Just noticed that the top 3 in our B&F are all Geelong born and bred lads.

Gaz, Jimmeh and Fanta.

Some great talent in our own backyard, and drafting the local boys is a smart move IMO. If you live in Geelong, you probably barrack for Geelong, and dream of playing for the Cats. Most of the Geelong raised players would probably be more likely to stay at the club for a bit less money.

Its smart recruiting IMO.

It is smart recruiting.

But don't be sucked into thinking only local boys should be recruited. Over our whole history, we've only had 2 Vic boys wish to be traded home; Gehrig (who gave us the pick that got Kerr) and Judd.

Very true indeed! In fact, there are nine players who were recruited from Interstate clubs on Geelong's list (not including rookies) and funnily enough, it's the same number of players who were drafted from the Geelong region.

In the West Australian it said Ablett polled 513 votes, 178 clear of Jimmy Bartel. Is this true because I watched a large number of their games and wouldn't have thought the margin could be that big.

4. Darren Milburn (474)

5. Matthew Scarlett (473)

6. Joel Corey (468)

7. Cameron Mooney (424)

8. Brad Ottens (418)

9. Steve Johnson (369)

10. Corey Enright (330)

Best First Year Player- Joel Selwood
Leading Goalkicker- Cameron Mooney
Best Clubman- Matthew Egan
Caches Award- Corey Enright
Community Champion- Tom Lonergan

Thats pretty amazing, doesn't that mean that cameron ling has been top 5 for the past 5 years?

Pretty under-rated player by everyone outside geelong....

And even Scarlett (5th) is from Geelong. Also Egan who came 11th.
Then looking outside the club, Coleman Medallist J Brown is from the area, and Hodge who was unlucky to miss All Australian

Don't think Egan is a local. Sure, he was playing for our VFL side, but he's originally from somewhere in Melbourne [Oak Park?].
Agree with the sentiments of the post, though.
