From what I've seen of the tech demos, if the consoles can handle this game I'd be seriously impressed
It will be interesting to see, I was actually quite suprised to see that the map editor will ship with both console titles, but so far nothing shows it won't run up to standard, on the other hand though I would love to see how current PC's run this game, with the scale of this game, it'll be interesting to see if anything but "Super Computers" run this thing well.

EDIT: Also on this comment
From what they mention about procedural storyline where you can really do what you want, with cause and effect to the story, that just sounds phenomenal. It could really be the next big step, a revolutionary leap in gaming.
Here is an article describing that if your mates die in the story mode you will actually lose mission content in the game!

No more letting the NPC character fight your battles!

FAR CRY 2: DEAD BUDDIES MEAN LOSS OF CONTENT
Speaking to VG247 at Games Convention, Far Cry 2 narrative head confirmed that losing your NPC buddies in fire-fights means not being able to see all the game’s missions.

“That buddy, Joseph, he’s still around,” said Redding after Joseph came and rescued him from the bush after taking hits.

“He’s out there autonomously fighting guys, and the thing of it is that even though that’s a very useful tool for me to have - a guy like that that’s able to look after these things and keep the heat off me - the reality is that it puts him in danger. He’s now in jeopardy, and he could be killed.

“That’s the price you pay for having buddies. When I unlock a buddy like that and then use him, either by getting involved in one of his missions… or by allowing him to come and rescue me, there’s always a risk that he could be killed. If he’s killed, he’s gone forever and the content associated with that character is no long available to me. So for example, any side quests that he’d be able to give me are no longer available.”

So be careful out there, African mercenary types. You wouldn’t want to miss anything.

Here is an in-depth of the multiplayer/online in Far Cry 2, also a link to the features in the Map Editor.:thumbsu:

FAR CRY 2 MULTIPLAYER PREVIEW
If you've been following along with our Far Cry 2 coverage, you probably know that there is a multiplayer mode. After all, it's basically the whole point of the map editor Ubisoft Montreal is including with the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.

There seem to be two main points that distinguish Far Cry 2's multiplayer from the range of other online shooters out there. First, like was already mentioned, there's the map editor. This thing can be used by anyone who picks up the game to, at least from what we've seen so far, rather easily put together a detailed map and upload it online for others to check out. There'll be a player feedback system as well so you can get a sense of what the community thinks of your creation. For a full rundown on what's included with the editor, head on over to the preview.

The other distinctive element is fire, which can be used pretty effectively to your team's advantage online. You get four modes, deathmatch, team deathmatch, a kind of capture the flag mode, and a territorial control mode. Fire is obviously useful in all the modes, as setting something living on fire is generally an effective method of killing it, but proved to be more interesting in territorial control, where your team tries to capture and defend objectives scattered across a map.

Since most of the maps we played happened to have and other flammable environmental features, it's possible (assuming you have a flamethrower or Molotov cocktails) to light up a section of grass or brush surrounding something like a capture point. While you could still get shot by any attackers, they can't actually move in to take the point unless they want to risk their life or suffer some pretty severe burns. It's a good way to delay the attacking team until support can arrive, or to temporarily block off an easy access route. Once burned, the bald ground will gradually regenerate its vegetation, giving you the opportunity to burn the place down again after a short while.

Not everyone will be carrying a flamethrower, however. In Far Cry 2 you're given the choice of six classes when you start up, each of which can be upgraded through success on the battlefield. Between the six classes you'll get shotguns, submachine guns, machine guns, grenade launchers, sniper rifles and a whole lot more, but getting the more powerful ones will require you allocate diamonds earned through effective fighting. Once some additional primary and secondary weapons have been unlocked, you can mix and match them however you want. Along with weapon upgrades, you'll also be able to unlock bandoliers and maintenance manuals to bump up ammo capacity and weapon reliability.

And weapon reliability does seem to play a significant role, since just like in the single-player you'll have to battle weapon jams. It's a pretty disheartening experience when you're two feet away from an opponent with a flamethrower aimed at their forehead only to discover when you hit the fire button that something's gone wrong and you need to fiddle with the pressure valve to get it working again. After that happens a few times, you'll realize just how valuable weapon reliability upgrades are.

