I can't stand posters who put up the team with players out of position and expect us to just agree with them.

I dont agree with you Coulda .Hill to a half back flank when we are lacking mids ? Please  Especially with Hills disposal into the forward half. Hill should play Mid,wing
You would have thought Mzungu ,Suban ,Sutcliffe ,Pearce would share that HBF role with a run on the wing.

Depending on the players injured I think we are still a chance
You do realise coulda that I just posted someone else's team and was purely talking about the possibility of a tall forward line.

I never said that's where they will play
Then why not put up your own team and take credit for it .
By reposting the same team you are agreeing with the posters team placements.

Fair call. I should have just talked about what talls I would like to see in the forward line. Agreed

Freo still favourites on Sportsbet at $1.70. Essendon at $2.10. I think those odds will swing around by game day.
TAB has Essendon by 39.5+ @ $11. That could be a serious earner with all of our outs. If Essendon get on top in the middle (most probable), we could go down by that much. We don't have a lot of firepower up forward to kick a score.

Hills best performance for the team was off half back flank and he creates run and delivery of the ball into the forward line .
I agree with you with Clancee on the other HBF , this gives us 2 players on the half back line that can be injected into the midfield when required .
Hill and Clancee give great service as they can play a variety of positions .
According to the West Australian we will be without Walters for this week and maybe Mayne as well .
Taberner is a good chance for a recall .
Sylvia had impact and his fitness has improved so he will come into the team as well so the midfield will improve with his inclusion.
Mzungu is more suited to the wing due to his running capacity the same for Sutcliffe .
I'm really tempted to bring Simpson into the team for his ability to work his way through traffic and spot up targets .His pace excites me as well.

Guys... you played in a Grand Final last season. Only 4 games ago.

Ross Lyon is one of the best coaches in the competition. He has his entire list structured to the finest degree. You'd obviously prefer to have your strongest possible line-up out there but from what I've seen you should be confident that any newcomers can get the job done.

You've also won 18 of your last 19 at home.

All fairly important reasons on why you should start favourites and should win. Don't understand all your doom and gloom.

It's looking like 7 of our best 22 are out for this game, including our 2 best mids. That's a pretty significant whack.

Also, the guys we are bringing in to replace them are coming back from injury themselves, and are a bit underdone.

Don't understand all your doom and gloom.

You didn't watch the game on Friday night? The last three times we went in with 2/3 of our dynamic midfield trio out (Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe) we have been smashed in the middle and gone down by 40+ points (Hawthorn, Saint Kilda, Geelong). Granted the Saints game wasn't exactly our best side, but you get the point.

I don't think we're going down by 100 or anything, but we will struggle.

We are still missing 2/3 of our best midfielders against the other giant midfield in the league, playing WAFL regular sub-180cm midfielders in their place... We can't just replace our best players with lesser able players and hope they try extra hard to bridge the gap, if that were possible it means our best are coasting along and nobody lasts in the AFL with that.

Last week was like missing Watson (Fyfe), Stanton (Barlow), Ryder (Clarke) and Hooker (Dawson).

I have been saying since the fixture came out I wanted Freo to win this game more than any other, including the GF replay, after what happened in the corresponding game last year. And now we are well below par going in.
Well use it as an opportunity boys. Despite being utterly pissed with Essendon and how they won the game last year, at least they came and played with passion. We need to show some of that and win when we are up against it. Sheridan, Crozier and Neale I'm looking at you - stand up, you're not babies any more you are third year players. Take some responsibility.

On the positive side, I am heading to Sydney next week and we should have Fyfe, Mayne and Walters all fit an playing.

Essendon would have beaten Hawthorn if the game had been reasonably adjudicated. Josh Gibson could have violated a nun in Hawthorns backline without giving away a free in that game. If we play like we did against the Hawks, we'll receive a shellacking of biblical proportions. I'd back us to not perform that poorly again though, so it should be a close affair.
Agree that Josh Gibson would go well as a Catholic Priest, but the frees evened out in that game imo.
I was yelling at the TV in the first half about our raw deal but must admit we got a few cheapies in the 2nd half... funny how the momentum shifts with the frees... or do the frees shift with momentum

Remind me next week, and I will try to convince my partner to drop by before the game.

Simmon - That is a fair way way from the SCG, anything closer?

No it's not mate it's in the same
Complex as the SCG. It's in the Moore park entertainment quarter. There are a few Bavarian beer cafés in Sydney and you may be looking up the wrong one.

I went there before the baseball and it took me approximately 2.5 minutes to stumble across to the ground ;)

Will be fascinated to watch this game.

What draws me to this game:
- 2 really good sides that will probably finish top 4
- watching how Essendon performs against a very defensively structured team (they struggled when we went defensive against them in the first half, but got a run on when we shifted to a more attackin style.
- want to see how Freo bounces back after a big loss
- want to see how another good side copes with Essendon's high possession game
- want to see if Freo are really vulnerable without the two mids, or if it was just an aberration

Also want to see Essendon lose.

It'll be tough to play possession footy on Patterson stadium seeing as it's so narrow.

:) Cheers.

Damm you google, you failed me.

If Mayne is out surely we have to play Taberner?

I think it'd be a good opportunity to see how he goes. Tabs does strike me as a more genuine forward than Clarke, and he can run. With Pav, Clarke and Tabs we'd have three tall targets, two of whom seem to do better roaming around.

Could get by with Pav and Clarke, with Crozier or De Boer filling in as a third-tall option. Mayne does play taller than his height suggests... so those blokes mightn't provide the necessary marking threat. But woud like to see what Crozier could do leading to space in the forward 50 though, rather than just crumbing and linking.
