I may be wrong, but this doesn't sound like Charlie will be back, even as a rookie:

“We have had open dialogue with Charlie over the past two years in regards to him looking for greater opportunity at another club,” Geelong’s general manager of football Simon Lloyd said.

“We believe Charlie is a good player, but we have a number of players that play a similar role. We are hoping that allowing Charlie to become a free agent may help him find a new club. We would like to thank Charlie for his significant contribution on and off the field. He has been a strong leader, he is a quality person and has been an exceptional clubman over time at Geelong.”

I thought the same.

Yep its something we would have to cope with. Its not such a problem in the first couple of years when they are putting in extra time to build up their bodies. Its why so many clubs went to the "pinch another clubs development" model..
It is a nice problem to have- three developing rucks. Neale looked good to me in the VFL when playing as a forward. If Conway looks promising and is available, grab him and it increases our chances of getting a good young ruckman for the future. Who knows whether any talls will be gettable by us next year.

If they were looking to rookie list him, I could understand them mentioning about making him a DFA to explore his options but would have thought they'd also mention the possibility of him retaining him if no other team came forward

It felt a very final statement in terms of his time as a listed player for Geelong

I agree with that. So to get 27 (703 points) we'd probably have to give up something like 30 + 50 (902), or 32 + 34 (1126).

Roughly..id be trying for example say 27 and 55 for 32 and 34 as 55 will end up mid to late 40s after bids anyway..you could do a similar type of deal for 23 if we wanted that.

Unfortunately, I think he'll be a bit of a bolter and go in the 10-20 range.

I dont think taylor will go that early i think theres a clear top 15 or so and he isnt in it imo (his size will drop him down more than it should) but from 15 onwards its wide open so him chesser knevitt wilmot sinn brown etc are all players who we could get with our 4 R2s or might be off the board before 22.

I respectfully disagree. Clubs want well-rounded MIDs these days, i.e. there's no use being tall if you can't mark, there's no use being outside if you can't kick, etc. I'd want us to pick the most complete MIDs. That's why I'm so keen on Taylor with his inside/outside mix and elite kick.

That’s true of the kids that you get in the top 10. Where we are picking from you’ve got to accept they won’t be complete. Yet, at least.

Is Blake Schlensog available as a delisted free agent or does he have to go through the draft? If he is are we a chance to take him and Stengle as DFAs?

He's available as a DFA but I think our preference would be to rookie him so that we have more options with our senior list. There are a few mature KPD options, so I don't think it will be all that competitive to sign these guys.

If I was him...why would I come back. t did not help Brownless. Id say we have made our opinion on him loud and clear...time fro him to try another jumper. Id try interstate.

Ross Lyon being asked to come to the club as coaching director or strategy coach. Has a close relationship with Scott and Hocking. Reported in the herald sun

You've gotta be f*cking kidding me...

This piece of sh*t shouldn't be anywhere near our club - let alone the detrimental influence he'd have on our gamestyle to make it even more defensive than it already is.

F*cks sake.

What's the perceived value of these roles when you have a Senior Coach with 11 years experience? is it to free up time for Scott to spend more time with players?

I agree

But would there be any AFL club actually interested in his services?

The only club I can recall being linked to him at any stage was St Kilda, and that was mid-year during his second year on the list, and that seemed to go cold by the trade period

So Lyon in a Neil Balme role to help out scott

as long as it has nothing to do with tactics or coaching it wouldn’t be such a bad thing

I thought that was Simon Lloyds job, so are they just adding more middle management to the detriment of the actual coaching group? Like, how about a full time ruck coach, or some seriously good development coaches... no, let's add more management, and Lyon at that? No thanks.

Balmy is the sort of bloke that brings a group together. Works with players when there are issues. Hard to see Ross Lyon in that sort of role. He seems more my way or the highway.

Id go to a state leauge like WAFL... it seems a better chance to rebuild his rep...take Shlensog as an example. or Menegola.

Ross Lyon to have on a coaching panel would be phenomenal, he has a great footy brain and has coached sides to premierships regardless of game style he wouldn't necessarily need to impart that side of things to the game plan but knowledge would be immense.

Are you thinking of a different Ross Lyon or something?
