It was insufficient force surely. What i don't like is BT and the commentary crew hanging out a 19 year old kid to dry for falling over when he clearly was hit in the head.
Insufficient maybe, but let's be honest, if that was cotchin on the ground and Miers with the high hit, he'd be in the book.

I agree, the commentary on the whole thing was putrid.

Yep. Finals are won in small moments. That was moronic. This finals series will be defined by dropping Stanley, and Hawkins dropping Schofield
No it won't. It will be defined by who wins the GF, probably Richmond, they are the better team. We did not lose to Collingwood because of Stanley not being there and did not lose to Richmond because of Hawkins. Blaming individuals for team losses is easier than accepting the fact that we are not quite good enough, and the Tigers are the team to beat.

He’s a tease, has been all year, has been since he played a blinder v the Saints early last season.

Doesn’t do enough as a small forward, seemingly not rated enough to be a full time mid, and as we saw tonight has zero composure under pressure.

If we keep him, and we probably will then 2020 is the make or break year
He is a good player with a lot of potential, but you're right, he is still teasing. Needs to work harder for four full quarters, work on his deficiencies and master his abilities, much better.

Chris Scott is a fraud! the sooner the club distance itself from his useless coaching disease the better.

Fresh outlook and fresh ideals is what we need.

Btw anyone else hear the rumour that Fremantle have approached Chris Scott? I heard it on the train on the way home and got all excited but than again could be some made up s**t.

Was mentioned on radio yesterday. We can only hope.

I thought Blitz would be on Lynch, but I'm guessing that in the absence of Duncan and Clark Scott wanted extra drive from the mid-field. I thought Blicavs should have been sent back there though. Scott's thinking seemed to be that if supply is cut off and we play our own game it won't matter, in hindsight I would suggest wrong, but we didn't lose because of Lynch, he was on the receiving end, it was their half-backs and mid-field that got their game going.

I agree with this. They wanted outside run on a wing, and with Clark and Duncan out, who who were the options? Parsons? Imagine the howls if he'd been selected. Scooter and Constable aren't going to give you outside run.

There were too many defenders and they were probably too loyal to Henry, who had been good but was surplus to requirements.

But who could they trust? Rohan, who'd been quiet for weeks and missed one from 20m out? Parsons in a big game?

Outside run should be a priority for recruitment at this draft.

Bad luck cats. I feel that was the last big role of the dice and our window is shut. Got lucky to keep our window open so long. Got lucky that the best player in the comp wanted to move back to the surf coast. Got lucky that one of the best players in the comp went unnoticed and signed to us for 2 years. Got lucky that the father /son rule allowed us to get Selwood and Hawkins in the same draft. Well, to quote Metallica “our luck’s run out”. We’ll have no Ablett, Harry or Kelly next year. Might make the 8, but windows closed. The boys did well tonight and Myers is my new favourite.
The AFL changed the rule after that, interesting it was Melbourne who objected the most, the same Melbourne who first proposed the father/son rule in the early 50s to enable them to snag Ron Barassi. Geelong have always been the team used to make rule changes, after 2008 the AFL worried that other 'good' teams might cop the tactic of relentless deliberate rushed behinds that would enable a less talented side to win and reduce the spectacle, hence the change the following year.(said with a bitter, twisted sneer😠)

The last half wasn’t our best. It was disgracefull watching on the replay. Seriously the skill level wasn’t at a level of a premiership team. Turnovers, players drifting out of the game, shocking decision. It’s one we will regret like the Sydney final.

We didn’t play above ourselves in the first half we played well. Waking up it was such a missed opportunity. Still not convinced they are some universal force like some of the teams we previously tangled with

A lot of positive things came out of the season (more than many thought) but the dark cloud of the Danger/Selwood/Hawkins cliff is almost on us (if not already) and deep down we know that will be the curtain call on the era

The biggest stat that stands out is marks inside 50. 18-7 and Blicavs not down back. That’s a coaching decision. Terrible. Best defence conceded 85 and no Blicavs. Not a good coaching performance and media performance from Scott. Wasted 11-1!!

The Tigers mates I was with couldn’t even believe either that Blicavs wasn’t moved on to Lynch. Scott has now become a caricature of himself with that non move.