Also slightly different in multiplayer is how the health works – there aren't any syrettes in an online game, meaning you can't just instantly regain health by jabbing yourself with a needle. Instead, you'll have to do a lot of sometimes gruesome self-repair. This can range from the relatively mild patting down of flames on your sleeves to revolting removals or harmful objects or bone rebreaks. Once your health is taken all the way down, there's a short period of time where you can be revived. So if you successfully put someone down, it's best to make sure they're down for good.

Though the map editor essentially makes the number of online maps unlimited, we were told the game will ship with 14 of varying sizes, the largest of which will support up to 16 players and all of which, like the created maps, can feature different types of weather. And remember, if it's raining, fires won't burn as effectively. Like the solo play, there'll be vehicles and plenty of explosive barrels and canisters lying around, meaning there are plenty of ways to kill your opponent aside from simply shooting him in the head.

Far Cry 2's trophy list for the PS3 have been announced, There are 49 trophies 38 bronze, 7 silver, 3 gold, and 1 Platinum.

So GTA SA is 36sq kms, Oblivion is 50sq kms....and Far Cry is 2500sq kms

This seems to big to believe, I hope I'm wrong.

Will this game take 10 years to complete?

Upon investigating this I have discovered that Far Cry 2 is 50sq km, not 50km x 50km....so it's about the same as Oblivion.

Is Oblivion big? How big would you say it is compared to GTA IV?

It's hard to fathom because they're both in very different settings and both with different transport.....but it's much larger than GTA IV when it comes to actual size. GTA IV is less than half the size of GTA SA.

Far Cry is rumoured to be only 32km2. Mercenaries 2, on the other hand is nearly 70km2, Fallout 3 to be around that too.

Why does no one realise that the most important things for these kind of games is varied missions, and awesome AI. You want to walk around a realistic sandbox world, you want the enemies to react realistically. That whole video linked, the player just runs around randomly, and it seems he doesn't get shot at once.

Also, the controls and animations look really jerky. Like the new Brothers in Arms game, the squad tactics stuff is cool as shit, but they couldn't get the simple FPS mechanics and controls to feel right. How long has this kind of game been around? Say what you like about Halo 3, but the controls and animations are ****ing smooth.

I thought the A.I looked hopeless as well, which is a big downer for a game where the A.I should be amazing.
In that video, he is squatting on the side of the road and a car drives up behind him and doesn't even see him. It was pretty awesome how he blew up the car though.
In another video, he snipers an enemy, and his mate standing next to him starts sprinting towards the source of fire.

I'm guessing it was on easy mode, nobody is going to make a video to show off the game on hard or normal where they could be getting killed every second.

Pretty much... If the gameplay sucks, I don't care how good the graphics & animations are.

You say this every time, why would you make a video to show off your game, which looks shit? You would think a developer would be able to handle playing their own game on a normal difficulty.

Sure they should be able to handle it, but they want to show off the game, once again they aren't wanting to die every couple of seconds and have to restart again, it would be stupid and ametuer, the vid was pretty fast paced so IMO it was pretty hard to get a proper handle on the AI.

An amazing article showing the power of the Far Cry 2 Map creator, in its WILDEST form, and if this doesn't sell you the game, nothing will!

Such maps/icons that have/can be made include: The Eiffel Tower
The Venice Canals
Stade Olypique
Pyramids Of Giza
Mid-air islands
Massive ravines

FAR CRY 2 MAP EDITOR/CREATOR GONE WILD!
It took 20 years of forced slave labor to build the Great Pyramid of Giza. Using the map creator in Far Cry 2, it will take only about an hour. Last time we saw this game in action at Ubisoft Montreal, we were introduced to the basics of the map-creator tool, which gives you the ability to create and alter terrain on the fly with the push of a button. This time around, we take a look at several user-created maps from the Montreal team to show just how crazy you can get. Be sure to check out the recent-image pages for even more looks at these maps. The pyramids are just the beginning.

The global icon of France has been painstakingly re-created using steel beams, concrete slabs, and a radio tower. By placing a spawn point at the top of the tower, you can afford yourself a striking view of the virtual Seine River, as well as the soon-to-be corpses of your enemies. But watch yourself: The surrounding trees in the Champs de Mars provide ample cover for ground-based snipers. You could spend hours creating this map yourself, or download a finished version and start from there. The original author will retain credit, however.

