Beaten by a better team tonight.
Another Dynasty I have witnessed in my 45 years watching the game.

If "dynasty" is defined as a team that wins multiple premierships then almost everyone has seen loads of dynasties. The media acts like they're uncommon for some unknown reason. They're not. Pretty much every decade for the last 50 years has had *multiple* "dynasty" teams.

Champion team will always beat a team of champions.

They buy in and believe, it's that simple

"Hard work will beat talent if talent doesn't work hard."

They mightn't have the same calibre of players as we do, but they do work hard for each other and it shows. That's what makes them so hard to beat. Their system is impossible to break down for four quarters as they have total buy in from everyone on the park from the opening bounce to the final siren.

I don't think its a matter of finding a lot of them, when you have one or two weak links in the backline and incorrect balance, it gets exposed very quickly. We have one or two weak links that get covered when we are doing well but are horrid causing the whole line to break down.

You still haven’t offered a solution. Who would you have played on Martin?

You're usually up with things...are you not aware of Parfitt's injury early in the first quarter..and then the same injury at the end of the first quarter...he played through a lot of pain....
Fully aware of the injury, also aware he was ineffectual in every final.
If the club comes out in the next handful of days and says he's off for surgery for an undisclosed injury he's carried all year I will temper the criticism but going from a guy who was showing small glimpses in seasons 2 and 3 of gradual improvement to a guy who was average for most of the season is deserving of critique.

People on here get on Blicavs, Kolo, Bews, Duncan, Danger, Guthrie, Menegola, Rohan for being crap in finals and not handling the pressure. He was worst on the ground last year's PF, had a dirty finals series this season, and showed little signs of being able to take up the slack that Danger and Joel are soon to leave. But those guys above at least perform to a high level at some point during the season.

I don't get all gooey over his pressure and tackling ability, pressure, and tackling is for guys who don't have the football.
When he strings 3, 4, 5 games in a row 20-30 touches and shows his class. THEN and only then will I start to praise him.

And much like past champion sides (Our golden era side is a classic case) They know when the going gets tough that they're always a chance, you know why? Because they've done it before. In their minds there's nothing and no one to tell them they can't do it again.

Do we have a player who can curtail him for the whole game though?

Just put someone on him, ruffle his feathers, get physical. He has to be stopped if you want to win, it ain’t rocket science. Why didn’t Danger take it upon himself to go head to head with him? Put himself in the midfield, he wants a flag so bad? Try take dusty out of the game.

Disagree with the half time break comment. Tigers turned the game in red time in the 2nd. Gained momentum before the break.
They did which makes it all the more unforgivable to start Dangerfield in the forward line in the second half, it was stop Richmond in the tracks here or it's over.

Did really well to make the GF, and pushed them more than they have experienced in their other wins. We are no longer a great team, and great teams win them anywhere, as Tigers have shown. I can not believe how emphatic Martin is as a player. His possessions are not huge, but they all count. Easily the best player in the comp. Scarily, Tigers should be able to 3-peat, if not 4-play. One of those years like 89, 92, 94, 95 that we got to a GF against a real power team.

I hope Harry calls it a day. Blicavs perma FB next year
I would like to keep Sav; let him start to play as a ruck> forward, and if we get Cameron, we have a potent forward line with Danger there.
Could see Hawk and Selwood calling it a day after 2021-22

So similar to the 2011 gf as a pies supporter. Looking OK at half time, warning signs in the 3rd before being overwhelmed in the 4th by a side also winning 3 flags in a short time.
There's no consolation right now but your players gave it a real shake against an all time great side.
Chin up cats fans.

There is a degree of misconception that equalisation makes it harder for there to be dominant teams.
In reality the last 30 years has been a cycle of 1 or 2 teams being dominant for around the 5 year mark followed by some form of fall.

I've been in isolation for 3 months on my own. Only good thing i had was Geelong. I'm so disappointing... My heat is broken. I was hopping for a win. I know everyone is hurting... I'm sure everyone is too tonight. I just need to get my disappointed of my chest. .. was hoping for a win. I know everyone is hurting. In these thought times. I just won't to say hold your head up people. I love my cats.... Just hurts.... They bring me so much joy... It hurts now. So much.....

Hi Robshow, I'm sorry to hear of your immense hurt.
Until this year I had seen my saints about 600 times, and have never experienced even one premiership. Like you in lockdown I have not been able to attend this year. It has been a terrible year with family heartache.
Keep your chin up mate. I truly hope that you can find some peace and contentment as I have, outside of footy. Take care and best wishes for 2021.

