Geelong - Too old, too slow?

Building your entire club around a player that has needed 1200 free kicks in his career to be functional is a horrendous model. Perfect to dodge scrutiny when a bought and paid for media cannot talk objectively about umpiring.

Last night was the perfect example of why non disparage clauses with the media are way over the top. There was error after error by the umpires though any criticism the commentators are entitled to air is limited to an occasional ‘bit stiff there’/‘bit lucky there’. Imagine the newspapers today make no mention of it too. Beggars belief.

They had Melbourne done and put their cue in the rack, started preparing for first final. They’ll win the flag
Very interesting tactics last night, put the cue in the rack from the starting bounce preparing for next week.

It’s not Geelong who are old and slow. It’s Chris Scott.

Geelong are old and slow. Chris Scott just happens to be the one who thought it best to keep them that way.

Winning the 2011 flag has had a long-term backfire effect. Chris Scott won a flag with a team of champions he inherited. Because he won that flag though, the Geelong board figured he's an outstanding coach and have given him free reign to dictate all facets of the club including list management. Because coaches generally don't like to drop back down the ladder for a rebuild, he's just kept pumping the list with top-ups, keeping them good enough to make finals for 10 years, but never good enough to win a flag.

Geelong fans are screaming about Scott now, but the reality is, he's still a favorite to re-sign with Geelong. Selwood and Dangerfield are still desperate to clench just that one more flag before they hang up the boots, and to start rebuilding now would be to flush their hopes down the toilet.

Geelong are finished. It's only going to get harder from here onward, and they're already miles off the top teams.

The cats are further away from flag than any team their effort to buy a flag is a failure their to flags in 2000's we won through the draft. They will need to bottom out and another flag tilt is 5 to 7 years away.

Geelong have too many list cloggers. Brownless, Jenkins, Z.Guthrie, Okalunba , etc etc Number of very quick and skilful young players in VFL who could step up but can’t get a game because they have to play these old list cloggers.

The old man theory didn’t work pussies time to have a garage sale and start again

11 players over 30yo and being spanked by 80pts in a preliminary final.

Reset is needed for this list and hard calls to be made.

Mitch Wallis, Liam Shiels, Goldstein. Make it happen Scotty.
