ESSENDON
INJURIES
Tom Bellchambers (ankle) 2-3 weeks
Alex Browne (knee) season
Coutenay Dempsey (hamstring) indefinite
Lauchlan Dalgleish (Achilles) TBC
Will Hams (hip) 2-3 weeks
Nick Kommer (knee) 2-3 weeks
Patrick Ryder (ankle) test
ON THE BLOCK: Hmmmm, tough one. The Bombers had winners everywhere in their huge
win over Carlton. Sub Martin Gleeson came on and gathered 10 touches while Jason
Ashby went at 85 per cent efficiency with his 13 touches — and they were the minor
contributors.

ROUND 3 STUDS AND DUDS
ON THE CUSP: Mark Thompson forecast a continual changing of his line-up this year
as he strives to keep his team fresh in a bid to have them peaking at the right
time. Former GWS youngsters Kurt Aylett and Shaun Edwards were among the best for
Essendon’s VFL team and could get a chance this week, while small forwards Leroy
Jetta and Zac Merrett also impressed.
BEN BROAD’S FORECAST: Is Essendon the second best team in the competition? Still
far too early to get a read on exactly how good certain sides are, but the Bombers’
form looks good on paper. We’ll get a better guide this week when they travel west
to take on Fremantle, albeit weakened by injury, at Subiaco. The Bombers have a
ruthless, hungry look about them, and another win against a below-strength Dockers
outfit would only fuel the hype about Bomber’s men.

INJURIES
Jacob Ballard (hand) test
Michael Barlow (knee) 4-6 weeks
Kepler Bradley (knee) 1-2 weeks
Nat Fyfe (suspension) Round 5
Jonathon Griffin (knee) 1 week
Scott Gumbleton (hamstring) 8 weeks
Garrick Ibbotson (shoulder) TBC
Max Duffy (shoulder) 4-6 weeks
Alex Pearce (shin) 2 weeks
Tanner Smith (hamstring) 4-5 weeks
Colin Sylvia (quad) test
Matt Taberner (hip) test
Michael Walters (knee) test
ON THE BLOCK: It may be more a case of Fremantle having to plug some gaps, with a
few stars battling injuries. Jack Hannath could lose his spot for a bigger name,
while Matt de Boer, Cam Sutcliffe and Hayden Crozier’s names are often discussed.
ON THE CUSP: Zac Dawson (suspension) will return for the Bombers and stiffen the
backline while Alex Silvagni (Achilles) will be in the mix. Clancee Pearce is a big
chance to return and add some grunt, while Zac Clarke is also a possibility to
finally return from a knee injury. Colin Sylvia would also be a chance to finally
make his debut if he’s over his thigh.
BEN BROAD’S FORECAST: How much time will Ross Lyon spend on Friday night’s horror
loss to Hawthorn? Was it a case of clearly being outgunned by a better team, or the
men in purple having a Docker shocker? Perhaps a bit of both. The footy world knows
last year’s grand finalists are better than the score suggests, but how they
respond against a rival with almost equally good credentials so far in 2014 will be
fascinating. Freo hosts the high-flying Bombers this week in what shapes as a
corker. On their most-recent outing, the visitors would have to start favourites.
Bellchambers is playing VFL this week, so idk where that puts him...

I hope you guys put them back in their box. It will be interesting to see what Lyon has taken away from the Hawthorn game as I think Bomber will have his boys trying a similar style to us.

Rolled ankle or not I dont think Chappy would've made the trip to perth anyway. Chappy needs to be managed and his body needs rest to recover more than most due to age and injury history. I cant see him travelling interstate to often this year. Too important a player to thrash imo.

What's the story on Mayne's ankle .
He and Walters on crutches at the airport so I hope the witch doctors can get them right for the game .
Sylvia is right to go and he will replace Sheridan IMHO.
Clancee to replace Neale .
Taberner on standby for Mayne
Crozier should also be on standby for Walters
Dawson replaces Ibbotson

Clarke will NOT replace Hannath IMHO.
He is still building his tank and won't be back in the line up until he gets his fitness to the required level.
Simpson still has a fare way to go and won't be thrown to the wolves just yet .
Mind you Sheridan got games before most of us thought he was ready .

