As usual it takes a few days for me to feel positive about the upcoming game after a loss, but I just read an analysis of the Essendon game that (perhaps perversely) makes me feel slightly more confident.

Apparently Bomber is coaching his Bombers to play like his Geelong. Slick Handball and quick movement. We have pretty good history against that side, especially compared to everyone else.

So long as another Essendon scandal doesn't surface in the next few days to galvanise the players again to play above themselves or become dirty snipers (Ryder), I reckon our manic defence stands a good chance of holding up. Even with missing personnel.

I'll counteract that by saying that a Ross Lyon coached side has not beaten Essendon since round 8, 2009. Winning by 19 points at Etihad stadium on the way to a club record 19 straight wins before coming unstuck against said team to the tune of 2 points.

A ray of sunshine, you are not.

Morra is still 7 weeks away but when he's ready then we will have a midfield that will scare ever body in the league .
Mundy , Fyfe , Barlow ,Crowley , Morabito , Hill , Sylvia , D Pearce ,Clancee ,Suban ,Neale , Sheridan , Walters , Simpson and De-boer .
And then is the ruck Sandilands ,Clarke ,Griffin, Kepler and Hannath .

I'm scared just trying to say that sentence without stuttering.

Did I just hear M Walters highly likely to be out for the season? Jeepers a weeks a long time in football. He's a star who's great to watch, that sucks arse. Another star goes down Fremantle are cactus.

Records are made to be broken. We did it last year by beating Geelong in a qualifying final in Geelong.

Think we both have fantastic midfielders when they are fit and firing.

I actually think that both sides may counteract each other. The difference will be which forward line will fire.

SuperPav will fire, eventually. Surely!

Will Essendon's surprise packet duo have a day out that they have so promisingly been threatening to do?

Thought we need the bigger bodied midfielders like Clancee and Sylvia to help Mundy with clearances.

What some observers have been saying is Col Sylvia has been better when he has been on the ball as an insider in his Peel games.
I was hoping to see his long goal kicking at freo but this week against Essendon, considering our circumstances, he may be better value on ball rotating with Mundy and deBoer through the forward line.
Clancee would be straight up replacement for Ibbo on Half back, you would imagine.

I have several memories of Gu taking a strong mark in our forward line and duly converting. I think he has many strings in his bow.

7 weeks? Why exactly 7?
RTB stated last week that Morabito was 8 weeks away from playing in the big league .
I can only assume that he has a lot of boxes to tick before he is considered to play .
Watching him play for Peel I think he is a lot closer but RTB and the coaches know more than you and me .

Last week in the channel 7 interview, Lyon said that Mora needs another 8 weeks of match experience.

That was last week , after the marked improvement on Saturday I would be surprised if it was not sooner than that.

I reckon about 3 to 4 in an ideal world , but He could play Sunday if thing were really dire and still contribute.

That was the rumour. Facts are that he has a dislocated tendon in his ankle (whatever the heck that is) and will need scans once swelling goes down in 10 days. I'd be surprised if he misses for the whole year, even after surgery given that there are 19 weeks left.

Fyfe back next week and Barlow back soon after will mean we are only down 1 player from our Grand Final side. And unlike 2013, we actually have Sandi, Pav and McPharlin all in the team at the moment. Here's hoping that they stay fit all year.

Hannath/Kep are not scaring anyone

He kicked 4 goals last week and took plenty of marks and had a good possession count. Probably the form FF of that round.

You haven't seen them in fancy dress:

well played good sir, well played.

Another thing worth noting is that our youngsters have actually be really good. Those 'bottom 4' guys in our team that seem to come up every now and again have been serviceable for us.

Hardingham last week kicked 3, Gleeson came on as sub late in the 3rd and had 10 possessions whilst Ashby played the full 120 minutes but did not look out of place. Add in Ambrose who got us back into the game and structures us up really well and ours look marginally better than yours.

Who would be your bottom 4 ?

Right now, Fyfe , Barlow, Mayne and Walters.

Totally agree with you on Mzungu but we need his running on the wing because he goes deep into defence and attack giving support to both and I would hate to loose that assistance .
As for Col he gets a little lost up forward but is a top quality inside mid . Match reports say the same thing .
Simpson on the other hand reads the play beautifully and I don't know what his natural foot is . He could play anywhere on the ground and would be impossible to guess which way his is going to turn .He is a very good mark as well His weapons are speed , agility and evasion in traffic .
He reminds me of a young Chris Lewis in many ways only taller .

You know what, I'm normally known as the negative one around here but I actually have a really good feeling about this game.

We are a good team, they always say (including Spurr today) that we have 22 players that all have their role to play. All had stinkers last week it happens. How many times under RTB has it happened twice in a row ? RTB has the ability to change a game mid game ( ie pies last year)

This game is at home in front of the freo faithful and some of these guys that will be playing are not best 22, and will they have a point to prove !! And it's much easier to do that in front of 38000 screaming dockers fans.

Essendon come over favourites (maybe even In their own heads)

And we may, just may get some surprises. Ross left everything open tonight, Morra, Simpson, Silvia who knows. We may uncover some secrets.

I can't wait to see what happens. This is what we pay RTB for

Go freo !!!
