I've been defending Rohan but he was terrible tonight. One thing that happened near the end kind of summed it up. Stanley pushed the ball to the boundary line, Martin swooped and picked it up, Dangerfield sprung at Martin like he had been fired from a cannon, Martin just shook him off and swung round and kicked an incredible goal.

Like last years PF, went into hiding after HT, does it way to often in Finals.
He was putrid against Lions btw, game against the pies he turned it on. Paddy seems to be a semi final specialist.

I noticed in the second half they had a player goal side of a contest so if we spuded it they were free.
I can paraphrase - "Yeh ah look the guys are disappointed - but you know this group achieved a lot this year - I'm very proud of the boys - Richmond took their chances and we didn't" "I don't like to comment too much on the game straight after - but yer we will have a look over the coming week and I think there are some things we can improve on"

Narkle out of contract would seem most at risk & may depend on what happens with others. Can't see either of the other 2 being traded, especially while under contract
Clark needs a big summer in the gym, or will he be another Mackie & just not able to put on any muscle
I THINK the reason Stewart got so much of the ball was because Richmond play their 'extra' near the contest which left Stewart without an opponent. It helps them spread and find players free who then bomb the shit on the ball while they flood forward and hope the ball hits the deck and play kick the ball forward.

Read in the Herald-Sun a trade scenario where Freo give us pick 10 for Clark and a 2nd round draft pick. As good as Clark could be, I would almost grab that with both hands as it would give us 4 first round draft picks plus a chance to snare Jeremy Cameron. Hell, we could still bundle up a couple of first round draft picks to trade to GWS for Cameron, and still have a couple left over to use ourselves.
Sounds juicy for Clark, but tbh, if we get rid of Cocky for peanuts, and get rid of Clark, we have pretty much removed our best line-breakers in our next gen.
Yeah, I tend not to read the comments on there. Not much insight into anything.

I reckon your Cats did as best you could, against a now dynasty team. Dusty was the X factor, one helluva player, very tough competitor, Had it not been for my Pies two yrs ago, theyd have now 4 flags on the trot, so just an awesome unit. But, nothing lasts forever, the have older players coming to the end, age waits for no one, even them.
I had a bad feeling towards end of the 2nd quarter

That was a heartbreaking loss. I have never felt so deflated, anxious and full of gloom while holding a 15 point lead at halftime. I’m clearly not alone with my intuition, which leads me to recognise that there’s a precursor - that exists perhaps consciously or subconsciously - to this sense of impending doom.
For me it’s simple - our fatal flaw being our defence. For over five years it’s been too tall. I don’t understand the merit in it. We could downsize our backline very easily. Simply two of Taylor/Kolo/Henderson/Henry had to be dropped. And they could rotate depending on the opposition. And Blicavs should move solely as a defender as he is superb in one-on-ones. And Clark should have been elevated at the start of the finals to give us the much needed run and carry.
The issue with it being too tall is while we are controlling a game it works fine. We can move the ball around and it doesn’t get shown up. But what’s the upside of it? I’m not sure there is any. What’s the downside? Well, losing preliminary finals and grand finals. Port did it to us, also. While this game mirrored the 2019 preliminary final it also mirrored our first final against Port. We dominated the first half of play, didn’t take our chances and then... crumbled under pressure. What all these games had in common were once halftime came, these teams could reset, reevaluate and come out with a hunger. And this hunger fuels their relentless pressure. Then... we crumble. We cannot move the ball fast enough. Thus, we invite more pressure and all of these factors compound our dilemma.
I’m not saying our tall defence is 100% to blame for the loss but it’s such a glaring issue that if it doesn’t change, I simply don’t see us beating Richmond. There’s also an irony of when we have one or two tall defenders down we play some of our best and most attractive football.
Moving on from that... another issue was Tuohy’s role. He roamed but didn’t impact. He’s not clever enough with his movement or skills to play that loose role. He has to be in defence or playing as a tagging forward.
Dangerfield had to play in the midfield in the third. Everyone knew Richmond were coming hard, so their fire had to be snuffed at the contest. Could’ve made it an arm wrestle but instead let them flow and link up. I again don’t understand why Dangerfield gets stationed in one spot for such long durations. In fact I see quick and frequent interchanges between attack and midfield time as a real benefit strategically and to our needs at crucial times of the game.
And then there’s Dusty. Kolodjashnij isn’t the answer. He lacks agility and lateral movement. I would’ve liked to have seen Henry tasked with a pure lockdown role on him. Henry is good in one on ones and absolutely terrible when the ball is free; akin to Blicavs. Again, which touts back to me qualms over our defensive structure. We must select the players we need to shutdown. Choose our best 1v1 players and then build some creative defenders around them.
And finally, Rohan. I believe that’s his last game with us. I see Cameron stepping into his role and Higgins taking over Ablett’s. For those bemoaning Higgins because of age, we could’ve done with a dose of his class and composure around the contest. Also, perhaps another retiree could be Tuohy who may be struggling to go around again and Isaac Smith (if we get him), I believe would be much better suited in his loose role. Higher football IQ, breaks the lines and also has a thumping kick.
We will be around the mark again. We will have a much more potent forward line next year with Cameron coming over and Dangerfield learning the craft during the pre-season. But if we don’t fix our fatal flaw and build to beat Richmond, rather than building to be a top four side, we are in for much more pain.

Too little to late I suppose, danger > mid last qtr only?, started to kick out from goal up the guts, way too late (last qtr). Is tuohy anything but a defender?, miers frightened by contact, dahlhaus is generally in the way, as was simpson tonight ( hope he's ok), henry...i just can't visualise he'll meet the progress required, but he's ok , harry is retiring right? I see improvement in Hendo, but you know, rohan is ok, but if Jeremy Cameron comes in, he has to go to the wing. We need 2 fulltime ruckman and base a gameplan from that, blicavs and hawkins, doesn't always work, and themdoing that and then trying to do their main job is too taxing for them.

I'm only a so-so judge over the years; but I reckon we should be giving a good batch of kids as much exposure as is practicable.
Were we close to a Premiership this year?
Richmond have now well and truly proved that they currently have our measure.
Will this same squad plus Jeremy Cameron bridge that gap? I say doubtful.
Brandan Parfitt, Jack Henry and maybe Sam Simpson are on their way to taking ownership of this team.
Personally I would be looking to sign Ratugolea away on a long-term deal; try to sell him on long-term security over big $$ - he may never get above Josh Walker level; he may be our next Doug Wade. He is one who has troubled Richmond.
I'm a big fan; I can see his deficiencies for sure, and this year he would go missing for weeks on end before finally giving a yelp - but I'd still be happy to make the gamble with him.
I think Fogarty has a really nice balance to his game; we have only seen glimpses of his best, he can struggle to get involved. There were maybe 2 games in which he did step it up this year, and once you saw it all come together for him it became obvious what Wells saw in him in the first place - like Parfitt he has that nice mix of offensive and defensive game.
If we can keep Narkle injury free then I would like to see him get more opportunities; he has skill, he can clear the ball in congestion and he can finish.
We will probably need to give Sam De Koning opportunities next season.
Jordan Clark; I dunno, I may well be fickle because I was very impressed with him last season, particularly later in the year when he largely played on a wing and hit the scoreboard here and there while most of the rest of the team was slumping badly. However, as I've said, he just looked noticeably frail this season; he had lost puppy fat but it doesn't seem to have worked in his favour. Lots calling for his inclusion in the back 6, I far preferred him as a wingman - I'd be open to trading him tbh.