Kolo did alright on Gray and De Goey earlier in the finals as well. Martin is just a class or two above those guys.

I might be in that old age group now, aside from a couple of screams of exasperation at the turnover kick by Kolo and Selwood's awful handball after winning the free after a centre bounce, the end result had that inevitability factor about it. Richmond's speed, ability to pick up the loose bobbling ball as it pinballed around the packs and then having Dusty was decisive.

Martin is someone who is a freak of a sportsman. I get the feeling that unlike some, he simply has no thought of failure in his mind at all. Like absolutely no inhibition, no fear of failure, and no concern for consequences. I think they were saying he had 17.2 at half time, well by game's end he's kicked 20.2 in finals in the last four years or something. 20.2!!!! And many of his goals are snaps from awkward spots and fast gathers, not Joe the Gooses or anything.

He's also been BOG in 8 of the Tiger's 10 Finals wins since 2017. It's a trait that just puts him in almost unrivalled air. I dislike his tatts and perhaps just how he looks like somewhat of a thug, but as a footballer he is a machine. Never gets injured, lifts when he's needed. Arguably he may be the greatest finals player who has ever drawn breath on this basis. Three Norms in three Flags. He is the cream which rises to the top and compliments the absolute chaos speedball the tigers play. Aesthetically it's just not what i like footy to be, it's nothing like what Geelong's glorious high-scoring skillful smashings we would do from '07-11, but there's almost been nothing to come near this footy since 2017. One Mason Cox cameo, and a drought braking loss to the Lions are the only losses from the 12 finals since 2017.

Geelong when it comes to the crunch just hasn't got the motor to match these fleet footed Tigers when the pinball flies out with the likes of Bolton, Costanza, Rioli, Pickett etc are scouting the packs. And we sadly would either fumble or just over-run or miss the footy when going for it in the packs, then a pinball bounce will see the Tigers swarm forward. Congratulations to Gaz Jr and Harry, Geelong champions for their years of service. But we need to introduce more pace in the side, there's really no other way the Tigers can be tamed unless their own self-satisfaction starts to lessen their intensity.

But i cannot be upset at the season. Finished second, beaten by a side which the record books will say is one of the all-time most successful in how they play....and really aside from that Mason Cox 1st half in the 2018 PF, they could have 4 flags in a row. And nobody really has worked out how to beat what they do in finals footy. And having a bloke who has essentially accumulated enough votes to win a post-season Brownlow in the last 4 years and kicks 20.2 in finals, well that's pretty much it. Too good the Tigers are, sad to say.

Do we have a player who can curtail him for the whole game though?

Kolo should of gone to Riewoldt. Beat him in the PF last year and Hendo had his worst game for the year on Riewoldt in rd 17.

Kolo is a straight line player and lacks the agility to go with Martin. Henry, Tuohy or even Bews were far better options IMO.

I think your right though, we don't really have the ideal match up for Dusty.

I think Richmond's brand and Martin's footy IQ would completely play into their hands. It would mean Dangerfield is doing more negating the whole game long opposed to doing more damage and playing offensively.
If you watched Martin closely, he's constantly moving around and never stops moving at stoppages. He is probably stronger in the upper body that Dangerfield so it's not like Danger can overpower him either.

Just an outright beast of a footballer. Absolute privilege to have watched Franklin and Ablett and now Martin in quick succession.

Expect Danger to miss the first 2 or 3 games next year for the Vlaustin hit, ive heard they are already pushing for it to go straight to the tribunal. Double motion, didnt look good.

Im not really sure whats up with Danger lately, has not looked happy once in about 6 weeks, always has that really intense unhappy look on his face these days much like Scotty.
The Vlaustin hit was fine. Careless.

People slamming Dangerfield are clueless. It was blindingly obvious what was going to happen at the start of the third quarter yet he was in there for 1-2 centre bounces then back to full forward. Where the ball wasn't. All quarter. So how do you expect him to get the ball when he's been sent as far away from it as possible?

As for Richmond being untouchable football gods, bullshit. They are pretty good, but nowhere near the level of the Lions, Cats or Hawks dynasties. Nowhere near. You people just don't want to face the awkward truth that Geelong had an absolutely golden opportunity to win a flag and threw it away. 1-2 more goals from that period of domination and the whole game would have been different at half time. But the killer instinct just isn't there with this group and Richmond know it.

That was more a failure of Geelong than a triumph of Richmond. I doubt we will get another chance that good for quite a while, especially if we keep recruiting aged cast offs.
