Dont know if "complete" is the right word to be using. Small town Geelong. Big city Melbourne. A LOT of stories.
 
Geelong have won 2 out of their 8 finals since the 2011 premiership...could easily be 2 out of 10 in a couple of weeks as well. No doubt they were dominant from '07-'11 but they haven't been a realistic premiership threat since, despite their home and away record.
 
have to admire that record.
have had great teams in the past, but as of recent last 3-4 years, they probably have the biggest adv out of any of the 18 clubs regarding where they play. having KP will always make sure they play finals, and playing enough games at MCG, ES to know how to play those grounds either.

We were within a 5 points of another grand final in 2013 and given our record against GWS and then bulldogs, if we drew either side in last years prelim we probably make another one.

Why would we be claiming that they don't count? We don't claim that yours don't count, why would Sydney be any different?

We were a genuine threat in 2013 and 2016.

It's just re-writing history after the fact to suggest we weren't.

I would think that any team finishing within the top 3 after the H&A season is a genuine flag threat, unless there's a supremely dominant H&A team that's finishing on top with 19+ wins. Geelong have ended the H&A season in the top 3 in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017, and in two of those seasons (2014, 2016, 2017) only percentage stopped them from being the minor premier, and in the other (2013) they were one game behind the minor premier.

You can say that they might not have appeared as strong or dominant as they did between 2007-2011, but in the context of each given year, they were/are very much genuine flag threats going into finals in each of those top 3 years I mentioned.

The only years since 2007-2011 where they've looked genuinely behind the top teams were 2012 (finished 6th, out in the first week of the finals) and 2015 (finished 10th).

This. It's always easy to say in hindsight 'oh so and so didn't win so they weren't a threat' but reality is, barring the scenario you mentioned where a team just super dominant, if you make the top 4 you are probably at least a chance, and in a given year probably 3 of those teams can be considered a genuine threat.

The swans record in finals is not that crash hot since 2005 to be honest, given they are widely lauded as greatest club in the land that is not Hawthorn. 1 premiership poor return, and very unlikely this year with a trip to Adelaide in the offing.

I think there is an argument to mount that the team that can both have a parade and ruin the other person'a parade is the better team.

And the timing is important here. In Geelong's dominant time we took a flag from them.

That I don't have a problem with - that comes under the 'so what was the quality of the opposition like?' argument.

But to black and white say 'they won a head to head battle' so they have to be better is ridiculous because, without even looking at anything else, it can punish a team for making a grand final:

Ie. 2 teams win 3 flags.
One of them beats the other, and wins 2 more, but makes no more grand finals.
The other loses to team 1, but wins three others.
They're basically being punished because they were good enough to make a GF which they lost to a good side, where the other side weren't good enough to qualify for an extra one.

(I know the way I've written this is hard to follow but in my head I know what I'm trying to say)
 
I might be wrong but are Geelong rated similarly to non-Vic teams because they play 8 games a year at Kardinia Park where they always win?

When we are strong we are basically expected to go 11-0 at home, win the away derby if Freo are shit and then splitting our away games 50/50 is good enough for a top 4 spot. Do people look at Geelong the same way?
