Fine Wines

Wow peeps are getting ahead of themselfs just a tad. Wines reminds me of Rich when he first came along but he hasnt kicked on. You have to love players who jump up to the level quickly but some do fade away. Joe Danniher has had an average year at the top level but dont worry about what he does this year he is going to dominate for a decade.
There is some real good talent from the class of 2012 and I think it will go down as a super draft.
hmmm. Maybe you should give up on trolling Port for a few weeks. "He is only as good as D.Rich" is not your best work (actually it might be).

but no, Wines has a far better all-round game, bigger tank, and is the biggest mid at every ball up. Rich is good but Wines will be a superstar.

Enjoy the next 10 years.

Superstar? The kid has played 13-14 games. Bit early but then again this is their next superstar.

So a guy who's already averaging 21 disposals, 7 tackles and a goal a game can't get a look in?
Simply saying a larger sample size is required. FTR I am on record as a Mitchell (both Father and Son) fan.

Thought this thread would be about something the young man did that should be punished lol.

Saw his impressive stats as the sub - thought he came on early to get those. If that's from 1 quarter's work, that's an amazing effort by any standards :thumbsu:

Wines is a ripper. You just look at him and think a few preseasons of running and gym work and he's going to be a BEAST in the centre square.

I think the hype of JOM is entirely justified when you see what that kid can do, but it's ONLY because of JOM's awesomeness that anyone is downplaying Wines. He will be a pitbull in 2 years, and a guy to build around for 10+.

Been a long time since Port fans have had much to hang their hat on, we are bound to be enthusiastic.

Will be a good player no doubt.

But one must remember, as a sub you must come on and have an impact.
You have more energy than every other player on the ground and if you are half decent, should be able to attack the ball like the opposition is running through treacle halfway through the last quarter.

See Matty White's last few games as a specialist sub for reference.
Isn't the player Ollie Wines one day will be, but Wines needs to play out and dominate full games before we laud him as a potential top five mid in the comp.

He came on at the end of the first quarter.

He has.

All clubs are excited about their kids but this is pre-ejaculatory.
In his 13 games thus far, how many has he dominated?

26 disps (13 kicks 13 hballs), 4 marks, 5 tackles and a goal in Rd 14 35-pt win over Collingwood at AAMI Stadium (29 Jun 2013)

25 disps (16 kicks 9 hballs) and 8 marks in Rd 4 38-pt win over Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium (20 Apr 2013)

25 disps (17 kicks 8 hballs), 9 marks, 5 tackles and 2 goals in Rd 3 9-pt win over Adelaide at AAMI Stadium (14 Apr 2013)

24 disps (12 kicks 12 hballs), 7 marks and a goal in Rd 1 79-pt win over Melbourne at the MCG (31 Mar 2013)

And those are just basic stats. He might not have the athletic skills of O'Meara but his hardness at the contest is second to none. See his tackles against players such as Rodan and Harry O. Yes it may be slightly over the top but he is playing as good as any first year player in the past 10 years.

Edit: Also averaging only 70% time on ground so far, well below most other rising star potentials.

Good stats but hardly dominant. Solid and very good for a first year player. Supporters build these young guys up so early, but good on them if they have the expectation that they will be a top five player in the comp in the next few years. Now he's set in stone, I wonder who the other four will be.
