Danny Cullen and Jedi Mind fuq fellating each other over their overt racism towards Fremantle Aboriginal players...WITH THE TOTAL BACKING OF BIGFOOTY MODS AND ADMIN IS NO SURPRISE AT ALL.

The rest of you should hang your head in shame in accepting this ongoing travesty.

I'm no racist but you are a miserable old geriatric. Get your facts right before you post rubbish.

I love the new Chevrons. Very Freo-y!

I'd probably still be considered new (probably for at least a few more years lol) but I've found this forum to be great. Mostly everyone's nice, I've already met a bunch of you face-to-face too. All the Freo info, and things like training reports are awesome - big kudos to the guys that supply them.

Only bad things I've noticed is the tendency for when things go off topic, they always go way too far i.e. pages & pages. & if someone's going to be a jerk, they usually go full jerk and ruin everyone else's fun. But these things are dealt with pretty well by the mods, so good work :thumbsu:

Sorry - hate the chevrons in their current format - my eyes are screaming at me - SCREAMING I SAY!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Seriously, I've started clicking on the adverts at regular intervals just to escape the glare! The high contrast pattern is burning my retinas, and that's even with my screen dimmed - can we turn down the contrast a little and not use a pure 255 RGB white, or perhaps make the chevrons smaller, or try them over a purple-white radial gradient...just a thought... 'cause seriously, I can't read the website like this.

Thanks for starting this thread guys, it has been interesting to see the views posted. I've held back posting my own as I didn't want to rehash the views I've already set out in the rules thread (see ** below if you want details).

I'd suggest this board has one of the most consistent, least exclusionary modding approaches of all of the BF boards.

This means that the board benefits greatly from welcoming almost all posters, rather than having the high handed, exclusionary oversight of many other BF team boards (see North Melbourne, Melbourne, Essendon and especially Carltank boards for a different approach). Even obvious trolls are tolerated for a few posts - if only to provide entertainment for the rest of us.

This lower aggression mod approach seems to encourage a greater range of genuine, interested outsiders coming on here when their team plays us, or when they want to contribute to our discussions. I think this is a good thing - even if I don't agree with a fair bit of what they post, or some of the more juvenile posters' posting style.

We seem to have a great deal of diversity of age, gender, viewpoints and life experiences on the board, which makes our fireside chats much more interesting than some of the more homogenous boards on BF. Less echo echo echo echo... We keep having extra people join us, and while it isn't all about numbers, growth in posters, and increase in repeat visits, it means we must be getting something right as a community. Or at least we are entertaining...

I've also been really, really pleased to see a number of Freo posters who are from overseas, or who are very new to AFL as a sport, join our board and become regular, quality posters over the last four or five years. I am continually impressed by the quality and insight of many of these newer posters - yoong , Grape Bear , Schauermann , GilG and others may not post as often as some of our "legend" members, but what they post is always a good read, and rarely if ever insults or demeans other posters personally. Some of our other posters (including me) could learn from these folks.

It has also been good to see many of the more frequent posters "mellow" a bit, and become more tolerant and engaging - Silent Alarm , afl08 and others know who I am talking about.:p :D :p

It was also great to meet so many of you over the last few years, and to hear some of you on the podcasts.

My only request is I'd like the rules thread to be replaced with a simple, short guide for newbies, so none of our "special visitors" (trolls) or new posters can say they had any trouble working out what the basics were before they posted here. Also can we keep it to ten rules or less?

Once they have been set (with perhaps some consultation or input process from the board before they are set in stone??), I would suggest that anyone who wants to change an aspect of the board rules should set out:
  • why they think there is a problem,
  • what the change is going to fix; and
  • how the change will work.
I don't think people should just demand new mods or a new board approach, without actually saying how the "revolution" will sustainably fix whatever the supposed problem is said to be.

Finally, I think it would be nice if people could occasionally acknowledge the significant amounts of work that go into being a mod on here, especially when there are weekends where we get lots of stick from certain teams fans. It is a fairly heavy workload on any board, the Freo board doesn't have many people to share the workload, and with the extent of pressure of real life as well it is a pretty thankless task, especially when people inundate them with PMs, and abuse them in threads.

Have a purple tick everyone, I love youse all (mostly).

Have a big white thumb, good sir.

Two reports from posts made in this thread and none for the above travesty

And lol on the password George.

Anyway carry on

I'm surprised that he wasn't nailed for the absolute shocker in the Freo Flame Thread.

I know it's a Flame Thread but suggesting that someone is a brain damaged cretin......wow

Irrespective I've moved on from whatever the issue was back then

On topic, well, I've got no complaints at all. Things are handled quite well and of course it helps that there isn't controversial topics about chevrons or anything like that :thumbsu:

Agree on this. Hardly ever post on other boards because of this.

Thanks for the great post, and yes we will be having a new rules thread that will give a nice concise overview of what we expect on this board. We will also run it by the posters to possibly tweak then legitimise it, but it will be running more or less in step with the current BF rules with a couple of local stipulations.

Not sure of the background, it's OK I guess, but I kind of liked the plain - easier on the eyes, but the chevrons are more interesting and 'Freo'.

If I had to vote I'd probably not take them though, they're a bit annoying and also draw attention to my screen in my shared office when I'm trying to sneak a little read 'n post in. :D Best to go with the more covert purple if we have a choice.

As for suggestions etc. in general. I've given it some thought and I can't come up with much at the moment that hasn't already been said.
BeinPurplenGreen has covered it well for mine.

EDIT: Just went over to the Port board. Why don't we make our background like that, textured image that looks like a playing shirt etc., but obviously a Dockers shirt. Much easier on the eyes, but would still have the effect of being more overtly Freo than the plain purple.

When watching footy, I kind of prefer it when the umps put the whistle away, let the 50/50 ones go but come down hard on the obvious offenders.

I don't post in many forums, so I have no basis for much comparison, but I liked the way our board is run.

Letting things go have its disadvantages definitely, subtle trolling post got left behind, shitfight happens and threads get derailed quite a bit (I see it as a positive feature of our board actually :))

Still, the free flow of discussion is great. Passionate fans will drive passionate discussion. I like to think that as a board, we can handle differing opinions, even seemingly controversial ones ;)
Everyone can have their say and won't be shut up, but we reserve the rights to call you out if we think it's bullshit :)

As a poster, I hope we can agree to disagree more often instead of resorting to shitfights. This is probably the area that needs some addressing. I don't like censorship, so I support the behind the bike rack suggestion too.

We have a few resident opposition fans, and they bring a different perspective on matters which I find valuable. I hope that the mods and posters continue to make it comfortable for them to post here. But the obvious trolls should be dealt with swiftly. I know it's a fine line, and I hope the mods can thread it well.

I find that I checked bigfooty more often than the afl or club website, and most of the time, I get more information and more promptly too! Kudos to the great effort by my fellow posters, and especially to the training reporters :thumbsu:

I enjoyed myself reading and posting here. It's a great place to hangout. :)

I like...

The training reports.
The honest craic and banter between us all.
The general respect between posters.
The refusal of the usual suspects to admit they're wrong. We laugh at them.

I don't like

The Chevrons(particularly on the board)
Risotto.
Johnnie Walker
