Do us a favour, if you get a chance , in the finals beat Carltank and kick them out of the race!!!:D
A likely final vs Carlton looms huge. Winning that would be almost as good as winning the flag, but losing it would be about as painful as anything possible in footy, due to history of course. If it turned out to actually be this year's GF which looks very possible, that would be even more extreme obviously. I was at the 1970 GF to give you an idea. Didn't understand the game that well at that age, but the pain still lasted years.

A finals win over Carlton may be needed to vindicate the past, so bring it on!

There has never been one final between Collingwood and Calrton in my life time. IM SO PYCHED ABOUT THE PROSPECT OF THIS FINALY HAPPENING

Losing a final to the blues... it eases the pain slightly that we won the flag last year but yes.. worst thing i can imagine.

too young to remember it ever happening, thank god.

What will be will be.

It looks like we will meet them at some stage in the finals series barring any mishap.

I certainly haven't seen a Carl/Coll final in my lifetime but historically it hasn't been a good hunting ground for us.

Some of the older generational Pies supporters may need "closure" but to me it doesn't hold any more weight or significance other than if they are to play us in the finals, they are just another foe standing in our way of greatness (back-to-back).

There will be so very nervous old time collingwood supporters in the lead up.

The crowd would roar like the fires of hell!

Best part this time we wont be the over achieving, talent lacking hardworkers not used to the mcg, we will be the battle hardened taken machine rolling over who ever is unlucky enough to get in our way.

I've been waiting all my life this time as a collingwood supporter, this is our age of legend

Having lived thru the 1970s and 1980s grand final losses, I can't say that I've got 100% of my nerve back. Those sorts of defeats tend to have long term effects.

But I can one thing looking back at those days, that Carlton had teams with the greater spread of talent. That was certainly the case in the Tom Hafey days but it was probably true in 1970 too. Certainly, the Blues were tougher players at the time.

You can't say anything like that now. This is easily the most talented Collingwood team in 50 years and easily as tough as the 2002, 1990 and Tom Hafey sides.

There's no doubt that Carlton has gained a lot of number 1 draft picks from cheating the salary cap in the 1990s and then being incompetently led in the early 2000s. I'm still amazed that we can have a system that rewards dishonesty and incompetence. However, we've got to live with that.

Past their number one picks, they still have weak links. I think the links will break down in pressure situations. If I was given a choice of who we meet in this years grand final, then Carlton would be near the top of the list (although west coast would be a beautiful outcome).

Tend to disagree on this one.
Would prefer to go bang-bang Carlton then Geelong in successive weeks - with a win over the Cats in the Grand Final being the ultimate reward.

You can only be called a champion team when you beat another great team in the biggest match of the year. Last year we dethroned Geelong, but their injuries list was bigger than Ben Hur. Similar to us in 2007-2009 with no Fraser (an average but yes a number 1 ruck) and Ottens destroyed us.

This year, it can be best teams up, best side wins.

Still, regardless of wants, Carlton I can see being a Qualifying rival, and then potentially running some good interference for us by giving the Cats an almighty shake in the Prelim.

Gotta be some younguns on the board as well. Remember 88 clear as day. A match of fluctuations, and then finally defeat as our young team (the nucleus of the mob that would go on to win 1990) got over run.

As handy point mentioned they've beaten no-one this year and there's also the fact that blokes like Betts, Garlett, Walker and Simpson go to water when the pressure's really on!

We've beaten them the past 4 times the two teams have met by an average of 46 points and they play their best footy at Etihad.

I'm 24 and have never seen the two teams meet in a final so the past plays no part and I'm looking forward to the Pies handing out the mother of all belting's to them come September and possibly October this year :thumbsu:

Their supporters are getting arrogant again. I want to smash the scum by triple figures so that don't recover for another decade. They believe by beating Sydney that they are suddenly the best.

Not to mention Rohan Connelly's article saying we have no scope for improvement and Carlton have the greatest depth. FFS we've been playing without our number one ruck and our premiership CHB all year, and with hampered injuries on a number of our key players.

Can't wait to face them again because they think we're scared of them. Would gladly play them in a final and show them up for the pretender they are. Much rather play them than Hawthorn or Geelong.

I agree, but I also think the payoff would offset the risk.

As for weak links, if I see Bower making his way back into that side, then I'll be more confident than ever.

And I'll bbe one of them, let me give you that tip.:o

I love how you phrase it Opti and i would love nothing more for you to be right. It's just that pack of fatherless asswipes have a nasty habit of winning GF's that they don't deserve to.

I'd be quite happy to knock them out of the finals in the Prelim for a couple of years running before we take them on in a GF, just to get in practice.
By the time Bucks is going for his threepeat and the team is going for 5 in a row i'll be happy to play them.:p

I prefer to meet the weakest link in grand finals. West Coast would suit me nicely, thank you.

Essendon people still call their 2000 team one of the best teams of all time...lol....only essendon people can dream up such arrogance. Personally, I couldnt care less what the team is labelled, I just hope they keep winning premierships. When I watch Carlton or Geelong on the TV, I am hoping for one thing - long-term injuries. The easier we win this thing, the better.

Personally I hope we don't play them at all in September, as that would mean they have missed the top 4, which would be so funny it's hard to explain.:D

But if we do play them, I'm not worried at all, anywhere near our best wins quite easily.

With the injuries the Hawks have, there's only one side that even has a remote chance of beating us in the finals, and that's the only other true premiership contender, Geelong.

For those who say they are too young to have any Carlton finals baggage from the past, the 1970 GF is available on torrent, watch it if you dare!

I doubt you will feel quite the same after.

I think the head clash to the great Peter McKenna in the 1st q cost us the game - for the rest of the game he played like someone who ... well, had been clocked really hard in the head.

My old man was there

In fact he was at all the grand final losses to Carlton since, he is as scarred as they come. If he can throw the paper down this morning and tell me we will destroy this mob come finals, then anyone can feel confident.

i was at 79 80 81 87

79 gf 5pts fat prick harmes, russell ohlsen being knocked 2nd q cost us the game imo

80 1st semi pies by about 10 goals rene kink bog think he kicked 6 or 7

81 gf 4 goals up time on 3rd q and lost, played peter moore with torn hamstring he got in prelim and he couldnt run

Semi Final...Smash the filth by 86 points...Judd 12 possessions.
Prelim...Pants the Hawks...128 to 41...Buddy 4 goals.
GF...Beat the Cats by 2 goals.

Sounds like a plan.:thumbsu::)

I don't even remember the 81 GF - downloading it now, guess i am a sucker for punishment.
I thought I remembered losing Moore one GF as part of the c-wobbles curse, I guess playing a cardboard cutout Moore was just as bad.