The former home of the 1976 Summer Olympics and baseball team Montreal Expos also acts as a well-protected home base in team-based multiplayer matches. Nevertheless, an enemy positioned in the surrounding neighborhood could blow up anyone standing on the baseball diamond with a well-placed mortar strike. For a quick tour of the grounds, hop in one of the beat-up coups on the street. You can add up to six vehicles to every map, including a hang-glider at the top of the stadium.

Reconstructing the necropolis at Giza makes for a great match of king of the hill. One nice feature of the map editor is a playability meter. If it's green, your map is easy to jump into and play. If it's red, you probably got trigger happy with the object tool and the map is so cluttered that you can't tell your right from left. This pyramid map is wide open. Although it doesn't provide much cover, it is green and ready to go. Also take note of the dazzling sunset; you can edit both the weather and time of day for each map you create.

Just when you think you've had enough of World War II, here comes a map of Omaha Beach, or at least an Africanized Omaha Beach. Instead of Higgins landing boats, you can storm the beach with Far Cry 2's finest fishing trawlers. Instead of hunkering down in a cement bunker, you can defend the coast from a tin-roofed shack. You can use the mound tool to instantly create hills or, conversely, dig craters. The rippled sand effect is actually applied using a paint-texture tool that also includes patterns such as dried river bed.

In Far Cry 2, a picturesque boat ride in one of Venice's famous canals is far from romantic. Instead, it's a scene for a bloody battle. The use of bridges may seem like a logical choke point, but players are surprisingly mobile in the water, having the ability to dive down and quickly hide from danger. Just make sure the map plays by the rules. A validation tool will force you to have all the requisite spawn points and multiplayer objectives in place so the map can be played in every mode.

Who said that maps have to be based on reality? This sky castle floats in midair and is linked together by wooden suspension bridges. You could make a mad dash across one such bridge in a round of Capture the Diamond, or you could make a more risky move by running down the pipe in the center of the map. This map was created by adding a giant rock object, then moving to the edit object tool. From there, you can change the orientation and height, and then begin adding other objects on top.

A wilderness-generator tool will start you out with a preset template such as savannah or desert oasis. You will have tools to create each of the environments in the single-player game, which also includes mountain, desert, forest, tropical, swamp, and urban areas. Here, suspension bridges zigzag across a deep, craggy ravine. Don't lose your step; it's a long way down.

A quick and fun way to play with an existing map is to simply flood it. By raising the water level, you can instantly transform a forest village into a swamp village where high ground is a prized possession. To transform a wide-open map into a tense, close-quarters combat zone, try increasing mist and fog. Sniping from a distance will be transformed into a guessing game, at which point players might resort to using shotguns and machetes.

These geological monstrosities were constructed by simply adding giant boulders on top of each other. If you take a look at the village below, you can see just how vertical these maps can get. To perfect your map, you can also set the playable borders and edit the background. This way, the area outside the playing zone will not be a giant gray mass of nothing.

Just because Far Cry 2 is rated mature doesn't mean your map has to be. These cute creatures were assembled from village huts, craggy rocks, drainpipes, and road signs (for the eyes). When finished, you can instantly jump right into the map and start burning it down with the flamethrower. If you're not happy with the firing angles or spawn points or anything else, you can pull back into the editor. Once finished, you name your map and upload to the Far Cry 2 server for all to enjoy.

Apparently the game has been leaked already.
Here's a list of all the weapons.
There's another list of all the characters etc..
Looks awesome. Can't wait.
Yeah, apparently it is getting pirated all over the place, mainly for XBOX 360.

I am content to wait it out, I have my pre-order and will be at EB first thing next Thursday(Or hopefully get a call on Wednesday)

Personally I haven't had much of a look at the gameplay trailers, but what I have seen looks pretty damn good, also seeing what the level creator can do is offering an amazing look at the depth that online will hold.

There hasn't been a huge amount of reviews yet, but all have been positive.

I'm not sure about that, might be an option in settings, but it isn't apparent in any videos as being a default.
