Surely that's the first time in about 6 or 7 years that Steven King has been omitted on form rather than fitness. Even when he wasn't playing well in the past, he's still always been in.

Yeah i have to agree, i just hope he comes out and dominates the ressies. We would be a better team if he can get back to his best. I have my doubts if he can do it, but im still hoping for miracles.
Fox had a game from the past on yesterday. The one where Lappin gets a very dodgy 50m and kicks a goal to allow the blues to beat us from 40 points down in the last (2002?).
In that game you could see why King was AA. He jumped he used his body in clashes to make way for the small players , he ran to get to position,he took overhead marks. He dominated.
Where did all that go?

Whilst King deserved to be dropped lets consider for a second that as usual his preparation and Thompson's ability to read where he is at with his preparation have as much to do with this scenario as anything. Obviously King was underdone but as usual Thompson just throws him in making ridiculous claims that he is the number one ruckman. King played because Ottens was injured and thats the only reason. Putting extra pressure on King when he obviously wasnt ready for the gig shows Bomber is still as immature as he has always been and still harbours ill feeling towards our ex captain.
Grow up Bomber FFS.
Dropping both Prismall and Stokes for the sake of leaving other poorly performed senior guys in the side is a recipe for disaster.

I agree King has been pretty ordinary, dropping Stokes, maybe, but Prismall ??
The bad part here is that Prismall is one of our better midfielders, just cannot get time in the middle with a quickly developing Selwood, Ling, Bartel and J Corey.
Where then does he find a spot ?
Like all our other midfielders he is not quick, but he isn't slow either. He does have the knack of finding the hardball, which I think is great. So he is another player similar to Bartel, IMO.
Firstly, I believe Ling has to play as a tagger, probably starting out of the middle, leaving Bartel, Selwood, J Corey and/or Prismall in the middle. Chapman and Ablett can be used on occasion, to give that sheer burst of pace and hardness (in Chappy's sense anyway).
I think we need to attack more than just have the easiness of picking guys up. Ling needs to be out of the middle and tag after the bounce, whomever is picking up his player in the middle should then negate back to the backline, maybe HBF, i.e. where J Corey has been playing most of this year anyway.
I think our guys have been undercoached somewhat, whether Bomber thinks they can handle bigger tasks like this, who knows. We have to get smarter at how we position our guys, that is where we will look like a great team again.

About time. As a ruckman Steven King does not even jump at a ruck contest, that is not good enough. He will have to dominate in the VFL before we even consider him for selection.

Thing is he probably wont have to jump in VFL contests to win them, so hell dominate come back into the senior side and do the same thing.
