can't reunite with him until that quest is started.

When i saw where he was meeting me I went "lol ok mate see you in 100 gaming hours or so. I'm level 12"

When I visited goodneighbor there was a bit of an incident which ended in everyone trying to kill me. I got out but whenever I go back in I'm under attack instantly. Will I ever be able to go back there or is it gonna be the same every time?

Try going to sanctuary and waiting/ sleeping for 48 hours. That seems to have fixed a similar problem people are getting into in Diamond City.

Great DP btw - he'd be amazing on the radio in the Commonwealth!

In previous Fallouts you occasionally get forgiven for the sake of the story line, not sure about that particular situation though.

As soon as I got him I took his hat then sent him home to sanctuary. Now it's my fancy hat.
