Ridiculous. Guthrie and Menegola were fine (and historically I haven't been Sam's biggest fan). It was a scrappy game with high pressure disposals but apart from Guthrie's turnover in the 3rd they used it pretty well and worked really hard. Menegola was really important helping the defence and Guthrie had game high tackles (9) and 4 clearances. They weren't great but they were solid.

Did Guthrie win one clearance? He has been outstanding this season breaking away from the middle. Tonight I saw him just play a very defensive, reactive game. There was none of the flair we've seem this year at all.

40 is generous in 2020, but apart from Tom Hawkins who are the scoreboard threats in the team? Atkins? Rohan? Thouey? At this rate we should get Shannon Byrnes out of retirement.

Before tonight, our leading goalkickers for the season after Hawkins were Rohan (19), Miers (16), Menegola (13), Duncan (12) and Danger (11). Of those, only Rohan is averaging more than a goal a game.

Thing is, he doesn't fly for marks and can score goals. How often tonight did we have multiple players fly for the mark, and 3 Port players get the ground ball and **** off with it.

That is the right team, only question mark is throwing in Clarke after leaving him out for so much of the H&A. For some reason this team, with all the players playing in the positions where they play the best, is completely untenable for the coaching staff.

I actually dislike the disposal efficiency stats as "dumb" footballers who dished off the ball to another guy in relative trouble are rewarded just the same as if they had dished the ball off to someone in a good position.

Good point. They should count it as 'efficient' only if the recipient also gets rid of it. If they don't, well that's not efficient disposal then is it?

Didn’t watch the game because I knew what would happen. See the score after the siren, and it’s the least surprising thing I have ever seen. Until Geelong recognise that the game style is completely unsuited to finals and many of the selected players unsuited to their current role, we remain an AFL joke. Soft as butter.

They have more football talent in their outfit than we do.

We had many sub-par players tonight– not the coaches doing.

Yet we had our chances to carry the day.

At the ground Miers and Dahlhaus nowhere near it And seemed soft and easily pushed off the ball. I’d drop both of em, we looked old and slow. Forward setup is crap they can’t convert. We need to face the fact that the list and clashing are not quite good enough. So why not go for it next week and bring in Close (should never have been out), Clarke and I am begging for them to bring in SDK. Close into his usual role, Clarke to a wing, Blitz into the backline perminantly, and SDK to full forward. FFS do something different it is not going to win it as it is.

Dahlhaus had some good moments but we brought him into the side as this tackling machine, could apply great pressure around the contest and he didn't lay 1 tackle tonight (stat wise that is). In saying that I think he needs to stay and Close in for Miers, if we're going to have a small forward that gets so little of the ball as Miers did tonight then at least get one that can tackle, close is normally good for at least 1 run down tackle a game.