We know that in the first half of the season we played hard running team football. Players looked happy and excited to be playing that way. Come the dreaded bye and it all changes, slow, no team, not excitement as if it had all been left on the Gold Coast.
That is the question for a Review. And have no doubt Brian Cook will do another one. As usual, and this includes 2006, he will never tell us what it revealed, make no changes and wing it in 2020.
So what did change, was it that Scott became the dominant decision maker in the Coaches box- I seem to remember that he wasn't around much over the pre-season- and as we see time and time again his stubborness lets us down.
Yes we scrambled our way back to the top of the ladder, but that was due in part to other teams win/loss rather than our brilliance.
Second half of the season we were lethargic, boring, and unskilled on many, many occasions . Some said due to heavy training, but if that was true then it didn't work as we were out of puff last nigh. We had no run, so many times players were on their own. In particular the occasion in the last 1/4 when a passage of good play had the ball going forward and Kelly running onto it. The ball bounced the wrong way and the only players there to take it were Richmond. It looked like we had lot the plot.
Poor fitness, poor skills, poor decision making is back to coaching. And that all became apparent in the second half of the year.
Why?????/

I kind of think if the cats maintained their best for 4 quarters, they would have won regardless of how the tigers played. However, it seemed physically impossible for the cats to maintain their best in the second half for some reason. The west coast game may have taken a big toll.
And people need to remember the tigers played 10 games at the g
So minimal travel miles

Pretty shattered but I told myself I would be happy if the boys put in a solid effort and didn't gift Richmond a 5-0 headstart. Well we did bring our game, I thought the intent was there the whole night. Richmond were just brilliant in the 2nd half, the knock it forward at any cost looks like they fluke it but they do it over and over again and it works. If I didn't hate them so much then they would be a pleasure to watch, it's not boring football at all. I don't want to gloss over some pretty questionable coaching decisions but I really think some of those goals would have occurred regardless of who was defending because the ball come in so quickly.

There was a blog or post somewhere at the halfway mark of the season that showed that Geelong had kicked well above average (in front of goal), we were an outlier and the writer was pointing out that it seemed to inflate our start to the season and we would have to regress back to the mean in the 2nd half (statistically). I think they were right, I seem to recall us winning several games in the first half from accurate kicking when we were dominated for large chunks of the game by the opposition. My point is that I don't think the minor premiership was a true reflection of where we were at.

Third man up rule... just when we were dominating with it. 🤬

Dude, Miers was solid. 22 touches, + 2.1. He was the pick of the bunch from last year's draft, and probably our best talent under 22yo on our list.

How about Guthrie, Parfitt, Narkle, Dahlhaus, Henderson, Atkins and Bews tonight?!? No where near Gryan's energy and output tonight.

Even SavRat as flashy as he looks, didn't hit the scoreboard as a Key Forward, so its a Fail from him too.

CatRiot, I understand my post relating to Miers wasn't a popular one at all - and yes he got enough of the ball and hit the scoreboard - but I can't back away from the fact that there were maybe half a dozen times (not just one or two) when he failed to get his body behind and head over the ball - was he the only one? Probably not, but I noticed on a few occasions that Gryan needed to 'go' and was very reluctant/incapable.

I didn't mind the games from the others you mentioned btw - Guthrie faded pretty badly, Henderson was very much short of a gallop, the rest were fine imo ..

But Harris Andrews plays for the Lions! Blicavs was in the squad but did not make the final team, he is not an AA, yet. We did play a dual AA defender on Lynch, his name is Harry Taylor. However I agree that Blicavs should have been on Lynch, but the reason we lost was what happened in the third quarter when they put the burners on, we were not quite good enough. Kudos to Richmond they will be hard to beat.

He was AA FB last year

The way the ball was coming in (with the 6/6/6 starting positions) from the centre, Rance/SOS/Scarlett couldn’t have stopped him marking. He’s a taller than most ruckman, has ridiculous reach, is highly mobile and is one of the best young players in the league.

We’ll never know will we? But after the first 2-3 were kicked on Harry, a change had to be made. It wasn’t.

It has to be said that the cockiness of our coach has pervaded the players. Look at Dangerfield - all yap to Dusty before half time and then goes unsighted in the second half. Absolutely embarrassing and I genuinely hope they don’t give him the captaincy after Selwood retires.
I think danger was pretty cocky in adelaide
