This is an extension of the best young full back thread, that some how excluded Frawley. For mine these two are the to best young full backs in the comp, both can beat their driect opponents and win the footy themselves.

Obviously i am going with Frawley, mostly becuase of my melbourne bias :p, but i believe Frawley can play small as well as tall, however pears is probably better suited to the big full forwards.

definitely pears

he looks like he'll be the next in the line of great fullbacks

langford, silvagni, scarlett, pears

doesn't look out of place to me

he is special

frawleys good too, though, but he's no pears

I really do rate Frawley, and he is close to Pears but a few things go in Pears favour.
1. Frawley doesn't have the poise of Pears at the moment. Pears is very cool under pressure and makes the right decisions most of the time.
2. Tayte was born 24/3/1990, Frawley was born 20/09/1988. Pretty scary how good Tayte is considering he turned 20 two weeks ago. In a few years you would assume he would be even better.

Frawley for mine,

Seems to be more a complete footballer than Pears

That was my biggest concern for Frawley early on, however he turned the corner last year and has stepped it up again this year. His composure and disposal has improved greatly.

He had 25 disposals at 84% efficiency yesterday, so the stats definitely agree with your argument.

I also agree, by the way, as there was a point in time when I'd be scared every time Frawley received the ball, but that isn't the case anymore, given that he's improved his disposal greatly in recent times.

Would love to know why he is more of a complete player. Tayte is 191cm and 94kgs at age 20. (Scarlett is listed at 192, 94kgs).
In terms of speed- Tayte ran a 2.92 for 20m at draft camp (Frawley 2.98 seconds)

Draft camp results mean sweet FA in my opinion.
David Spriggs was a draft camp freak.
When these 2 recorded those times they would've been at about 80 odd kgs each. They've now put on 10-15kgs. Not saying Frawley is quicker either.
I wouldn't trade Frawley for Pears & vice-versa.
Both will be very, very good. I watched Frawley yesterday & under pressure, with a fluky, swirling wind he was very calm.
Pears at times will float forward & kick goals & deliver inside 50 but I think he lacks the brute strength of Frawley who has the ability to manhandle opponents.
Either way both will be long term full backs at their respective clubs, but as a Melbourne supporter I'll go with Chip:thumbsu:

I think anyone who states its a large mrgin in either direction is biased or hasn't seen enough of either player.

I would take Pears against your taller types and Frawley against your more mobile types. Frawley is also capable of beating a small forward and has bone this numerous times.

Two great defenders and will be revered by bot of thier clubs.

Pears is an absolute gun :thumbsu:, where as Frawley is just a run of the mill defender.

My God you're a douchebag.

You should be banned from every board but Bay 13.

Anyway, the best two young KPD's for mine. Frawley has everything. He's not only one of the strongest players in our team which allows him to manhandle his opposition, but he's bloody fast too and is never beaten to a contest.

In fact, I don't think i've seen Frawley lose a 50/50 ball all year.

I can't say i've seen much of Frawley but Pears is an absolute gun. I reckon he's almost our most important player already and i reckon will take a top 3 spot in this years Best and Fairest. Pears is one of those few players who just does everything well. In the mould of Scarlet although obviously not as good at this stage of his career.

Both very very impressive. Have the abillity to play tall or small aswell as the talent to run off there men, get plenty of the ball and use it effectively.

Frawley is on his own as the best young key back in the game.

Theres nobody to compare him to, he is way too dominant and is already one of the strongest players in the league.

Will be All Australian full back for the next decade.

Pears looks like a decent prospect though.

I would pick Pears probably due to bias and seeing him play more often. I also rate Frawley very highly and think that both of these players will end up AA in the not too distant future.

Both are very good players, and are really hard to split. Pears probably has the runs on the board at this stage, but Frawley is fast becoming one of the best defenders in the league. I voted Pears, but as a Melbourne supporter am really excited about how good James Frawley is becoming. Good things ahead for both players...

I lol'ed:o You can't have Frawley on his own, Pears is slighty ahead of him IMO.
Also Pears 191cm 94kg >>Stronger>> Frawley 193cm 91kg
