That is what I reckon too. There was no point in wasting money appealing unless Brisbane thought they had a case too, which would have strengthened our position.I think we lost our chance at winning the case when Brisbane were offered the same level for Rischitelli who won their best and fairest THIS year.

So it's not for lack of heart, spine or balls.... it's the fact that the AFL have it stacked against us from the get go.
I emailed Phil Harper and asked about it. He said that they were informed that if they went to a tribunal, the two people who would decide the outcome of the tribunal were two people on the original committee for determining the compensation outcome.

Can't agree with that.
What Harper has said sounds reasonable - but we should challenge it anyway.
What a joke of a system. The club should be making that as public as they can. **** the AFL. I could take a wild guess as to who these "two people" are.
Edit: Or we could be doing our best to make it public? Did Harper ask you to keep it quiet at all?

He said that they were informed that if they went to a tribunal, the two people who would decide the outcome of the tribunal were two people on the original committee for determining the compensation outcome. I asked him if perhaps those two would be more understanding but Phil says he spoke to one of them who argued very strongly that Bock was definitely a band 3 by "their system".
Who gives a crap about that? He is a vanilla midfielder, winning a token b&f for a club having a disastrous season. Meaningless. Has nowhere NEAR the value of a key position all Australian.
I think the fact that you're an apologist for the Adelaide establishment is fine most of the time. But you can't just mindlessly agree with everything, when this is a ridiculously pathetic act of giving up, and not even putting up a fight. Just a terrible example to offer as a club.
I'm a realist. Why even attempt to fight the Dimwit and his crones? It's clear that the "system" put into place is to punish the idiot clubs not clever enough to sign their stars up before the end of the year. Have a go at Adelaide for that for god's sake, not for picking their battles. You pick the ones you have a hope of winning, not fight for the sake of it.
Got to laugh though... so many in here were saying Bock should be the one to go... getting older, body not fit blah blah blah. Wonder how many of them are now complaining about getting a crap deal in return?![]()
You're forgetting that the compensation doesn't come from the Gold Coast. They couldn't possibly care less whether Bock is judged as a 3rd round pick or 8 1st round picks, they aren't the ones giving up "market value".2 The rules are DESIGNED to screw the existing clubs. If the GC and GWS had to give market value for the uncontracted players, they would lose some of their drafting advantage. God forbid that that should happen.