On exposed form I would say Essendon are the 2nd best team in the comp so far this year. They nearly had the better of the Hawks.
We don't look the same team without Fyfe and Barlow in the middle. Teams only have to stop Mundy and we lose all our dominance around the clearances. Hill tries his guts out but isn't a breakaway player from stoppages.
If as has been suggested in the changes thread we are going to be without Walters and Mayne I'd say we are in for a spanking unless Ross and the boys have a rabbit in the hat somewhere. I'd expect us to be more competitive and desperate but you can't take out 4 of our absolute best and expect no dip in performance.
At least Zac is back and Clancy will give a contest. Up forward and in the middle we will struggle big time.

Our defence will be under siege the whole game, might have to bring the radio this week to tune out all the Dawson hate.

Will need similar conditions to the GC game to even get close in this, then again Essendon have a pretty big bodied midfield themselves.

Wow.

Everyone needs to get a serious grip here.

We are the Grand Finalists.

We are the team that restricted teams to 85 points in first two rounds (and now have that same full backline available, Ibbo excluded).

Essendon played very well against Hawthorn for parts, but were smashed for a big chunk of it, and when it came down to it couldn't hold them off. And then beat (not thrashed) a terrible NM and belted a shocking Carlton.

Three rounds is no form guide.

If anyone thinks that the boys will not be breathing fire this weekend, especially off 9 days rest needs to have a re-think. Plus the addition of Zac x2 will be useful from a personnel perspective, as well as them wanting to make a statement.

Reminder: response to Geelong loss last season; response to Richmond loss last season (flogging everyone in sight from then until end of season).

Essendon is good but have done nothing to earn favouritism in a match played in Perth.

This is the biggest test of our depth for this season. Last week everyone was off. We will be at home in front of our fans and the boys will lift. In the last few years we have not had many 2 bad games in a row.

Time for the depth to stand up

It will be interesting to see what the bookies are giving if Walters and Mayne are confirmed as outs.
And North beat Port on the weekend who have been in very tidy form so they aren't easybeats.
I hope your optimism is justified :) I'm just not feeling it after seeing how dismal our mids were against Hawthorn.

Everyone still tipping us in the tips thread on main board. Haven't read around I guess :)
Nah, it's 50/50 on there from what I'm seeing

Going on this team that Spoken4 put up. If we went like this we would have a tall forward line. I wouldn't mind trying that. Leaving Clarke, Tabs, Pav all in the forward line alongside Ballas would be worth a shot

B - Johnson Dawson Duffield
HB- Spur McPharlin C Pearce
C - Mundy Mzungu Crowley
HF- DeBoer Pav Sylvia
F- Ballas Clarke Taberner
Fo- Sandi Hill D Pearce

B - Neale Sutcliffe Crozier Sheridan/Suban

.

Indeed - we should still be favourites

2 rounds ≠ form guide.

And regardless, North have great record against Port, good record at Etihad (and Port not good record there). Personally I tipped them, not all that surprised they got over the line.

The point re Essendon v North was that North were terrible that night, and yet the Bombers didn't really put them away until midway through the last quarter.

Fair enough, but I don't see it as optimism, rather just expectation of standards, regardless of last week's performance. :)

B - Neale Sutcliffe Crozier Sheridan/Suban

Suban will not be the Sub ,he will be on the ground for the first bounce and on the HFF
Sutcliffe will be on the wing
Sheridan \ Neale will make way for Sylvia
Mzungu will be on the wing not there for the centre bounce
Sylvia will start in the middle with Mundy and Crowley
there is no way RTB is going to dismantle our team .
Pav will be our FF.
Taberner will be on stand by
Clancee will start on the bench
Hill will be HBF if we have any brains .
Our midfield is being bolstered with Silvia coming into the team he won't be out on a HFF waiting his turn he will start at the coal face .
Mundy needs help in there and Sylvia has that job .

Where did you get the idea that Mundy would start on a wing and we would start the game with a B grader in the centre.

Neale had a tough game against Hawthorn and had very little impact so because of that he might remain in the team as the sub .

No offence Sam, but we're undefeated against your coach since 2009 and have beaten you over there 2 years in a row, last year where you were only missing Sandilands and McPharlin

really looking forward to this game
You guys are deserved favorites but no Fyfe, Ibbotson and Barlow? I think we stand a real good chance.
should be a good game regardless!

An awful lot of "WILL" in this post.

It is almost like you are in charge.
